  • The USS Makin Island is a finely tuned machine due in large part to the hard work and dedication of those on board. Meet Captain Pringle, Lieutenant Jackson and Lieutenant McNab, three officers on board the ship. Though their responsibilities differ, these individuals now work for a common goal within the Navy. America's Navy, A Global Force for Good.

    Sir, Congratulations on being successful in your life and not going down the wrong road. You should be extremely proud of yourself! I served in USN as enlisted dental technician. Loved it! Wanted to stay 30 years but was only able to make it 5 1/2 years due to a disabling illness. Have so much pride for our country and our military! Praise God! Also live in SC.

      Must be an LDO. He is wearing both so it must be okay. Some officer of senior NCO wouild have tightened him up before now if it were not I would think. Or maybe the Navy has just gotten lax.

    what is the percentage of white vs black ship commanders in the navy, is it equal opportunity?

    • @logansorenssen
      @logansorenssen 5 лет назад

      It is in theory. In practice, I think they do well but not perfectly in that regard. That said, for my first 10 years in the Navy, at least one person in my chain of command was black, and usually more than one (and it wasn't just LPOs and LCPOs, but officers as well, up to and including the squadron commodore). Overall, IIRC, about 22% of enlisted and 18% of officers are black, which is greater than the population percentage for the USA at large. (I'd have to double-check those figures - they're recollections from probably 10 years ago.)
      I'm not sure about COs and CO-grade officers specifically (O-5 and O-6), though. There definitely are a fair number, but I can't remember if the percentage still tracks that for officers in general or not.
