I fly fish for trout a lot. There are so many regulations here in North Carolina. Creel limits, slot limits, catch and release only, delayed harvest, single hook/single fly only. There is a lot that could be done for bass populations all over the country that would help.
Tournament fishing kills just as many if not more than recreational fishing. Compare how many fish caught per boat per Tournament .fish dying after weigh-in.
I live in Manitoba, Canada where Walleye is king. We've had the following for years : season closed for fishing during the spawn , barbless hooks, slot sizes, limit sizes, huge fines for cheaters, an aggressive restocking program and more. In tournaments fish are measured on bump boards and released while pictures/vids are taken to verify. The system isn't perfect but a darn site better than what you describe. Sport fishing attracts anglers from many counties and the powers to be realize the huge economic impact so there's incentive. FFS has not been addressed yet but I'm confident it will come. I've met and fished with numerous Americans mostly on fly-in trips and they've been excellent. Knowledgeable and great fisherman however they don't seem to appreciate the nuances of fisheries management. Good luck with your fight to educate. Al
I think you hit the nail on the head. Too much pressure…too many bass tournaments and technology has ruined bass fishing. In Illinois the conversation department now severely lacking.
I’m almost 50 and I catch and release but I have a lot of buddies who are older than me and some old timers. Still keep and eat their bass, hard problem to fix but the slot limit would be a good start and banning the cheater box and no keeping fish during the spawn a great idea.
Ive noticed that a certain group seems to totally ignore any and all harvest regulations. Ive seen this in both salt and fresh water. Not even fishing with rod and reel, just chucking a cast net and pulling in whatever and keeping all of it. Ive seen a guy cast right on to a flat full of beds. Something happened three or four years ago... what was it i wonder.
The big lakes around here are too pressured too. I focus on the smaller lakes that allow 10hp or less or even electric only. Fishing has remained good on those lakes. Maybe even better lately. Do you ever fish super deep like 50-60 feet?
Randy a fishery is dynamic. Beating the same bank for 40 years will not lead to the same rate of catch per unit effort for eternity. Especially with the increased pressure on table rock. The fish have been living offshore since the lakes conception and it is a blessing that anglers now have the opportunity to catch fish offshore in a more efficient way. If not for the advent of forward facing sonar, all of this increased pressure would concentrate anglers to only fish the bank or visible structure which would be vastly unsustainable if you want the fishery to get better. But this impoundment is a fantastic fishery as 30 lb bags were caught out of it last spring. It's clear there is a healthy and sustainable population of trophy size bass of all three species. The only possible issue one could have with the size structure and population size in table rock lake is the overpopulation of spotted bass which have certainly reached carrying capacity and are now subject to growth overfishing. This is in part to the lack of harvest of this species. If more anglers kept spotted bass we could easily see a situation in this fishery which is similar to fisheries in the western states which consistently produce 5+ pound spotted bass. The absolute last thing this fishery needs is stocking, you would understand this better after using forewarn facing sonar to identify massive schools of bass throughout the lake. I encourage you to do so. An especially high concentration of these schools can currently be exploited leading to massive success on the lake for numbers of fish the past 3 weeks. 25-100 fish days have been common for me and my peers recently. I would encourage you to discuss any possible issue you have with this fishery with your state conservation agency who oversees this impoundment prior to subjecting thousands of viewers to opinion-based disinformation.
Every time I watch one of Randy's videos, it makes me think about a song that Shania Twain sings (that don't impress me much). It's a song that describes Randy.
In Sir Randall we trust and believe, spot on with your believe in the decline of the bass fishery ,keep up the good fight may the bass Gods be with you
Sam Rayburn fishing is suffering as well and the hydrilla grass habitat is now a fraction of what it once was. I’m 66 and have fished Rayburn for 40 years.
Exactly Randy I was waiting for you to say keep off the spawning beds it’s a no brainer! That and forward view same rules for everyone! Then the bass would have half a chance! As far as harvesting bass keep the juveniles not the producers!
I am with 100 percent but good luck with MDC. I contacted them and I was told they are watching it very closly. I would hate to think how bad it could be if they weren't. that might reassure you it didn't me.
They need to have a better restock programm. I know catfish snd trout get stocked alot herr in ky. I think the fish limit should change. I think the size limit should change!! If they have to be 12 inches to keep. But no more then 15. Or a certain weight limit. Above and below s certain weight. I have said this for yrs!! The fishery eill suffer!!! Noone believed me!!! But now look what has happened. I seen it coming after covid. How many anglers have emerged!! Social media how to videos. Bait selections. Even the show you was part off with thr lake breakdowns!!!! All this stuff has contributed to the decline of the fishery
Table rock has definitely declined. I been fishing it for nearly 30 years and it sucks right now. Stockton is heading the same way. We use to catch a few 6lb fish most every trip. Now you’re doing good to get a 2 lb. Tournament fishing has gotten way outta control
I fished Table Rock for 25 years. Haven’t been in 2 years. Last time I was there in the spring for a 7 day trip with my dad we caught 7 keepers and maybe a total of 25 fish… I work to hard to waste my for a trip like that.
@@colegray3037 Saying "keepers" doesn't necessarily mean the person kept the fish. It's just bass fishing jargon. But, yes, maybe the person DID keep the fish. We just don't know.
Stocking, regulations and habitat restorations are all doable. Ffs may be banned in some tournaments, but will never be banned in general. Anyone that thinks that’s going to happen at this point is delusional. There may have been a window six or seven years ago when that would have been possible, but that ship has sailed.
I recently went to Grand and caught 16 in a matter of less than two hours off the corners of a row of docks. I maybe had one 14 inch keeper. I would guess out of the 16 fish I might of had 10 or 11 pounds. It was fun but on the other hand pretty sad. I always catch and release.
My opinion, same here in Maryland, less fish. I have been fishing for about 60 years. I believe we have been poisoning our waters countrywide since the early 70s when we went to notil farming. Guess where the millions of tons of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides end up. We have altered the chemical composition of our waters killing first the building blocks of life in the waters. I have noticed a huge decline in aquatic life, crayfish minnows insects etc. Can anyone remember when driving at night meant a buggy windshield? No more. This pollution is a silent killer.
The genie is out of the bottle and is not going back.People are not going to agree with you Randy until it is too late. It's just the nature of todays society.😢
Good video. I agree with you on everything in this video. Two big hurdles i see, number one getting the public to agree with any new government sponsored regulations is difficult and in general i don't like government regulations either but in some cases common sense dictates their application such as this. Another problem is the amount of tax dollars it would take to enforce these regulations. You can make all the regulations you want but if you don't enforce them you actually make the problem worse (see illegal immigration as an example). I am the same age as you and i figure the best thing I have going for me is maybe I'll be dead before bass fishing has become for all practical purposes a memory.
How about catch and release for 3 years, every species. Sorry, can't believe that many people need to keep fish to eat or they will starve. I never keep my fish, doesn't matter what I catch. Or, extreme limits and extreme slots. I have no problem with that. In fact, make it 5 years across the country.
You keep making the same lame excuses. And if your fish that used to be on certain spots have moved, find them on your flasher. You're a former "Pro" and need to adjust. All you care about and discuss is tournaments and that is selfish. What about the recreational angler that just wants to go out and catch a few after a hard week of work and there is a boat every 100 feet on the bank. No chance for them. You are a hypocrite and narcissist. You make it sound like you are fighting for anglers and conservation, but it's all about you. You know too many tournaments are what is killing bass fishing and even say it, yet do nothing about it, and even continue to fish them. If you are going to make a stand, then start with yourself as an example. And as far as FFS there are two distinct discussions with this which should not be combined. #1 should they be allowed in competition. #2 Should they be banned from everyone. #1 is an opinion, #2 would need a professional extended (ten+ year?) study to prove any damage from using it.
My greatest concern is how to recover from all these economic and global troubles and stay afloat especially with the political power tussle going on in US.
As a beginner, it's essential for you to have a mentor to keep you accountable. Myself, I'm guided by Angela Phyllis Martin. for years and highly recommend him l focus on her. To be honest, I almost didn't buy the idea of letting someone handle growing my finance, but so glad I did.
Yea I agree. But randy you and your buddies bed fished for years. Passed it off by site fishing. Which is something I’ve never done.
Agree. I’ve never bed fished and never will
I believe the tournament fishing needs to stop

For saying this vid wasn’t about FFS you sure mentioned it multiple times. Lol. You just can’t help yourself. 😂😂. Gotta love it.
Tournament fishing is a major problem for these lakes and ffs just compounds it and makes it even worse.

What is the difference in using 2D sonar sitting over a school of fish in 30-60ft catching 50 fish vs doing the same with FFS?
