Saw on some woo woo channel how most people say, first let me get money, then I’ll be…(fill in blank). But actually the universe works in reverse where first you (become the thing you want) and then money will follow. How to break in to Hollywood guaranteed? Some execs say they can NEVER ignore anyone who figures out how to make money without Hollywood. Creative people create stuff, just like you do with your RUclips videos. Be creative about creating. Shoot smaller stuff with the people and resources you do have. Count those blessings! Keep on keeping on. Peace. ✌🏽

First! I agree with what you said about the Kendrick video, good but not groundbreaking. And the overanalyzers, my goodness, annoying! I feel you on being someplace you enjoy but the money just isn't there. I hope it turns around for you but I commend you sticking to it. Keep pushing, bro!
It's always easy to give other people advice on what they should be doing with their money! You have to do what makes sense for you. That said... You could try a compromise where you use some crowd funding, ask a film school for help, get friends and students to play bit roles, and shoot the film guerilla-style. You might be able to get it on a streaming service. This would lower your risk because you keep your day job... Yep, it's easy for me to say this! GOOD LUCK!

Bruh what? I dunno, I'm coming from the UK and am not part of any union - I think they're daft. I get an annual pay review with roughly a 5% payrise and a bonus every year - even if I perform badly?
Jay you know I love you, my guy, but this also falls into the trap that a lot of filmmakers fall into. They don’t make films because $$$ and then when they do, it almost always sucks because they haven’t had any practice honing their cinematic voice. So if you don’t have any money, don’t spend any. You have a camera and editing equipment. Start writing something for your apartment. You want people to volunteer for your film, go volunteer for theirs - first. Favor budgeting is straight up Quid Pro Quo. There’s only exploitation if you’re unwilling to recompense. I shot a WEDDING for my lead actress from my last movie. Why? Quid Pro Quo. Write something for yourself or for an actor you know looking for good material for their reel. Cook meals for cast n crew in your apartment. Don’t spend money. Spend time. Spend effort. Spend favors. Stop thinking like gatekeepers. If you *can’t* think like that, then tell people, “I’m not indie” and stop worrying about it. Tons of people go the other way and learn by getting their scripts produced and being on set. You don’t have to be indie. Some people literally prefer the system. It’s not a crime. Everyone watches films made by the system.
