Personally, I subscribe to the theory that Breath of the Wild and Calamity Ganon is a convergence of the main three timelines. There are undeniable evidence from all three timelines as mentioned by Snake here. Some event likely happens at the end of all three timelines, and the beginning of Breath of the Wild, potentially the return of Ganondorf and the eventual construction of the Guardians which likely took place several hundred, maybe even thousands of years after every game to help the timelines reorganized themselves into one. No matter the timeline, Breath of the Wild is an inevitable event, and thus all timelines end with Breath of the Wild.

To anyone saying that the idea of a timeline was never planed.
-Zelda 2 is a sequel of Zelda 1
-ALttP was marketed to be a prequel of Zelda 2
    -LA is a sequel
-OoT tells the tale of Ganondorf who was mentioned in ALttP. The end don't happen like what was said to have happened in ALttP thus hinting at the split.
-This was imediately followed by MM, which cannot exist in the ALttP timeline thus a different one.
-An interview confirmed that WW was not in the same timeline as MM and Aonuma even say to think back to what happened at the end of OoT, which is spot on if you consider what was in the official timeline. This was in 2002, almost 9 years before Nintendo "fabricated" the timeline.
-TP is an obvious sequel to MM and Aonuma confirmed that it was not in the same timeline as WW around its release. Then again years before they "fabricated" the timeline.
-PH is explicitely a sequel of WW
-ST is explicitely a sequel of PH
SS was marketed as the first
-ALBW was said to be a sequel of the Oracles
-TFH was confirmed to be a sequel of ALBW.
-BotW was confirmed to take place after OoT and in a distant future after all other games.
OoA, OoT, FS, FSA and MC are games that were not made by Nintendo and are the only ones that can legitimatly be claimed to be "forced" into the timeline. The only retcons of the timeline so far actually are because of these games.

      Exactly
      Edit : Wait no ...
The Oracle Games, made in collab with Capcom, were written by Nintendo, look at the credits.
      TMC too.
FSA was directly made by Nintendo, with Aonuma as a director, Miyamoto even cancelled an early version of the story because it was "too complicated".

The Child Timeline has Link telling everything that happened in OOT to the Royal Family and MM(in the intro) said the Royal Familly then told those legends to the people to honor him.

For me, I always put it in the distant future of the Child Timeline.
Adult doesn't make sense due to how Wind Waker ends.
Downfall doesn't make sense due to a big theme of that timeline being Hyrule's decline and the Hylian race dies out, while BOTW has the Hylians still around and Hyrule was established as grand and prosperous before Calamity Ganon.

So i had an idea... How to fit the Fallen Timeline in properly.
It's not that Link died, rather he wasn't there.
Think of the amount of times you HAVE to go back in time for Ocarina of Time. Once, as if you know what you're doing, you do not need the Lens of Truth for the Desert Wasteland nor the Shadow Temple.
But you do have to go back in time to complete the spirit temple.
What if the time travel rule is 'every time you go back and forth, it makes a new branch.'
That actually makes it work, as only 4 sages would be awoken by Link, and he would not be present for the Imprisoning War before A Link to the Past..
It was a theory I heard a couple times and tried to fit together myself

It's a collapse of the varying timelines. A re-convergence, or(to use a term from Elder Scrolls), a Dragon Break. Or in this case a Triforce Break?
This is, of course, accepting the fact that Hyrule Warriors is Canon, would help to explain how/why it happened, too much dimensional/temporal crossing, causing the nature and fabric of time itself to collapse on itself and re-converge the three branching timelines.
If that's not it, then it's Child Timeline. Too much evidence in game supports this.

  • @Xunkun

I rather like the Reunifcation theory for BotW.
The name drop of the Twilight Ream puts it in the Child Timeline. What you said for in the Downfall timeline. The Whale Leviathan puts it after the Adult timeline's Great Sea (I once did work out a way to attach the Turtle Leviathan and the Avian Leviathan to the other two, but I didn't write it down and forgot what I came up with.

It’s very clear that BOTW is a soft reboot. It’s an amalgamation of all three. Theory’s say that all three timelines just all combined into one. But it can’t fit at all after one individual timeline because it’s clear there are things that are referenced from all three timelines. But it’s obviously because of the reasons you just stated, before they didn’t have a main story they were trying to follow. They were just kind of making different stuff, and they obviously want to change that and they tried to change that with the old timeline that they came out with that obviously doesn’t make any sense, and it’s hard to hold up to. So some of the games in the old timeline that were super important to the story obviously or more so connected like skyward sword, being that that was the original link, Zelda and demise. But the developers even said that the past events are pretty much just legend at this point, putting breath of the wild super far to the future so that the past wouldn’t really matter as much.
They said that clearly because they want to go away from it as much as possible for new comers but also referencing things like skyward sword because it’s an important beginning to the Zelda franchise.

Wind Waker's prologue essentially confirmed that there was a split after Ocarina of Time. That was known long before Nintendo came out with the official timeline.
The thing that no one theorized, and for good reason, is the existence of a THIRD timeline after Ocarina, in which Link dies to Ganon. That's also the part of the timeline that makes the least sense.

my theory is that the creation of the timelines was like this: first downfall, then adult and then child.because downfall might be the real outcome of oot and because of multiverse, another universe was created where link didnt die.and because zelda is zelda, she created the child timeline after that by sending link back.thats at least my best guess on how the timeline makes sence.why didnt we get games from other multiverse-branches? because nintendo doesnt fucking care xD

This is true, Zelda 2 was critically praised and sold like hot-cakes upon release.

Every Zelda game developed by Nintendo were given a place in the timeline long before the official timeline was a thing.
-Zelda 2 is a sequel of Zelda 1
-ALttP was refered to as a prequel of Zelda 1 during the marketing of the game
-LA is explicitely a direct sequel of ALttP
-OoT is a prequel telling the tale of the origin of the Ganon featured in ALttP and as such is a prequel. It not ending with Ganon's victory is the first hint of an alternate reality.
-MM is explicitely a direct sequel of OoT and as such exist in a reality where Link won against Ganon and was sent back in time unlike all the games that came before it.
-WW was said to exist in a separate reality from MM by the devs in an interview back in 2002. This is the first official acknowledgment of the timeline split.
-TP is in a world with a hero and Ganondorf was beaten before OoT could happen, so it is a MM sequel.
-PH is explicitely a WW sequel
-ST is explicitely a PH sequel
-SS was marketed as the first Zelda chronologicaly and the official timeline was released at the same time.
-ALbW was said to be before Zelda 1 upon release.
-TFH was said to be a ALbW sequel upon release.
-BotW was stated to be at least after OoT and in the far future, after any game.
OoA, OoS, MC, FS, FSA are the only one that probably didn't have a set place in the timeline due to them being games made by a third party studio and not Nintendo directly. They are the only one that can be said to have been "forced" into a timeline and the incoherence of the rest of the timeline usually comes from these five like the recent retcon of the oracles' placement shows.

  • @Raycloud

I think trying to unite these games in a timeline was always very misguided. Essentially almost all the games are just remakes of the first telling the same sort of story with different details. It's a legend being passed down orally, I suppose.

Ehh. Some of these games are connected in some way. Majora, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess reference Ocarina so their stories are an aftermath of Ocarina. The games before Ocarina had a solid place in the timeline to.

According to the game, Majora's Mask was made by an Ancient Tribe that used it in dubious ceremonies before sealing it after witnessing how evil it was and the disasters he could cause. This Tribe then disappeared from History.
Later, the Happy Mask Salesman somehow got his hands on it ... While knowing its backstory.

lots of points to be adressed here. however: how about not All zora evolve into Rito?

      @The4thSnake  6 лет назад +1

      Remain where, though?

    • @RikThunder33
      @RikThunder33 6 лет назад +1

well. for instance: there were actually two types of Zora to beginwith. the original Zora we met in the first Legend of Zelda which were hostile towards link and the Zora we first came to learn about in ocarina of time. since these agressive Zora appear in this "downfall-timeline" only, I think they might be the result of some messy evolution. or mutation. meanwhile, therer was another branch of Zora in the ocean as could be seen in the Oracle games. they looked like the first Zora from Ocarina of time. so, in a similar sense, in breath of the wild, or prior to that, some zora might have decided to seek out the heigts and gradually developed Orni features while others dwelled in the ocean. what surprised me was that the ocean zora apparently came back. that, plus the fact that you can find large clumps of salt everywhere in hyrule which does suggest there beign an ocean for a long time, leads me to believe hyrule was deflooded again here. that only raises more questions. I do believe the developers tried to combine all the timelines into one in this one, which should not be physically possible...but perhaps they used the triforce to "unify the land from all the times" or something. i can see that happening, conciderng I've used that kind of complicated dimension magic in one of my storylines...but I digress :D
so. where you ask? In the Ocean hyrule :D

    • @liliumgalaxy
      @liliumgalaxy 6 лет назад +2

Rik Thunder well, if you think about it races (I say most) do not devolve. Plus BotW is at least 10,000 years before the last reincarnation of Gannon. Think about this 2,000 years ago the Egyptians where building pyramids, 10,000 years ago Neanderthals where hunting mammoths. So there is a looooooot of wiggle room. There was probably some war that split them up.

    • @RikThunder33

    • @liliumgalaxy
      @liliumgalaxy 6 лет назад +1

Rik Thunder I mean, no matter how “unrealistic” Zelda is you have put logic into this large of a gap. Now I don’t believe in the downfall I think all the evidence provided for it is a lesser importance than the amount of Skyward, OoT, and TP evidence. And there are logical reasons why it could of eventually unify (if they released Hyrule Warriors as official canon) Plus , the current humans are from Africa and migrated north . To adapt to their habitat such as people with fairer skin are from Europe dealing with the cold, while darker completions absorb heat better. Same with Zora/Rito with water and wings

Interesting tidbit: you "could" include the BS Zelda games in the Downfall Timeline, but that would also mean another split, as the BS Zelda Webpage suggests:
BS Inishie no Sekiban (Ancient Stone Tablets) occurs concurrently with Link's Awakening as Link is not available to save Hyrule from Ganon's newest threat. Zelda summons a Hero of Light (your avatar from the BS-X Bios) to assemble the Eight Ancient Stone Tablets to seal Ganon back into the netherworld he crawled out of.
    Then comes their split:
In Timeline A, Link arrives earlier than expected to the events of the original game, leading to the Game & Watch title, the Comics, and the animated series.
In Timeline B, Link never arrived, but your Avatar does, kicking off the events of the original BS Legend of Zelda
And Timeline C is shown in the video where Link arrives just in time

Is it confirmed that his body is in his grave? Maybe Zelda just had one made to honour him after his disappeared. Also, his spirit returning to Hyrule doesn't necessarily mean he returned in his lifetime. My reading of his regret about not being able to pass on his techniques was due to him never returning to Hyrule, and possibly dying young. If he did make it back, I don't see why he couldn't pass it on.

Hyrule Warrior exist within its own Universe but also have a Timeline that goes like this :
      FPTRR - SS - OOT* - M'sM - TP - L'sCT - HW (main Timeline)
      *- TWW - PH - ST - RTBTOL
      *- ALTTP - L'sA - ALBW - LOZ - AOL
(The missing Games : TMC, FS, FSA, Oracles and TFH, we have no proof of them being part of HW world (even if Vaati would be great, saddly it's not).
We have the SS - OOT - TP from the Story mode.
Also, apparently the Tingle Games and Link's Crossbow Training are Canon to that Timeline as there are weapons inspired by them (I would place FPTRR before SS and RTBTOL after ST).
TWW stuff was said to be from another world, so there are Timelines within the HW universe.
So, it's basically an Alternate sequel to Twilight Princess.

why tho? xD hyrule warriors neither did a thing to unify anything, nor is it counted by nintendo in the official timeline(even tho its pretty much at the end of the childtimeline, but thats another matter entirely)

Finally! Nintendo Has Been Very Vague And The Only Hints We Have Are In Game But Even Those Are vague, Aonouma Said That It's After Ocarina Of Time But Didn't Say What Timeline Only That It Is In The Recent Era Which Leads Me To Believe That It's In The Fallen Hero Timeline Since That Is The Current Timeline Recent Games Like A Link Between Worlds And Triforce Heroes Are Set In. Thank You For Giving Us This

1 this is the link that lost to gannon in oot.
2 notice strangely doom 2017 and breath of the wild both start out in some form of resererction

There's nothing to suggest it's the same Link.

Ocarina of time was like the future trunks saga of dbz there are 3 time lines the adult time line which branches off into twilight , the child time line which branches of into wind waker and the the 3rd time line where gannon won which is why this game kinda has a mad max feel to it . Hence the whole him waking up 100 years later ,
The doom game also has the guy waking up on a slab so both link and the doom guy got messed up .

Then so does the presence of the Rito from the Adult Timeline.

    • @mushroomfusion245
      @mushroomfusion245 7 лет назад +1

Well it just can't be adult because I remember Aunoma saying that it's in a timeline where Ganon\Ganondorf appears multiple times, whereas in the adult timeline, Ganondorf only appears once.

Also, in the adult timeline, The Rito look more like humans with beaks. Whereas in BotW, The Rito are 100% Anthropomorphic Birds. No human elements whatsoever.

also, the zelda breath of the wild timeline should be after skyward sword because of the shiekah race since in the games of "the legend of zelda 1 and 2" impa was already of old age and had met link before in her elderly state during those games while in breath of the wild when impa meets link after 100 years she tells link on how she aged which would mean long ago at some point impa was much younger 100 years ago and more active. also there can only be one impa since seeing where the history of breath of the wild states on ganon's terror going on for generations which was over 10,000 years ago impa would have been dead a very long time ago though her sister purah also would have been long dead as well. also, there were no shiekahs present other than impa herself during these game timelines:
    1. the legend of Zelda: a link to the past
    2. the legend of Zelda: oracle of ages/seasons
    3. the legend of Zelda: link’s awakening
    4. The legend of Zelda: a link between worlds
    5. The legend of Zelda: triforce heroes
    6. The legend of Zelda
    7. The legend of Zelda 2: the adventures of link

It's blatantly not just one Impa, though. Impa has the most variety in incarnations of the recurring characters, from wise old woman to skilled warrior and rotund mother figure. Plus, SS Impa's skin was way darker than other versions, and she was an old woman by the end of SS, but then would have to de-age by Ocarina.

@@weebisherror5110 Well, it's after SS if it's after OOT, sincd SS is a prequel to OOT. 🤔

The return of the Sheikah in BOTW is a mystery.
My theory on this is that they are from the past. The Monks were Time Travelers sent by Hylia to prevent the world's destruction by helping the Hero and the Princess.
      This is Hylia's third plan.
10 000 years after and the Sheikah Tribe was reborn, with the Impa's bloodline, only remaining OOT Sheikah, taking the role of chief.

What if everyone in the Zelda fanbase just forget the timeline that Nintendo made and start from the beginning.
Zelda 1, we start from there and go through every single game, mainly the ones in the original timeline. We also don’t take any stuff that Nintendo said for the games.
      Just an idea
