important note: the no continue cheese strat you described also applies to getting no damage in all difficulties except HAH - just quit when you take damage and when you get back at the checkpoint it's like nothing ever happened

are there checkpoints for hell and hell in the special edition? cause im playing the base edition + vergil and my hell and hell doesnt have checkpoints
One of the first things I found out about Beowulf is when you use the dopple ganger you can charge its attacks and the clone will do judgement cuts in between
The doppelganger will do your inputs whatever they are but for Yamato, try moving far from the enemy and have Beo out but do a Yamato combo while the doppelganger is out. It'll combo the enemy.
Another note: you earn more style points the higher your style ranking is when you deal damage. So while you can kill all enemies in an encounter with Faust's Red Hot Night, if you start out with that move, your style ranking will only go to like a B and you'll earn a small amount of points. Whereas if you do a bunch of single/AOE weaker moves or taunts, get the style ranking to an S, SS or SSS and do a big attack, you'll earn a lot more points. So don't just start an encounter with a Hell on Earth. E.g. (numbers are made up) 100 damage * 1.2 B rank multiplier = 120 style points 100 damage * 1.5 S rank multiplier = 150 style points
The easiest way I find to do this (it helped me get S Ranks on 8, 10, and 18) is to flip the camera around into a corner and use the EX Taunt to instantly get to S.
This is cool. I just started playing as Vergil and I'm still getting used to him. The very first thing I learned about him is the fact that Blistering Swords in this game is the most broken it's ever been.
Right??? Right when you think they couldn’t make him any more OP, they add THAT in like a huge “fuck you” to all the demons already being wrecked by Vergil 😂
Thanks for these videos. It’s good to see the DMC community grow on RUclips. I think it helps our odds of more DMC games and maybe...MAYBE...another proper Ninja Gaiden
Not gonna lie playing dmc 5 with Vergil made feel like relearning it all over again . Within the corse of a year I got so so good with Nero and Dante , but especially Nero I’ve gotten so good with him and Vergil’s judgment cuts are the major thing I can’t fully master yet
The timing is a little tricky. But i like to use his attack animations as a cue to get a perfect judgment cut. If you get a normal JC it's fine because you can still perfect JC after a regular JC, you just need to time it so you release the button as soon as the sword is fully sheathed (you'll normally hear a "click" sound when that happens)
One more thing. Try not to engage optional fight where there’re only lesser enemies. It will lower your average points. But try hunt down big enemies like empusa queen and behemoth. And those tentacle from the ground will directly give you points too, so don’t ignore them.
i would like to see a video on how to dodge properly with Dante/Nero and Vergil. like u r in the middle of a fight and dip real quick the most effective way before gettin hit
I got the plat for this game when it first came out but going through it again with vergil trying to get s ranks reminded me of how much I hate how style is calculated and the whole style point average thing i really wish it worked how it did in dmc3 and dmc4 where style points is cumulatively added in one lump sum I can't help but get salty getting like 5000 style points in one encounter in 5 just for the average to drop by 1000 points because I chose to fight in a non mandatory encounter, its so counter intuitive to me
Human : 4000 Points Devil Hunter : 5000 Points Son of Sparda : 5500 Points Dante Must Die : 6000 Points Heaven or Hell : 1000 Points Hell and Hell : 5500 Points Legendary Dark Knight : 5500 Points
I've been scoring a ton of S's since I began playing as Vergil, just recently got to buy the dlc and my goodness he is perfected in this. I'm do happy he is playable now.
I don't know if this is a pro-tip, but it's just something I've taught myself from playing Vergil in DMC3. It is absolutely possible to fire Summon Swords while attacking and being technical about it. Vergil has a lot of attacks where you input, long animation, don't require more input, which is most of his weapons, especially Beowulf, the best attack to fire Summon Swords through is Lunar Phase and a few of Mirage Edge's attacks. It's absolutely possible to fire summon swords through yamato attacks, but you'll basically be going (beware xbox controls) YXYXYX super quickly between each other. The same can kinda be done with Nero in DT, it's just a little less effective compared to Papa Vergil.
This is a very important vedio. I routinely turn off the audio because I'm always babysitting. I can't use headphones coz i need to listen so i know when they are up. Also, i use the super costume all the time. I didn't know it reduces my points. All these explain why i always have a D rank on Date must die mode. Thanks for the vedio!
Pretty much every mission can be S ranked by just playing "stylishly" and not spamming the same move too much. Mission 10 however... U can get 6300 points in the first fight, then literally 10 seconds later u reach the second fight, fight very stylishly and will be at 4600 points... Makes no sense and i was forced to No damage this POS broken mission...
Don't know how you got the costume in dmc 3 but it'd be cool to unlock coatless variants of characters based on How many difficulties you S rank I.E. Full S 1 Difficulty you get coatless Nero, Full S 2 you get coatless Dante, and Full S 3 or 4 you get coatless Vergil or even uhhh coatless V?
I think it's worth defining what counts as a continue because it's not that straightforward. IIRC, manually loading a checkpoint, even if you haven't haven't died, counts as a "continue". This is important because some people may think that reloading a checkpoint outside of the death screen is fine. It's not, you won't get the "No Continues" modifier by the end of the mission.
I just unlocked Dante Must Die difficulty by (accidentally) defeating Urizen on SoS mission 8...I did barely well until I managed to get to lvl2 concentration just once, at which point I went into SDT and beat the shield with one beowulf super-move with enough SDT left to fill it back up with my DT, somehow managed to not get hit and keep full concentration, went back into SDT and defeated him by punching the ground very hard another 3 times I think I heard he was defeatable, but I thought the only "easy" way to do it was spending 150.000 orbs on meteorites and I was also very suprised by the game actually counting this as "you beat the game on this difficulty now"...I also wasn't aware before the fight that the beowulf move is so much stronger than the other two, I literally bought the Vergil dlc yesterday and that was my first play(lessthanhalfway)through with him. Even got an S rank despite the gorb, I feel like I cheated the whole system when I just wanted to try out something I thought would be "probably very effective"
7:30 “the higher the style points for longer” well idk if im just misinterpretating what you mean but time has nothing to do with it, its about how much damage you do to the enemy at the higher style ranks so, in short if you get a SSS rank without doing damage to the enemies, (its very possible, not too difficult, royal guard, taunts, repeatedly jumping on enemies heads etc) then unloading on the enemies, doing all the damage while the style rank is highest you can easily get 7k style points an encounter
I think he just means the longer you keep that style rank high, the better it'll be in the long run because, like you said, dealing damage at higher style rankings gives more points. So... Technically speaking, what he said doesn't contradict what you said. Though, i do think the whole "being aggressive is the most optimal" point he made is definitely up for debate. Because if you just want to brute force points, the strategies you suggested are better... But they're also riskier than just keeping up the aggression and stunning enemies by hitting them.
I was really looking forward to them changing a few things around in missions 10 and 18 with the latest versions, but that's not the case. Thanks for the awesome revision anyway :)
12:53 this also works if your going for a No Damage run on all difficulties, except HaH. You forgot to mention that Unfortunately, you cannot use Vergil to platinum DMC5SE, you must play Nero, Dante, and V’s missions to do it, even though Vergil is extremely easy to S rank missions with. Very Easy. Cool Video though.
Not hard just use yamato first same with Dante just use dsd and ebony and ivory to get used to those weapons and then try like the gauntlets and then whatever after that
the only hard missions to S rank are 10, 12, and 18 because the style meter on those missions are fucked. Those missions basically force you to either buy the 3M Taunt for Dante or for you to RG to Triple S. There's also doing a no damage run but good luck doing that for DMD. The biggest style points killer for me are the furies especially if there's only one of them because you literally can't style on those fuckers and you really have to do the taunt to even get Triple S rank.

I guess it's not as much of a "style" ranking as it is an "effectiveness" ranking...
Suits his personality
It’s funny how only missions located at the qliphoth like 8, 10, 18 etc. have the most fucked up scoring. Coincidence?
