    Great interview. I was diagnosed Bipolar in 2011 and have just discovered "the shamanistic view of mental illness" as seen by Malidoma Some. I appreciate his perspective tremendously and have found it to be incredibly helpful in relabeling myself an "intuitive, empath, shaman, magician or healer" as opposed to a human
    -Being with a disease or malfunction as defined by western minds in the DSM 4 or 5 or what have you. Thank you Dr. Some for bringing this indigenous & ancient yet seemingly fresh perspective to the discussion on the national and international levels on our beautiful world ;)

      Michael Norton As for bi-polar, you should get tested for the MTHFR gene and also a pyroluria test. Bi-polar usually begins with one of those conditions or a combination of them. Both conditions led to nutritional deficiiencies which can be corrected by adding some inexpensive supplements, like B6, zinc, glutathione, etc. And a heavy metal detox regiment like EDTA, DMSA or Zeolite.

      +Michael Norton Dang, I just got my bipolar and depression diagnosis and also found the shamanistic view of mental illness as seen by Malidoma Some, this video actually appeared to be speaking almost directly to me at some parts. However, I'm rather disturbed by the whole thing, as the awakening (or maybe I've always been awake, just not aware) has been forced on me by family involved in Santeria voodoo where they asked me to denounce God in blood sacrifice of a chicken, cursing me as I had stopped trying to live up to their expectations even though they support me. I keep fighting it thinking Jesus was supposed to be the last sacrifice, and why do they ask to denounce God? Like, are they collecting a soul in fear that it might become empowered in the awakening, to protect themselves, or perhaps even, to protect the soul they've collected, I don't know, it's just left me extremely disturbed, very miserable, cause I feel they've oppressed me my entire life. However, I've stopped smoking pot, one of the things they wanted of me.

      @@mef1975 Never do blood sacrifice rituals. They are not the real rituals our ancestors want us to do. Shadow beings can take human form and lurk always in places where the rites have been said and blood has been spilt. They replaced many pure rituals with rituals of blood sacrifice.

    One of the greatest lessons about African spirituality teaching the modern, troubled world, in our days. I have learned a lot from this lesson and it has augmented and affirmed what I always believed about the interconnectedness of humanity as an African living in Europe.

      Once we all lived in understanding of the great mysteries but got away from them, with Europeans the first to go. I'm glad that other cultures were more successful in retaining these teachings.

    "Dogmatic secular religions..." "Christianity for instance..."
    Although there is an element of truth to this, he should be careful generalising. Genuine Christianity is highly spiritual phenomologically (see Dostoevsky), and it has been a great force for good. The first abolitionist movement was started by the Quakers and the very idea of human rights is essentially an extension of Christianity.

    • @sidneo14
      @sidneo14 3 года назад +7

      " the very idea of human right is tied to Christianity" that statement is not different than "Columbus discovered America" I understand that from a western point of view Christianity have inspired modern declaration of human right . but human or even animal right have existed long before Christianity in multiple forms and in multiple culture both in text and oral tradition. beyond human rights even the concept of personhood and rights have been extended to other species other than humans for ecological purposes in Africa long before Christianity.

      I don’t agree with this sentiment for Africans. We aren’t Christian, it was forced upon us. We were stripped of our culture, spirituality and religion and forced to adopt white mans religion. And even then, Christianity was manipulated to control and enslave and perpetuate patriarchy. This is why Africans need to stop with these interviews with white people, they aren’t African spiritual people. Our lessons are our lessons and should be discussed in African spaces. Brother Malidoma is still suffering from the effects of white indoctrination from when he was kidnapped by a Christian (or whatever denomination) monastery 🤦🏾‍♀️

    • @TheNonnigirl
      @TheNonnigirl 3 года назад +2

      Except it has yet to be practiced in this pureness. Christianity is a Dogma. Also to note current Christianity is a mad mash up of most conquered societies to convince them to surrender to their oppressor. If you control ones beliefs, you control them.

    • @MKwaalDiop
      @MKwaalDiop 2 года назад +3

      What element of it is not true? Christianity is dogmatic in that it was and is imposed upon other people, rendering their historical experience as irrelevant. There are indigenous people around the world who were harmonious with each other and nature, yet this was disregarded or ignored by people who alleged to be promoting the religion but in retrospect were merely land thefts. You speak of human rights, but what right is greater than the RIGHT to food, clothing and shelter.
      Indigenous cultures didnt have social economic problems that they are now faced with given the imposition of Christianity first, democracy and capitalism later. In the definition of human rights, there is a focus on how people are to be treated. However even this is trumped by private property rights, another way of rebranding land theft and concealing criminal behavior.
      I think you fail to realize that people didnt ASK for Christianity, so stop focusing on it being a force for good...but an imposed force for the confiscation of other peoples lands and a imposition on humanity.
