  • Nzambi Matee is a Kenyan engineer and head of Gjenge Makers Ltd., a social enterprise that produces sustainable low-cost construction materials made of recycled plastic waste. Nzambi was honoured with the United Nations Environment Programme's 2020 Young Champions of the Earth prize, recognizing outstanding environmental leaders from the public and private sectors. The Young Champions of the Earth prize is the leading initiative to engage youth in tackling the world's most pressing environmental challenges. Seven winners were announced in December 2020. The winners are given funding and mentorship to support their environmental initiative. Since its inception in 2017, 28 environmental trailblazers have been recognised from every corner of the globe.

You are an incredible woman and role model! Please come to Canada and speak to our Prim Minister or whoever to get something like this going chère. Currently we are paying countries like the Phillippines to take in much of our garbage. And some provinces don’t even recycle. It’s disgusting how much plastic is thrown out here!

Well of course this is possible, but in other countries we just throw them in the landfill knowing this and then invest billions in making more waste via "tech upgrades" and mining and then try to call ourselves "green"...i wonder if the government had to invest billions in management to figure this out? Hopefully, when you highlight these stories, you see your own irony...🙄

I would understand if the plastic was re-used so that new plastic doesn't need to be produced, but I don't see how re-using plastic to make bricks that would not be made from plastic solves anything.
