The word Israel is used in many different contexts in Scripture. The word is used as the name of an individual, the name of a people, the name of a territory, the name of a united Kingdom, the name of a divided Kingdom and the name of the Commonwealth. Before changing Jacob’s name to Israel, YeHoVaH had more in mind than simply the name of a man.
This study defines the different ways the term has been and is being applied. As Scripture unfolds, it is clear that Israel was a term that would expand taking on additional meanings with each unfolding. Who is the real Israel today?
