You Beat me to It. $45 Dollars of FF save Thousands on these trucks. I blew out the Frame Rails with Compressed Air then Soaked the Rails Internally. Rust is the only thing that Will Stop these.
Good morning and thank you. I heard about this problem years ago and I was going to do "something" on my 15 Tacoma but I never did. Came across this video the other day and decided I was going to take care of it on my 22 4runner. Ordered the plastic 3/8th barb couplings and new push clips, (cause whenever I take them out one of them seems to break). Got the 3/8 ID hose at Advanced auto. I started with a 12" piece and ended up cutting about an inch off AFTER install ( so about an 11' piece). I wanted to make sure it cleared the frame. It's tucked in just like you have it with about a 1/4" hanging past the frame. It looks factory. I did happen to watch a bunch of other video's of people doing it their way. This is by far the BEST way I found. Neat, Simple AND I can keep a visual on it from time to time to make sure the drain hasn't clogged.
Absolutely, the fact that it’s visual is one of the reasons why I routed that way (not to mention through the inside, your dealing with exhaust heat) Thank you for sharing + I’m glad you got it done!! Safe travels!! 🤘🏻
Watched this video and ran out to my 2022 4Runner. I was expecting the worse but the frame below the tubing was perfect. Ordered the stuff on Amazon and just installed it. It’s a tight area but it took me about 15 minutes. Problem solved. Awesome video
Awesome. Got my 2009 Tacoma4.0L .. in 2012. Did not like that drip on my frame back then.. I just used size bigger hose and slided over smaller one .. Still good. This video is gold. Just did mine, an SR5 2020 5th Gen. My hose is on the longer side though. I'll keep my eye on it but tested it and the water drains straight to the ground where it's supposed to be.
Thank you again for a great DIY video. I have a muscle disease that prevents me from doing a lot of my own maintenance so I was worried I wouldn’t have the strength and agility to do this mod. Your instructions were spot on and, for me, it was as easy as you showed. Thank you! I did end up running the hose a little longer (zip tied through hole under the strut) so it wouldn’t be in the wheel well. I worry about the ice and snow caked up in the wheel well here in Minnesota.
Thanks!! I just did my FJ yesterday. The drain line was shorter than on your 4runner. It took me longer to find my tool to pop the fender guard fasteners than it it did to actually attach the hose.
Just did this mod. Definitely take the wheel off if you want to use clamps and have easy access. I was barely able to do it and couldn't get one of the clamps on. Will do it later this year when I'm swapping to winters.

Another informative video! BTW, this morning I'll be dropping a deposit on one of the last 2023 4Runner TRD Pros in Solar Octane... it's out at sea on it's way to a nearby harbor and when it arrives, it's mine! WooHoo! The sales manager at my local dealership did a search and let me know which dealership in the area was scheduled to receive one more Pro in Solar Octane. Very cool guy!
@@VikingsGarage Thank you! I'll be taking advantage of a lot of your tips tricks and mods. Question: Why do so many lift options exclude the TRD Pro? Don't all the trims share the same basic chassis, shock mounts, etc. not including the fox shocks? I'm not anxious to lift my truck, but I might want the option down the line. I might settle for slightly larger tires.
I did this modification on my 2019 Tacoma and just recently bought a 2024 4Runner with apparently the same design problem so off I go to the local Lowe’s or depot to find the barb fitting and 3/8” hose😎👍
Hey VIking, I've been a subscriber for awhile now and really like the videos. Also envious of the green OR 4Runner! Mine is a 2015 Limited. I took a look at my AC drain line and sure enough it dumps right on the frame. I went ahead and did the mod, but interestingly I have no rust on the frame in that location or anywhere else for that matter. Oh well, I plan to keep it forever so it's good cheap insurance. I'm sure my frame is rust free because of where we live (west Texas). It is very dry and we rarely ever get any snow. If I move to a more humid climate, I'll probably go ahead and get the LINE-X undercoat put on. Back to your channel though, it's all good information and I check out your videos before I try anything new!
Thanks for the video! I definitely plan to do this and ordered the stuff from your description! One questions came to mind (granted I don’t know too much about cars). With the drain hose being in the wheel well/closer to the elements, do you think or have you experienced any clogging more frequently in the drain hose?
I usually haven’t seen any clog up… but I have the habit to shoot pressured air up the drain every other service, just in case. Thank you for your support!! 🙏🏻
what a simple preventative measure, thank you!. Although I couldn't see the drain and you inserting the coupling it seems clear where it is so will give it a shot. Any risk the drain gets clogged from the coupling? great video, I have seen your 4R videos and all great, keep it up. new subscriber. Where is your repair center or do you work outside, I am in the Tri-state area.
I am currently working at a Toyota dealer. A/c drains can get clogged, it’s smart to shot pressurized into it every so often. I appreciate your support!! 🙏🏻
Toyota didn't fix it because it isn't broken. The a/c drain is not what causes the frames to rust. It's road salt in northern states. The frames never rust in states where they don't use salt on the roads.
I extended the drain line for the AC as you showed, good idea. I noticed on the interior center vent of your 4Runner you have the nose of a plane with propeller, where did you find it? I I also have a 2022 TRD ORP. Great vehicle. Thanks for all your work. Toyo12😎
Given the size of the coupler reduces tube diameter a few mm, will it bottleneck and force water back into the truck cab? Especially if dirt accumulates. Any experiences after testing? Does nylon melt being so close to heat? Love the vids!!!!
I ended up going with a silicone vacuum hose but was debating, fuel, heater, etc, again bc of heat. What is the OEM ac evaporator hose made of anyway???

@@VikingsGarage Would that just blow things up into the system (if clogged above the coupler). I was curious if it would be better to take a larger heater hose and not use a coupler.
Dear master, what was the outside diameter of the evaporator water drain hose on the 4Runner. I would like to sleeve over it. I don’t want any mud to build up over time in between the barb connector.
Crazy Toyota hasn't addressed this. How many other small easy fixes have they looked over? Never would have associated this kind of slackness from the big T. I just bought a '23 GX460 and it sufferers from the KDSS lean, another issue Toyota has just ignored over the years. Crazy they would allow all these KDSS vehicles to drive around leaning. But, I still love my Toyota's.
They don't address it because that isn't what causes the frame to rust. It's salt on the roads from northern states. I have worked on hundreds of these trucks the only ones that rust are from up north.

While this mod works well, I can't stress the importance of keeping the line free and clear. With the new hose, it's more likely to suck in water then it was before. If you don't get a lot of rain it won't be a problem.
The easier solution would be to convince the wife that we don't need to have the AC on in the summer... Who am I kidding! 😂 I'm doing this asap. Thanks for the tip, Viking!
I have a question and it might be the dumbest one you ever got. With the way that manufacturers and dealerships like to decline warranty repairs. Would this void your factory and extended warranty. Also for rain guards on your doors and cat shields. Sorry to bother you about this but you can give the most accurate answer since you work in service at the dealership. Thanks in advance and have a good weekend.
@@VikingsGarage yeah maybe, but glad you did it nonetheless. I’ve known about this but kept forgetting or putting it off and now that I’ve seen the video I can stop putting it off and get it done. So appreciate the reminder lol
@@VikingsGaragedid it today. Hit advanced and got a 3/8” heater hose 12” and a 3/8 barbed coupler and added two hose clamps. Then I ran it the same route you took through the bottom of the splash skirt and then I cut off probably 4” and then another 2” and that leaves it to the bottom of the frame. Probably didn’t need the two clamps but 🤷♂️ wth right.

The easier solution would be to convince the wife that we don't need to have the AC on in the summer...
Who am I kidding! 😂 I'm doing this asap. Thanks for the tip, Viking!
😆
😮
Scary stuff right!!
In Soviet Russia, AC drains YOU !!!
I be damned. Simple as breathing.
🤷🏼♂️👍🏻
I have a question and it might be the dumbest one you ever got. With the way that manufacturers and dealerships like to decline warranty repairs. Would this void your factory and extended warranty. Also for rain guards on your doors and cat shields. Sorry to bother you about this but you can give the most accurate answer since you work in service at the dealership. Thanks in advance and have a good weekend.
None of the ones you mention affect the vehicles performance or functionality… so they won’t void your warranty.
Was unsub’d from your channel smh yall check your subscription.
Oh boy 🤦🏼♂️ … well I’m glad you got the very important information.
I should have made this video a while back.
