    generally im the only one who dresses up any around here- out of everyone in the neighborhood, im the only one wearing a button down and dress slacks. what i do to feel more confident at standing out, is think to myself 'man, if someone from out of town came here, they'd think i was the top dog around here!' so i start standing straighter, and act like i really am that important person, and i start to stop caring if people stare at me or say something about my clothes. i guess you could say i pretend, and that helps me overcome being nervous and self conscious. i dont know if that will help anyone, but it certainly helps me!!

    • @JeremiahCraig
      @JeremiahCraig  5 лет назад +22

      Great story! Thanks for sharing this. I don't think that it's pretending. You're just doing what you're comfortable with and how you feel best portrays your personality. When it comes down to it, being comfortable with who you are makes the most difference. People will look to bring down people who are slightly unsure of themselves but when you have none of that and you do what you want, people will either be drawn to you because you do amazing things or leave you alone because you remind them how unhappy they are with themselves. Keep it up man. This is exactly the thing more people need to see.

Just making my day don't let no one tell you can't wear them. As black man I don't see people like myself wear them much. On our days off, we would put our boots on and drink beer at a bar. Nobody said a thing. That was in Virginia. When I lived in Arizona, I saw plenty of black cowboys wearing boots. My first western boots were Rocky work boots. I work in construction as a plumber, and from the first day I wore plaid to the work site, bit did it get me noticed quick! People told me I looked to clean, or they’d say “photo shoot is over”, but I continued to wear plaid shirts because I like them. Soon the fact that I was consistently noticed and commented about became a godsend! As I was continually sticking out, my work was being noticed too! clean, code abiding plumbing, and my passion for the trade. I started making friends at the worksites and people would accept that I wore boots and plaid and they admitted it looked good. I was born in Texas. Grew up a country boy. My dad was career military and we had to move to New York, so I still stick with my look. Cowboy boots, jeans, nice rodeo belt, nice shirt and a hat. I even wore aviators. First couple days in school, I stay more towards myself. Now we’re in mid to upstate New York. I’m the only kid that dresses like that and I got made fun of for dressing like that. I’m a teenager, I could wear a $1,000 outfit and look like a jock. But you’ll always get made fun of for something. My message to all of you is don’t let others impact you. Country, that’s our heritage right there. Don’t let other people decide what your gonna wear. I hope that no one does get bullied for being a country kid but just don’t listen to them.

    I'm a grown man; so I wear whatever I want. I see so many strange "hipster" fashion trends/fads while walking down the street that I have to wonder how anyone could ever have the cajones to make a snide remark about my boots! I live in the Chicago area (where cowboy boots are not at all popular), and have never received a negative remark about my boots- well not to my face anyway. I couldn't care less what folks think of my choice in footwear. Chances are, if someone is that distraught over what I wear on my feet, then they are probably a miserable person, and no 2-minute conversation about my boots is going to change who they are. JUST ROCK 'EM PROUD!

      You know, the other day i saw a older gentleman who came to visit Norway, and he was wearing Cowboy boots, i was nervous to ask him how/where he got them from, but i approached him anyhow eventually, First thing he said to me is something i Faintly remember, Because you know when you have those conversations that have alot said in them, and a few laughs here and there, it just goes by so fast and you try to tell it but don't seem to remember, maybe that's just me lol, anyway, He said something along the lines of liking my Boots, and they were Timberlands, but Shaped like how Cowboy boots are made, I complimented him on his choice in them, They were Black Cherry brown-ish, and overall just looked pretty badass, He then Recommended Ariat Boots, i ended up on this channel and then i passed by this little video, Saw your comment, Point is i'm 22, Not the biggest fan of my Generation (And i do apologise that most of them seem to make fun of this stuff when they themselves dress as Goth clowns with daddy issues.) i'm a big fan of Cowboys or anything related to that, and i just basically wanted to say I'm proud that people like you are still around and representing such a badass culture. hope this brightens your day and may the wind be at your back!

    Jeremiah, as you know, I am a huge fan. This is a very interesting topic. Me personally, Asian American female who has always wanted to be a cowboy (cowgirl) my entire life. Growing up as a city kid wearing western apparel was a big no-no. My aunt used to take me up to the country every weekend to get us out of the city and expose us to different way of life, which is why I feel like a cowgirl at heart. After all these years I finally purchase real boots, several real hats, and I almost feel embarrassed to trot around town wearing these items. However, after asking several individuals, they all say you should wear whatever makes you happy.

So I took a look and realized that nobody was really laughing at me for wearing cowboy boots if I wore them a lot. They might do a lot of laughing with me or at me if I do something dumb but cowboy boots aren’t part of the equation. It’s become part of who I am. Just came across this.
    Love the making fun of yourself first routine. Works every time but sometimes you have to nearly take yourself apart before they get tired. It's all about6 them being insecure and basically enviuous of you.
    I spent about 3 decades in the elementary school classroom. As a student in school I was bullied. What I realized about bullies in teaching youngsters was that all bullies are insecure. I realized this in a tragiioc situation. A bully was in full bore in my classroom (Oh yeah- better you should know I taiught art so I wasn't their regular teacher). I of course asked him to stop but he wouldn't and I did the next thing on the list. I called him out by pinpointing for all to see his insecurity. (It was obvious to me). It was tragic because I destroyed the kid. Had I taken him aside and spoke directly, it would helped him and probably saved him.
    This is way bigger than boots as you have pointed out. Keep it coming.

    My very young friend (19) asked me, what the hell was I wearing, and that he would never wear anything like that (boots). I was mostly smiling, knowing he was 10yrs younger than me. So I responded "Well yeah, when I was your age, I was wearing freakin' Converses, so I'll just cut you some slack." Now I would never wear Converses, nor any other shoes than boots (nowadays just Cowboy ones which my taste for footwear evolved from Chelsea boots). When I turned into Western boots, I needed to update my jeans collection as well to go with them (still in progress). I'd say that at the same time I grew out of Slim fit, which was the only style for jeans I'd wear for about 10 years. Now I prefer "Regular taper" (Levi's 502) or Slim bootcuts (just got my first bootcuts, Diesel Zatiny's, and I'll definitely get another pair). Looks fantastic paired with Western boots: very rock'n'roll-ish (which is my goal here), and makes Cowboy boots easier to put on. Even though no one is wearing bootcut jeans nor Cowboy boots here in Europe, I do. It's been kind of a dream for a long time now, and recently got my first pair and in a couple of weeks i'll order my second pair (building a collection here). Can't go back. Never fell in love so hard with a clothing item before!

      I bought myself caimán brown cowboy boots. I also get a lot of compliments.

    My answer is always a lot simpler. “If you don’t like them, then don’t wear them. What I wear doesn’t affect you none so don’t you worry about it.” Never had anyone know what to answer with after that.

    I've been laughed at for wearing my lid and my boots here in downtown Toronto. It doesn't bother me one bit cause I could easily make fun of what those people are wearing. I LOVE Country Music and I am a Cowboy forever!

      Nice. I don't have people near me who wear boots right now either. That's why I think this online community is so cool. Thanks for watching

    Overwhelmingly I get compliments. I live in upstate South Carolina and grew up on and now manage a cow and calf operation. In my teens I didn’t want to look like I had anything to do with cattle and wore sperries and polo. When the real world started I came back and settled down and started wearing boots for the first time in 5 years. That was six years ago. Overwhelmingly I get compliments or little kids telling their parents “look at the cowboy!” I’ve had two people say I “came out of the Wild West” and last year at a mall an emo type asked me if I had the horses in the back. Looked her dead in the eye and told her I sure did, and if she wanted to see.

    I'm 45 years old, been wearing cowboy boots since I was a toddler. I've lived in Florida, Oklahoma, and North Carolina. Never once has anyone ever said anything out of the way about my boots. In fact, I never even knew there were people that took issue with it until I saw this video.

    This is so funny for me, in Mexico wearing exotic leather boots can intimidate other people. It is seen as a symbol of power.

    • @JeremiahCraig
      @JeremiahCraig  3 года назад

      I think that's why some people get harassed for it in some places. Folks are intimidated and try to bring the bootwearer down a peg

    Thanks for the good advice for guys (and gals) who are sensitive to the remarks and mannerisms directed at them from people who are expressing their own insecurities...personally I really enjoy the looks and practical nature of cowboy boots (and I rarely care what others think of my style preferences)

    I've never been bullied and boots are not only a cowboy thing it doesn't matter where you come from it doesn't matter if you call yourself "country" or not if you like the way cowboy boots look wear them everyone has their own style be yourself

    Hi, I don’ Care either what some people think.I live in New York. So you don’t see many people wearing Cowboy Boots. The Friends I Hang Out With Wear Cowboy Boots. I just went to a Club Party in a Hall. About 6 Of us dressed in Suits Were Wearing our Dress Cowboy Boots. But out walking the Mall by me you do see people looking down at my Cowboy Boots with a Strange Look.
    I don’t care because I love the Cool look of my boots.

      Get a Stetson for bootwalking in the malls. They'll think you're actually from Texas. "Don't mess with Texas!"

    If someone says something and they are trying to call you out (especially if you’re in school this will be the ultimate shutdown) in front of the class just say, “ you know you sure do seem concerned with what’s on another mans feet, I guess if you’re into that sorta thing okay but leave me out of it”
