- The City of Tallmadge was founded in 1807 by the Reverend David Bacon and was part of the Connecticut Western Reserve, an area in the Northwest Territory owned, sold and distributed by the State of Connecticut in the years after the American Revolution. It was incorporated as a village in 1936 and became a city in 1951. Tallmadge, which has a total area of 14.02 square miles, is located in both Summit and Portage counties. It is the second oldest city in Summit County, Ohio.
The city is a charter municipal corporation, incorporated under the laws of the State of Ohio. It operates under a Mayor-Council form of government. The Mayor, Council, Finance Director and Law Director are elected officials.
