He was known to be a very sweet, gentle, humble and down to earth person. Had a reputation of being the rarest persons in film world which is a money oriented show business. Being in that kind of an industry, he remained untouched.

This interview was done hours before his live concert in London in the mid 70s. He was a gem of a person, God lived in his heart and throat. God found words for His expressions every time this great soul used to sing.
On several occasions, Rafi Sahab would not charge a single penny for singing a song just because he liked the composition. Several music composers have echoed this in their interviews.
He used drive cab in Mumbai during nights only so that no one recognises him. He had to earn by driving a cab as he had to go for the Hajj pilgrimage and music is forbidden in his religion. So, the money earned through music could not have been used for religious pilgrimage. He was so honest and genuine person. When we talk about his singing, that's a different topic altogether.

One of Mohammed Rafi's greatest songs is from the movie Ustaadon ke Ustaad, "sau baar janam lenge" his greatness can be known in this song by realising how his voice does not waver even while singing slow tunes. I wish you would react to this and also react on another of his classic comedy song with the comedic legend Mehmood from the movie Gumnaam, "hum kaale he to kya hua dil waale he" with the dancing legend Helen.

Mohd. Rafi is the father of playback singing and the ultimate playback singer. He taught Bollywood (and the world) what playback singing truly is. He is the basis of success of a dozen of music directors and dozen of actors. He has the unique ability to render each note perfectly with all the suitable feelings and emotions in a style that matches the actor on screen, situation of the song, style of musical director and classical aspects of the raaga used in the composition. He is venerated as God by Sonu Nigam, SPB, Yesudas and other top singers of India. Mannada, Lataji, Ashaji, Kishorda and all other singers come after him.
Mohd Rafi is the North Star of playback singing.
    Dig every song of him.
