Personal videos like this go a long way for people who don't have friends in the hobby. Videos like this keep me motivated. Thank you.
always love your videos. So much fun and LOVE how honest your videos are. Love Ryan and Thomas' videos but hands down you are my fave of all the marine depot and BRS peeps. Always make me laugh and always on point!!!!
Tank is looking great! I think if you get a few more species of faster growing macro algae in there, itll help to outcompete the nuisance algae, especially now with the introduction of a lot of nutrients from all the inhabitants. Small trims regularly are best especially since you’re not dosing. If you were dosing to maintain nutrients, just adjust the amount after cutting. You could even trim the gracilaria up and place it elsewhere in the tank instead of removing it. My gorgs will sometimes close up and algae will grow on them and like a leather they’ll shed the outer layer and be happy as a clam again. Just keep them in good flow so it’s easier for them to shed. Definitely keep up on the cleaning of the sponge. If the syphon are blocked they can’t eat. I’ve trimmed shaving brush before and had success so hey give it a try (we can chat about that later). As for the red grape, maybe try another gyre on the opposite side running alternate flow. You’ll get a nice flow one way for a few seconds and then the other way. Not sure if that’s too much flow for the seahorses (chat with the seahorse guru). Over all loving the tank but yea that rock… very Falic 🤣
Tyler, my macro guru! I'm always amazed at how much you know about this stuff. What fast growing macro do you recommend? Also good to know that the sponge cleaning is a good idea, I'm going to do it again today! And I'm going to think about that extra gyre. The seahorses seem to like the higher flow, I'm more worried about the sugar fine sand, but, as long as I keep them on opposite schedules, it should be fine! I never even noticed the penis like rock until I posted that picture!
Love your videos. I always learn something from your videos. Thank you for passing on your knowledge to our community in this hobby. You are my favorite reefer out there. Thank you!
I'm late to the party but spent the last few days off work watching your channel and im now addicted, I have downsized to 1 reeftank now I live 3 up in an apartment (damn it) but thoroughly enjoying the most naturally enjoyable videos while still learning and getting ideas at the same time. 10/10 from me, from the fish to to the corals, the macros and the lighting, the drones and the driving it makes very good viewing and like many others I'm sure they enjoy it also. 😀 Thank you for all the effort in filming and editing while running a family it's appreciated 🏴 👍👊💯
I used to think your video editing style is what attracted me to your channel. And don’t get me wrong, it is an awesome style. But after watching this recent release I find it’s just you and your personality that makes your videos great. Appreciate the “on-the-fly” video and seeing something different from you. Keep it up and hopefully you weren’t too taxed on producing this one.
Vino, that is one of the nicest things I've heard in a long time. Thanks for taking time to write this. Definitely gave me a bit of a boost today! And definitely not too taxing for this one! But when I don't do a big edit, boy can I ramble!
Nice Vlog video Matthew. The Seahorse/macro algae tank is looking good. The different types of macro algae you have in there work well together & looks nice. I like how the seahorses and the goby were face to face at the end of the video. 😀
I miss my seahorses like crazy. Such great little personalities. But they were declared illegal to keep or sell in South Africa, so when my last one passed away, I gave up on reef-keeping.
Is that shaving brush from Florida also? If your tank is at 72, it may be too cold. It grows in water off the Florida Keys that is typically shallow. Also it’s coralline, so it needs calcium.
Did the green toadstool not work out with the seahorses? Amazing video and I love the freestyle Vlog and Thank you for this Journey! I am considering a salt talk and I appreciate these resources and your energy ✌️ 🎉😎
I cant wait to get my first saltwater system going. i have a large canister filter for now but im slowly buying parts for a External overflow and sump set up
@@MyFirstFishTank Oh i do i have been doing tons of research i joined the BRS Facebook group. I would like to know what Size sump i would need i really want a pre made sump that is not to pricey are there any good costly trigger system sumps? I have also been watching a lot of your videos to cant wait for more guides and reviews
This is a great video…..there is not a ton of vids on your type of tank and inhabitants. I’ve had luck dipping gorgonians with problem surface algae in diluted hydrogen peroxide solution. All have survived.
Hey Matthew, just wanted to extend a thanks incase you didn't see on brs channel. followed beginners series from start and tank is doing well 🤞 New growth on corals already!!
Have you really watched them all? That's amazing and some serious dedication! Send me some pictures of your tank when you get a chance, I would love to see it. contact (@) myfirstfishtank (.com)
Hi your tanks are all looking amazing … I just got my first marine tank going its been running since June and its going well apart from sporid worm problem, which i know its down to over feeding.. I love your videos they are very informative.. keep up the good work 👍…
I've never even heard of sporid worms! Is it a big issue? I'm going to look it up right now! Thanks for watching and love to see some pictures of your setup if you get a chance. contact (@) myfirstfishtank (.com)
@@MyFirstFishTank hi i have a tank thread on reef2reef taylor made reef aquaone minireef it needs a update lol that filter sox is gone i have got the reefing bug bad done some custom things to the sump…
Absolutely. Most corals can probably grow under a freshwater light, given that there is enough par. The blues make the fluorescents pop, and there is also a lot of PAR in the blue range, but freshwater lights can also work great!
Matthew, I can’t find the video that has the majano wand that you used on the aptasia. So I guess I’ll put my question here. When I first started I made the mistake of putting some ugly brown palys in my tank. I didn’t know better at the time and they have grown all over the place in my 90 gallon cube. Will the majano wand kill palys also? I scrub them with a tooth brush every other week and they just grow back. To any beginners don’t put ugly brown palys or brown snowflake polyps in your tank. You will later regret it!
I think it would be awesome to turn it onto an NPS tank later on as you already have phytoplankton dosing and why don't keep some non photosynthetic gorgonians and some sun corals
I got interest in saltwater when i seen the Tanked TV show one thing im confused with is how they were able to put fish in the same day they put the water in the tank without cycling did they use some kind of Bottle l Bacteria? Have you or anyone used there l ATM Colony Nitrifying Bacteria?
Yeah, there are different methods of quick cycling that can allow you to add fish right away. Certain bacteria like Fritz turbo start, or they may have added in some ceramic media that was already cycled. Thanks for watching Tyler!
Just keep in mind that some macros are faster growers than others, halimeda sp. tend to be more of the slow growing side. From my experience with codium is that if you put it on a place where it gets continous flow, will trive very well and will look very beautifull, you could try to place some on the top of that pene looking rock or somewhere on the middle way to the top, I'm sure you it will grow diferentley and people will stop telling you the way your rock looks like. (In nature Codium tend to grow on rock with fast flow areas), about the algae on top of your algae keep watching, maybe is only matter of maturity of your tank, or it could be something that you are dosing is creating the issue, maybe reduce at a time some of the fertiliser and watch how does the tank behave.
Yeah, I guess we should just call it the pene rock for now! I didn't realize codium would thrive in high flow, so I may need to do a trimming and move a piece. And food for thought on the algae growing on top of algae. Maybe it is too much of the chaeto grow, or maybe the tank just needs more time to settle in like you said. Thanks for taking the time to write out your thoughts, certainly appreciated!
I’m rooting for Verstappen but Mercedes is just so fast on those straights and with Hamilton getting three wins in a row, I think they have the momentum!
