Are these tips still applicable for the 2021 exam? Why has Notefull changed their strategy and kind of moved away from templates in their recent videos? I'm confused.

    • @NoteFullTOEFLMastery
      @NoteFullTOEFLMastery  2 года назад +2

Hello Avanika. First, yes, these are absolutely still valid. Please study them with confidence. And second, we moved away from focus on templates because now everyone knows them :)
When we started our channel and NoteFull, templates were a powerful new way to answer the TOEFL speaking. It helped many students. Now, they are everywhere and everyone teaches them. As a result, the challenge students face is how to explain in a way that will improve their score. Now that many have mastered templates: they need help with content, clarity, and delivery.
      Does that make sense?
So templates are still 100% helpful... and we focus on what to do after you've mastered templates.

    Yes, these videos are helpful even in 2019, and I scored 112 (26 R, 30L, 29S, 27W) with only 2 days of prep (Btw, I'm a non-native English speaker).
I just gave my exam on 27th October 2019 in India, and all these tips really helped me.
Watch all these videos meticulously and apply them in the exam. Use the time before speaking in making templates on your rough sheet.
Thank you very much, Joseph. It's all because of you.

Oh man, let me tell you. I'm taking my TOEFL exam next Saturday. I have been studying very hard during the last three months with a private teacher and off course by myself. Although my English is good, I was in a big trouble figuring out how to put forward all my ideas in only 60 seconds. I saw your videos about the speaking part and in 2 days I have learnt from you more than I have learnt from my teacher in 2 months and a half. So, I really want to thank you for all your advices.

@euna1231 That's a good question. You're right. If you go through the video, you should notice that the phrases do exactly that. Relating the reading to the lecture is an important part of doing well on this question, so make sure to use the phrases in the video or something like them to do just that. Good luck with your studies and let me know if you have any other questions.

@evocan Hi there. Cambridge is a good supplement to your studies, but unfortunately, the speaking and writing sections of the exam are not exactly as described in these books. To the best of our knowledge, you will not find a question (4) passage that doesn't include a definition. The task will always be to explain or describe the concepts in the passage (definition) using the professor's example. Best of luck!

Hello, Thanks for posting. We recommend that you write down the title word-for-word. You will have to paraphrase (summarize) the reading since it includes about 100 words. However, for this and other questions like it, be careful when you paraphrase; this can sometimes lead to mistakes! I hope this helps.

@mudithead Sorry for the delay. I hope you did well on the exam. For all other students: where we say, "he/she explains that . . ." we should go into detail about the example. It's the point where we'd relay the specific information we heard in the lecture.

Hello Serdar, thanks for posting. In easier passages, you may find the definition in one sentence. The strategy is to quickly skim the passage to locate the point at which the title appears for the first time. The definition is almost always in that sentence, directly before it, or after it. However, we have encountered more difficult passages where this is not the case. In that case, it's spread out over 2 or more sentences.

@jijjuthomas1 Great question! It seems to me that, even though the professor discusses that those 2 fruits are not berries, it doesn't actually mean he's refuting the article. It could be showing us some examples based on the definition provided in the reading. However whenever you make a contrasting sentence. It would say: "However, the professor provides an example of ___ to refute this."

@xkhuongdox Hi there. If this is the case, we would recommend following the same method and responding in the same way. "The article is about ________ which the passage defines as ________ and _______. The professor provides 2 examples of _________ to illustrate this." Then you would state what the examples are. So, it may seem a bit different, but the task is still the same: connecting the examples in the lecture to the definition in the passage. I hope that helps!

I have question about the definition that we need to give during our response. In fact I've got really hard time while trying to write down main points from the given text in 45 seconds. Here is my question: While taking notes should I focus on only ONE SENTENCE definition in text and use paraphrased version of this ONE SENTENCE while giving response? Or should I give other details of text( 2-3 general callsifications/kinds of defined subject) as well? 'cause 2nd choice seems like impos. for me

Thank you :). It was helpful. I have a question. Will there always be a title provided in the reading passage (because i have seen some passages without title for this question) and will the professor always agree to the passage and always provide a single example in the listening, that will fit in your phrase?

Hi joseph, I came across a question in which the reading describes the characteristics of a berry. The professor then talks about the strawberry and the mulberry describing how they do not qualify as a berry. So the example is actually apposing what the passage defined. What to do in such cases??

What if the question is about a specific detail from the lecture ? should I speak about the topic and the definition of it then start speaking about the specific detail or example ? or should I just speak about the example itself rather than speaking about the whole subject ?
