This is not a total turn off for me, but I always side-eye "clean" beauty. There's no legal definition for it, and the term mostly means that they don't use as many preservatives. I won't buy expensive "clean" products because they tend to go off really quickly.
In fact because some clean beauty products claim to avoid some effective and perhaps safer preservatives, they actually use higher concentration for weaker ones. The tradeoff doesn't worth it
A lot of brands also use "clean" to mean natural and promote it as being better for the skin, but sometimes natural ingredients are the ones that people are more likely to have allergic reactions to. For example, I can't use argan, avocado, or aloe vera, and I have to be careful about using rosemary, but they're all natural ingredients that are pretty commonly used in beauty products (to be fair, they can all have skincare benefits if you don't react to them). I can, however, use a bucketload of tea tree oil and be fine, even though it's a fairly common irritant for a lot of other people, and it is also a natural ingredient.
Makeup and skincare red flag for me: Clean Beauty. A lot of misinformation, fear mongering, marketing tactics for a definition that has no legal terms, regulations etc.
@sindy Yes! Some brands make their customers call or email to get lists of ingredients or allergens/irritants in their products. Or they can mention an active ingredient but not mention the actual amount/percentage in the product. Very common practice.
Fun fact: Tangee was the first “magical color changing lipstick” that there was and that was literally in the 40’s or 50’s! pH changing things are definitely not new. Lol 🚩
Tangees colour changing lipstick was actually invented in the 1920s! There are ads from as early as 1923 talking about it the colour changing effect. 100 years later and companies are still trying to make it cool and new, and Tangee's original is still being manufactured if you search for it online.
I've found that since branching out into Asian beauty, the "clean" no makeup/makeup brands with high price tags are red flags for me now because that look can easily be recreated with k- or j-beauty. So brands like Glossier, Tower28, or any lip focused brand I know I can get better, cheaper products off Yesstyle. Edit: same with skincare. No reason to shop on sephora for skincare, especially since some brands like Laneige and Dr Jart are far cheaper on yesstyle
K-beauty is the BEST. Jolse and Yesstyle's tagline should be spend the same amount on a box of goodies that work amazingly well as you would for one cleanser off Sephora.
@@TypicalTorres yup, it depends on your makeup preferences. Cannot go wrong with Rom&and lip products. Klavuu make the most beautiful single shiny shadows. The Saem's golden lights highlighter within their powder blushes is the prettiest naturally glowing highlight I've ever used. Cosrx and Kaja are cheaper than at Ulta/ Sephora and I also really like the I'm From line and iunik for skincare.
🚩Dupes- I'm always disappointed because I actually just want the real thing. 🚩Bundles/Value sets- I end up with colors or items that I don't like. I tell myself that they're worth trying for the formula, but it rarely works out. 🚩Limited Edition/Presale- Is it FOMO or do I *REALLY* love it? Most of the time it's just FOMO, and once it passes I'm not interested anymore, or don't miss it.
Jamie, girl, I want the real thing. I have a few dupes and I’m like it’s fine. Then I go to Sephora or Ulta and test the real product and I notice it’s a better tone for me and I like the texture more. I’m just getting the real product if it’s something I’m really interested in.
I barley even pay attention to “limited addition” banners on products unless it’s a seasonal thing or the brand it known for only having one stock of limited addition products before discontinuing them. Most limited addition products stay for years and or just never go away lol
Especially the limited edition skincare type of products. Like Colorpop had a serum in their collection for Mulan. And it's like, it looks nice, but if I LOVE it I'll never be able to get it again, so why bother?
Red flag for me: not just huge palettes, but palettes with chaotic layouts (see: any of the ABH Norvina palettes, which are positively Lovecraftian). I need the colors to be presented in a sensible way; I want the color story to make sense. If there's nowhere for my eyes to rest I'll just move on.
Lovecraftian lol I love it! Not those palettes though, those are horrid. The only impressive thing about the Norvina line is how quickly it tanked ABH's prestige
The exceptions for the big palettes (for me) are the Bare Necessities or the Stone Cold Fox Palettes from Colourpop. Because if you buy one of those, you can pretty much dupe out all of the "new" releases that are neutrals. So it saves you from buying more in the future.
My biggest red flag is when a high end brand tries to justify cheap cardboard packaging at premium prices under the "environmentaly friendly" banner. There are plenty of biodegradable plastic options out there that would provide a more sophisticated finish, plus they could always make refillable components if they actually cared about waste production. ZARA is a great example of this and their beauty items are certainly inexpensive
I agree that brands should use more eco-friendly practices without significantly sacrificing user experience. I personally Ike cardboard packaging if its thick and sturdy but thats just me. Thought you might be interested to know that biodegradable plastics are better than regular plastic but still not that great. Unless in they're disposed of in their perfect environment, they can still take 100s of years to decompose. Its better than the 1000s that other plastics take but I side eye companies who rely on biodegradable plastics to give them a good image. If they're not changing anything else it just seems like greenwashing to me
Even better than biodegradable plastic (because most of it isn’t *actually* biodegradable under average landfill conditions) would be to use glass. It’s weighted and luxurious and is usually fully recyclable. Even if it gets thrown away and ends up in a landfill, it won’t leech anything like plastic will.
omg ! I just bought a limited edition collection from nyx and they used carboard packaging on most of their products, maybe to save money on a collection that wasn't going to sell?
@@denisuuhdzz616 if it was the avatar one I have the theory the IP was excessively expensive and they had to use cardboard to offset the cost 😂 I think that’s been their most expensive collection so far, nearing Sephora prices. I feel plastic would increase the costs further making it hard to profit from them without a more semi-high-end price tag
I SO appreciate your thoughts on glitter still. Microplastics are so depressing and ignored by so many people and I have always appreciated your views on glitter. 💕
my red flag is when promo pics use exclusively diffused lighting to make glitter look so dreamy. I mean, the pictures look BEAUTIFUL! But I know real life doesn't ever look like that.
Biggest red flag in makeup for me is the generic use of the word "Fragrance". I am allergic to roses and spearmint and I've noticed both are used in many makeup products, especially rose derived ingredients.
im alergic to one of those, its awful. It should be described in the ingredients along side with the other stuff. I can only buy stuff after trying it out on stores nowadays
Yeah fragrance is a BIG red flag for me, I have migraines and seizures and certain fragrances can put me in immense pain or even the hospital. I would love if they started telling you exactly what fragrances where in there. And just stop making everything scented, I remember a foundation I was interested in that was getting great reviews on RUclips, but it was heavily scented so I never ended up trying it.
The KVD bad apple campaign was insane because everyone was using the same script which just made it super obvious and then no one really did a wear test which I find super important for foundations because it might look good at first then on a few hour just crack.
The campaign was messed up I’ll admit but the foundation really is good and it does wear really well it’s one of the everyday foundations I use currently!! That and the Estée Lauder double wear foundation and the dior air flash
@@NocturnalGhostFairiee I found it didn’t last on me for more than a few hours, tried so many different applications but ended up passing it onto my sister who uses it as concealer

@@efolinsky Sol de Janeiro got bought by L’Occitane. L’Occitane is a MLM. ABH had an investor called TPG Capital, which has a decent sized investment in Rodan + Fields. RF is a MLM.
I agree with “lock in place” products, especially as those 89-hour lasting, super waterproof crazy glue level items are often loaded with PFAs and some of the worst ingredients for our skin and environment. On the other side of the scale, products advertised as “clean” or “natural” are also a red flag for me because those labels don’t mean anything and can be just as (if not more) irritating as botanicals are more complex than synthetic counterparts so “clean”/natural products are not necessarily safer, less irritating or “better”. It’s not like I never buy these products, but I don’t buy into them and I’m often buying them DESPITE those claims if that makes sense. Like I’ll read the ingredient deck and decide for myself.
I think concealers that claim to be 100% creaseless are red flags. It depends way more on your skin than the formula. Some formulas are way better than others of course but if you have a ton of creases, the product is gonna crease. Also “shade matching” technology and “universal” tones for base products. No way are they gonna work for everyone!
I gotta say, I really admire your commitment to avoiding products with glitter and I think it was your video that really got me to be conscious of not buying shit with glitter!! Across the board, anything with glitter, I try to avoid now, bc it is something that is easy to cut out for the most part, something doable. I really love that you decided to draw that line and have stuck with it bc you also have shown a lot of non-glitter options for people who might also want to cut out glitter. Yes it is a small thing, and there are other ingredients that are also bad, but cutting out something you know you can avoid is a good thing!!
Can I just say how refreshing it is to see an influencer who doesn’t TikTok? I don’t TikTok and have less than 200 followers and I am ok with that, but to see an influencer with a platform as big as yours not on TT……I tip my hat to you sweetheart! I enjoy your content so much! I definitely agree with the red flags. I got so tickled at the PH changing segment…
I can never remember which shade I dipped into when there are loads of similar shades... Which usually doesn't matter because they are basically repeat shades
I 100% agree with you-especially when it comes to lip products. They are so hard to get off! I am so over Kylie stuff. Too sticky & balls up. I am not on TikTok. Don’t want to give all of my info to a company. You are so right with them. Glad to hear you are not on it. Privacy is important. Keep your stuff to yourself.
Kylie’s makeup SUCKS!!! Thankfully I was never into the hype….her eyeshadows suck and are really patchy and ALL of her lip products are either sticky, patchy, or get really dry and crumble and cake up then end up looking gross on your mouth
THANK YOU for mentioning the color changing make up. It is so over done at this point and each time it is done its treated like some things new, shocking, and groundbreaking. It feels gimmicky at this point. They can be good products and I have a few that I like it just too much at this point.
The concern about PET glitter stood out to me because PET is what water and soft drink bottles are made of...I'm afraid of putting chunky glitter on my eyelids anyway but I don't know what I thought it was made of before
I feel true about TikTok being not so good as a source of getting in-depth beauty reviews, with a foundation maybe you could apply it and see it's finish instantly, but the update, the wear test is not so often seen in TikTok, plus the low video quality and filter makes every review so dubious.
Yes! It’s always a bummer to me when indie brands are bought out, those big parent companies are rarely cruelty-free. Also, and I may be the only one here, but I am so bored of those turquoise/brown duochromes, and they still get so hyped… 2009 called, they want their Mac Club back 😒
I would love if brands released some new duochromes, the only one I genuinely reach for are the white/lavender, and I already have a couple that I like the formula of in my collection. Just any new duochrome combo would be cool.
Indie brands are where it’s at for duochrome shadows. You might try Clionadh Cosmetics or Terra Moon. Between those two brands you can find any combo of duochrome you can dream of!
Anything with a 'click-up' mechanism or the type of 'twist-up' that clicks. I *know* it is going to break on me and at worst possible moment. Even if it does not break - I am constantly thinking 'but what if' and I do not need that kinda anxiety in my life. Not from a concealer pen.
9:39 I think that different colors of sponges is helpful when you use them for different things. Like I don’t was to use the same sponge for foundation that I also use for Creme blushes/contour
Face and eye palettes, or even just cheek duos or trios. I’ve never bought a blush/bronzer/highlighter that all work for me in one palette. Even for eyeshadow, I’ll often open multiple palettes to do my eye makeup because I love using a bunch of different things. I would never pick up one palette to do a full face 🤷♀️
I agree with all of these esp the billion colour eyeshadow palettes lol They make my anxiety sky rocket. I remember having those PH changing lip glosses back in the 80's lol
You said it so well - what we want from beauty brands is a little PASSION! I wanna see brands who are inspired, excited, and proud of their products and collections.
Hello from Spain! I've been watching you for a few years already. My friends are not really into makeup and watching your videos i feel like im chatting with a friend about it! My red flag about makeup up is full coverage, it doesn't look the best in real life and makes me feel self conscious. Loving vlogmas!🥰
Definitely agree Sivina. I’m 42 now and find lighter coverage is far less aging looking on the skin. Light coverage looks beautiful compared to high coverage foundation/ concealer
I had color changing lipsticks in the 80’s when I was a teen, and they acted like they were a new thing back then lmao 😅 the color was so gross, like a garish bright pink. I think they put less of the reactive ingredient in today’s products. They called them mood lipsticks back then.
I got rid of all my big palettes and by get rid I gave them my younger cousin and niece because I was just looking at them especially the big Morphe palettes it was the same shade of brown and a random "pop of green" and let's be real depending on the shade of green, green is pretty netural.
I agree with most of the comments here about "clean" beauty. Also, I remember a big boom when foundation and mascara companies were hitting hard with super longwear claims like 24 to 48 hours of wear...like that's not good to keep makeup on for nearly two days lol. Also, we all know it's not capable of lasting and looking flawless for that long.
My 🚩 for eyeshadow is liking the color story. I've almost bought 10 palettes before checking for dupes and realizing I am once again falling for the exact same plum and mauve shades in my fall/winter palette. I don't wear plummy mauve that much either. 😂
Regarding the big palettes, I actually think the only usable option would be a rainbow palette, I sometimes love to do colourful makeup, and i find myself reaching quite a lot for the jeffree star jawbreaker palette. One colourful palette is enough though
You are so right about subscription box brands. One of the reasons I stopped glossy box was because I felt they were being misleading when they said the box was worth £60 but £40 of that was the Steve Laurant eyeshadow pallete that you can't actually buy anywhere.
For me, I think it's a neutral pallete, with a singular blue or purple (ex: the new nars pallete or the neon colourpop ones) I have the stigma that those colorful shadows aren't going to be good lol. Also when brands (on their own websites or sephora/ulta) don't have cheek/lip (or even eye) swatches and they have the arm swatches, which are most likely fake lol and at full pigmentation and not blended out I think these are more pet peeves but figured I should share anywaysss
its best if they dont try to blend it on the arm anyway. What i do think its deceptive is when they rub a finger 2435 times in the pan before applying in the arm. Most people put eyeshadow on with a brush and we pick up smaller amounts, so it does not look like that arm swatch at all
I have dry skin and I also don't like the tacky/greasy "dewy" highlighters either. Those products tend to slip and slide all over my face until I look like a shiny mess. I like powder highlight about 89% of the time.
A 🚩 for me is the neutral palettes with a pop of color. Especially when they make the packaging the pop of color to make it seem like it’s a more colorful palette then it actually is. This was so popular not that long ago and I remember one of the first ones was the ABH Norvina which looking at photos of it there’s maybe 3 purples and bc the packaging is purple it makes it seem like it’s more purple then it really is and so many other brands did this
Great video! I am just unwinding from work and was so happy to see this new video from you! I agree totally with your first 2 “red flags”: the huge palettes (which I admit to owning quite a few) and the long lasting products like the lip products. I tried one of those years ago because my sister thought it was the best thing. I could not stand the way my lips felt and I had to get it off asap! Btw, your eye look is amazing! Subtlety dramatic. 🤗
I bought that Colourpop palette, it's gorgeous and even though I kinda feel the same about the "repeats", but omfg its so pretty. And I love winter themed things, I'm a total sucker for winter themes and especially anything relating to snowflakes or the northern lights.
enjoying your vlogmas so far Lauren. and your fragrance channel content too! also: I was very against tik tok for a long time. finally joined this year and it's actually great. lots of professionals (across all industries) have gravitated to tik tok to share information. makeup is included in this of course. and the videos can be up to 3 min long now 😊
Me thinking about that new CP palette when you talked about big palettes lol And then you show it 😂 I have the It’s a Mood and Smoke N Roses mega palettes, and otherwise I don’t like mega palettes. But that Aurora color story… yes please! I literally asked CP to do this kind of color story one day when they asked randomly what customers would like to see in their IG stories lol I actually know I don’t have most of those shades, because I don’t have many cool toned palettes, so I’m excited 💚💙💜 I’ve fallen in love with cool tones in the past year. And I do like CP blotted lips, glossy lip stains, and the velvet liquid lips… so I disagree with that one 😅
The color changing products huuuge red flag. Def on point with the hot pink observation. Also color adjusting complexion products… they will always be orange.
My red flag is not an original one. Celebrity brands. Some like Fenty and Rare Beauty have great stuff. Many suck. I don’t do anything named after a Jenner or Kardashian. I bought some KK fragrances because of the bottles were shaped like a peach and a cherry and they were horrible. I mean Brad Pitt skin care? Incidentally on the fragrance, Phlur Apricot Privee layered with Kayali Burning Cherry is amazing.
I’m not a huge fan of colourpop’s lip products but I tried the glowing lip formula on a whim and wow! I love it! Wears beautifully, super comfortable. Not long wearing but I don’t mind that. Definitely worth giving a try imo!
I agree with everything except the subscription boxes. It's given me the opportunity to try products & colors that I would have never bought on my own. My favorite part is getting to try expensive skin care products. I didn't know there was a difference between lipstick, lip oil, lip gloss, etc. I didn't know you were supposed to put primer on your eyelids. I had never heard of warm or cool tones. Learning all of that lead me to watch makeup tutorials, which lead me to research various products, which lead me to knowing what type of makeup is worth investing in. Plus, when your life is devoted to taking care of other people, it's a nice little treat just for me!
My biggest red flag when it comes to makeup is eyeshadow pallets with lots of oranges and warm tones neutrals. I don't like those colours on me and never use them unless I'm doing someone else's makeup. Also pallets bigger than 20 shades, I only have 5 pallets with 15+ pans and about 20 that are smaller than 15 pans.
With me I feel like cream highlighters are better when you’re doing a no foundation natural look. I have oily skin too but it’s useful to help it look more intentional but I hate how it sits on foundation 🥰 just come across your channel and I love it
I hear you about the pH products but I have to say that the Lipstick Queen green lippie actually serves a purpose in that the green neutralizes the neon pink result that most of those products produce. It looks very natural. I wear the LQ one and it’s nice.
My BIGGEST red 🚩 is when the palette is marketed as a colorful palette but it’s mostly browns or neutrals and 1-3 “colorful” shades. It’ll be like one random purple, green, yellow, blue shadow…I hate that!! I LOVE yellow eyeshadow and I’ve been searching for an exclusively yellow palette and it makes me just want to make my own palettes😂 if I had a makeup brand I’d probably come out with color themed palettes and make them one color specific with 8-12 shades that range from the light- dark & warm -cool tones of the color
First time watching one of your videos and really loved your insight :) I don’t see many “beauty” RUclipsrs getting into actual ingredients so this was so refreshing to watch. Keep up the good work
My new eyeshadow rule is all my pans need to fit in my Colourpop z palette. If there’s no room, i don’t need to buy anything. Red flag is me trying to convince myself otherwise.
It annoys me that "pH" makeup products claim that they adjust to your skin tone, when they really just blend into a beige colour. If a dark skinned person tries pH foundation, it's going to make them look grey or give a strange white cast.
Honestly I given away majority of my boxycharm there's only a handful I kept. There'd just too much products that I don't really care for. It's honestly just better to buy that thing you want vs getting a million unnecessary things
I saw a colourpop glowing lip stick on sale at ulta and I picked it up. it has made me want to venture into their lip glosses i personally have zero shame in admitting when I like a colourpop item I have never tried a luxury brand lip product so maybe if I venture into that side it will change how I view my CP glowing lip
For me glowing lip and blotted lip are the best CP lip products. Of course I’ve only tried the lippie sticks and the bullet lipsticks which are both adequate. Definitely wanted to try their other lip products after liking them.
Colourpop does have good lippies, I don’t know what she’s on but maybe she had a couple of bad experiences. Their So Glassy lip glosses are amazing, so is their Blotted lip and the Fresh Kiss lip lacquer. I’ve had a couple of their bullet lipsticks in the past and I liked those too, they’re just as good as the bigger brands.
I personally think that the ONE argument for beauty blender's zillion colors/patterns of their sponges is for people who want a sponge to suit their personal tastes. A favorite color, your zodiac, a pretty pattern to match your bathroom, HOWEVER other than that I personally dont see any other justifiable reason
Great video idea! I'm not into huge palettes, but that new cp one is really pretty. I won't buy bc I don't look good in blues, but I can admire it and enjoy looks I see people make with it!
Jumping off your subscription box red flag: products from their in-house brands. They can slap whatever price they want on it to bump the value over the quota.
I love those “Vaseline” highlighters, as you say. Dewy stix was my favorite until I decided it was too glittery lol. Now I use the Gucci clear face gloss. I do have dry skin though.
I can't stand the childish looking packaging that companies seem to be coming out with. I don't want any makeup themed to video games or cartoons or The Grinch or whatever. just give me something sleek, stylish and modern looking
Aging myself here, but I remember color pH lip products being around in 1998! They were bullet lipstick shaped balms that came in green, orange, & yellow, and they supposedly adjusted to your perfect pink or berry. They are nothing new or innovative.
That new big cp palette is gorgeous but it's a lot of dark mattes & I know I can dupe it! I might just build a dupe palette of it for fun. Hope you're doing well Lauren! 🤗💜✨ *omfg the ph stuff YES! 💀
The pH of the skin is 5.4 to 5.9, not the biggest range by any mean. Less than a 0.5 difference. And people are really thinking their products are going to look different than someone else’s??
I loved this video! People forget (probably because they are younger, probably the GEN Z crowd) that a lot of the products that are going "viral" or considered "must haves" or "innovative" are literally products that have been around for years but some company decided to copy it and capitalize off of that. I think a lot of this has to do with the GEN Z obsession with the 90s-early 2000s fashion coming back, so you are gonna see Black Honey being the IT product, mood changing/color changing products, body glitter, hair glitter, MFBB looks etc. At the risk of sounding patronizing/old (LOL) I just think it's super novel to them because they didn't grow up during that time or were just getting to the age to appreciate it before it went out of style.
I cannot agree more on the highlighters, I have more dry skin, but for me, it’s a textural thing. I don’t want my cheeks to be sticky! I’m not very experienced with make up, so I am slowly learning which ingredients to avoid and highlighters.
PH changing lipstick has been around FOREVER!!! I bought a green lipstick from Wet & Wild in 1995 that did this (I was in Jr high). And yes it was a HOT PINK STAIN.
YES YES YEEEESSSS!!!! I do feel you with highlighter ✨️ , my skin is also very oily , I always look for product with math finish because my skin will be glowy and shiny just in 1-2 hours. Don't understand all the hype with glass skin with it😅😅
speaking of tiktok, Judy has a series on her channel trying out trending products on little red book (chinese tiktok) and I think it's a really good way of separating the hype from the actual quality of the product
Sorry for the comment spam. The ONLY color changing product I ever actually liked was part of the Bésame Sleeping Beauty Collab. It was a blue lipstick that would change to pink on the lips. Which was super cute considering the theme. Other then that, meh. Also the lipstick queen green lipstick/blush always left a green cast and I will die on that hill. I know it’s not as popular as it used to be, especially among young people, but any product from a Makeup Counter is an immediate red flag 🚩 most of the products are old as hell (and overpriced) so please do not overspend on expired makeup Maybe someone can give me a good recommendation but any eyeliner that is retractable and not a pencil is a red flag. Besides being unhygienic for makeup artists, I find they usually work worse, and break more 🚩

The ONLY colourpop lip products I’ve found that I like are the lip oils. Those are actually great in my opinion, but I’m on the hunt for other lip oils for sure!
Anything strongly scented is an immediate no from me, anything sold by an MLM, and anything without an ingredient list - I have more personal preferences when it comes to makeup, but those are some universal red flags for me (and that apply to skincare as well).
The only lip product I like by Colourpop are their actual bullet lipsticks, I have a LOT of them and they are all amazing! All the other ones I agree have NO interest in!
This is not a total turn off for me, but I always side-eye "clean" beauty. There's no legal definition for it, and the term mostly means that they don't use as many preservatives. I won't buy expensive "clean" products because they tend to go off really quickly.
Exactly! The fewer preservatives concerns me. The products can go bad faster. Not all preservatives are bad.
@@AmyBlack1206 Agreed!
I barley even pay attention to “limited addition” banners on products unless it’s a seasonal thing or the brand it known for only having one stock of limited addition products before discontinuing them. Most limited addition products stay for years and or just never go away lol
@@TenderNoodle *edition
@@caithenry8429 fr ☕
Yeaaah! Why dont they just put them in order??
@@AnnieLynn because they are trying to distract us from the fact that there are so many similar shades 😂
So many feel like they picked random colors and threw them in a palette. No.
The exceptions for the big palettes (for me) are the Bare Necessities or the Stone Cold Fox Palettes from Colourpop. Because if you buy one of those, you can pretty much dupe out all of the "new" releases that are neutrals. So it saves you from buying more in the future.
That's a really good point.
Love the CP mega palettes
My biggest red flag is when a high end brand tries to justify cheap cardboard packaging at premium prices under the "environmentaly friendly" banner. There are plenty of biodegradable plastic options out there that would provide a more sophisticated finish, plus they could always make refillable components if they actually cared about waste production. ZARA is a great example of this and their beauty items are certainly inexpensive
Especially if they add a mirror and make it more difficult to recycle
I am allergic to roses and spearmint and I've noticed both are used in many makeup products, especially rose derived ingredients.
yes! Why does fragrance need to be in skincare or foundation. It's not perfume Chanel!
I’m allergic to lavender and let me tell you…. Lol
@@ladyj.9350 not good acc to my dermatologist- why I used the ordinary- all product; no fillers
im alergic to one of those, its awful.

One of my BIG red flags: MLMs. I stopped buying Sol de Janeiro and ABH because of that.
Uhmmm those aren’t mlm’s…. I’m super anti mlm but those definitely are not

Also, Avant. “Look at this skincare that comes in a squeeze tube but we are going to say is worth €120! VALUE!” Hard pass.
For me, I think it's a neutral pallete, with a singular blue or purple (ex: the new nars pallete or the neon colourpop ones) I have the stigma that those colorful shadows aren't going to be good lol. Also when brands (on their own websites or sephora/ulta) don't have cheek/lip (or even eye) swatches and they have the arm swatches, which are most likely fake lol and at full pigmentation and not blended out
I think these are more pet peeves but figured I should share anywaysss
its best if they dont try to blend it on the arm anyway.
I agree with the HUGE eyeshadow palettes. I feel myself getting easily overwhelmed and not knowing where to start.
My mum used to buy colour changing lipsticks. That was back in the 80s, so definitely not a new thing.
A 🚩 for me is the neutral palettes with a pop of color. Especially when they make the packaging the pop of color to make it seem like it’s a more colorful palette then it actually is. This was so popular not that long ago and I remember one of the first ones was the ABH Norvina which looking at photos of it there’s maybe 3 purples and bc the packaging is purple it makes it seem like it’s more purple then it really is and so many other brands did this
Oh Coastal Scents...Such memories! Pretty sure that was my very first online makeup order splurge. The nostalgia!!!
"clean" beauty is my red flag. Sorry, team science over here
Red flag: people claiming something is a dupe when it just has the same/similar packaging.
And I love winter themed things, I'm a total sucker for winter themes and especially anything relating to snowflakes or the northern lights.
to be honest, i love big eyeshadow palettes lol. im super indecisive so i love having a ton of options to choose from
enjoying your vlogmas so far Lauren. and your fragrance channel content too!
also: I was very against tik tok for a long time. finally joined this year and it's actually great. lots of professionals (across all industries) have gravitated to tik tok to share information. makeup is included in this of course. and the videos can be up to 3 min long now 😊
I'm tired of the word VIRAL especially because it's very inauthentic. It feels as if EVERY new product is "viral"
That’s for the tip on Burning Cherry!! I just bought a bunch of the Kayalis and most of them don’t last very long!
I agree subscription boxes helped me build my collection and realize what style of makeup I like
My biggest red flag when it comes to makeup is eyeshadow pallets with lots of oranges and warm tones neutrals.
What a great video! I agree with all of them. I'd add multi use products i.e.cheek and lip stain. They end up not being good at being either
It annoys me that "pH" makeup products claim that they adjust to your skin tone, when they really just blend into a beige colour. If a dark skinned person tries pH foundation, it's going to make them look grey or give a strange white cast.
lol, I love that Ciate Dewy Stick
I actually love colourpop's lip products 😭💀 my favorites would have to be the velvet lipsticks and and the lip crayons
colourpop is already a dupe, never original stuff and it has cheap quality. It copies from other brands
The pH of the skin is 5.4 to 5.9, not the biggest range by any mean. Less than a 0.5 difference. And people are really thinking their products are going to look different than someone else’s??
Mood lipsticks have been around since the 70s I used them as a child in the 80s because they where very inexpensive
I'm always excited to see when you post. Usually it's time for me to be zzz but luckily I can enjoy this before I should slumber
Pet peeve, going from cruelty free to not without announcing (I’m looking at you, NARS, nudestix and wet n wild)

Me too!
Colourpop lip colors always tend to be orange-y no matter how mauve or plummy they look online
? I’ve not had that issue lol
I absolutely love the concept of this video!! You always have great ideas!
Palettes with more then 12 shades immediately turn me skeptical. I have a few palettes that break this rule, but they are truly an exception
What's her channel name? That sounds like a great video!

I know it’s not as popular as it used to be, especially among young people, but any product from a Makeup Counter is an immediate red flag 🚩 most of the products are old as hell (and overpriced) so please do not overspend on expired makeup
Maybe someone can give me a good recommendation but any eyeliner that is retractable and not a pencil is a red flag. Besides being unhygienic for makeup artists, I find they usually work worse, and break more 🚩
I love small palettes. I only tend to go for similar colors and under tones anyways. I love cherry, pink, glitter, cool tones personally.
Loved this video!!! Those brands only in subscription boxes, I’d always throw them in giveaway bin for family and friends. So not interested. 😂
Personally all the colourpop lux liquid lipstick work on me compared to others they’re soft an comfortable .
"subscription beauty brands" see also those brands you ONLY ever see at TJ Maxx/Marshall's
I agree about the Colourpop lip products 😅 I have one crème lux lipstick I like but the rest are underwhelming. I love Colourpop overall though
This is the first video I’ve seen from you, it showed up on my recommended. I don’t know if you’ll see this but I loved the way you described things in this video. Subscribed 🥰 glad I discovered you
The ONLY colourpop lip products I’ve found that I like are the lip oils. Those are actually great in my opinion, but I’m on the hunt for other lip oils for sure!
Kim Chi Chic has one that smells like watermelon candy. 😋
