Beste Zangers or "Best Singers" is a Dutch television show featuring multiple professional singers (all those folks sitting and reacting on the couches) who perform each others songs. Floor and Henk are performing the the more upbeat/rock version of "Phantom" that is performed by Nightwish. Henk Plays the Phantom in Europe and also features on the show. This is actually a well-constructed hybrid of the original stage version and the Nightwish cover, with nature providing the opening thunderclap.

nice reaction. Floor can sing... everything.
Since you've hit GLS and now Phantom, there's a ton of Nightwish songs that we'll all request of you, but if you really want to hear her range and ability, I would highly recommend hitting Yours is an Empty Hope live at Wembley (to hear her growl), the acoustic version of How's The Heart (like Phantom, full range singing live and without any place to hide), and then the studio version of Shoemaker off their most recent album (you'll get the aria/opera type singing in that one moreso than w/ Phantom).
One of my personal favs (and a Nightwish classic) is Ever Dream. She gets up there in like D5 range and just lives there for most of the song. That one also will give you a taste of Marko's singing ability (Nightwish's bassist). Keep 'em coming!

Great reaction and analysis. It's always nice when one of the more technically minded vocal coaches on here does a reaction/analysis to Floor. Floor's approach to interpreting vocals focuses on extensive use of dynamics and tone qualities to convey the emotion and story of the songs she sings. She does a bunch of things in her approach to this song to add dynamics to Christine's part:
    1) She starts the song higher, staying out of chest voice, to allow her to start in a softer dynamic place, but uses momentary shifts into other tone qualities (e.g. the nasality and twang on there, the belty "my miiiiind") to convey emotion.
    2) She gradually increases in vocal weight through the course of the song.
    3) She starts the crescendo soft and very round, and progressive adds power, goes wider, and starts using harsh onsets as she climbs to make Christine sound more and more frenzied as the song climaxes.
If you want a Nightwish song with Floor that has lots of interesting things going on for analysis, I would recommend Dead Boy's Poem, live from Buenos Aires 2018. This performance has Floor doing some really interesting things, notably she shifts her vocal configuration almost continuously as the song progresses to slowly ebb and flow from a very soft, breathy opening all the way to a huge belt add the end of the song with no clearly defined breaks between disparate tone qualities. It's pretty uncanny.
Another excellent one would be How's the Heart live acoustic for Planet Rock where Floor is accompanied only by an acoustic guitar and changes her vocal configuration constantly to meet the song's demands. She uses varying levels of cord closure, different resonances, weights, timbres, and shows a bunch of agility. It's awesome.

Henk (an opera singer who played the phantom in the original run of the musical in the Netherlands) does the distortion because this arrangement is heavily based on Nightwish's version, where Marco sings the Phantom all metal growl style. For me, this is the perfect combination of both of these versions, because it shows both the phantom's smooth and alluring side as well as his creepy and ugly side.
(I also have the biggest respect that he learned to sing with distortion just for Floor. He was super nervous about it too when he sang Sound of Silence earlier, and it sounds great. Heartily recommended.)

The concept of the show is, that on one day all singers sing a song for one of them.
It's a song that is by that singer or a song that means a lot for him / her. So it is very interesting to get to know the story behind each song. And it will help to understand the reactions of the other singers. Floor is singing there in German, Dutch, Spanis and English.

Henk Poort is a Dutch Baritone operatic singer and (as opera roles aren't a very regular gig) he also played musical theatre, and was Andrew Lloyd Webber's favourite Phantom, and performed the role in the Dutch production for years with over 600 performances - which time coincided with Floor's childhood, and she was taken to see it and idolised him for years - when they met at Beste Zangers she went all fan-girly, but Henk had apparently been following her carreer in the background ever since her time at the conservatoire studying musical theatre and Opera there after graduating from the Rock Academy. He and Tim Ackermann, with whom she'd crossed paths at festivals) were the only singers who didn't have to look her up! Shameful comment on radio in her home country. Each singer, in turn, has a day when the others sing songs for them - either one which has special meaning for them, or a cover of one of their own sogs. In this way, they found out what their singing was like in genres other than their own.
On the final episode, each chose a duet with one of the others. This was the final duet, and if you look carefully, you can see the pavilion they are in (professionally rigged and quite large) and a lot of the set being destroyed around them by a massive cloudburst over the resort where it was filmed, so water dripping in the background, Floor's back is actually wet, other singers were pulling their feet up onto the couch to keep them dry, and the band and techs were checking leads and power supplies to make sure nobody got electrocuted - that thunderclap at the beginning is not an effect, by the way, although by bringing in the band in perfect timing with it, it seems to be - a brilliant catch by the band to use it that way! And performed so brilliantly that most don't even notice that, as they are so in the zone, and the chemistry between them so good.
Just as well it was the grand finale of the series though.
But back to the show format: you (and they) could find out just how good each singer is in other genres and styles (or in theory, not - although all were good within their range last year). So this was the closing song of the series and they could not have done it better. Henk's condition for performing this with her?, to repeat it on stage with Nightwish on their next Dutch performances, and this is going to happen! I'm desperately hoping it will be properly and professionally recorded and made available for fans afterwards. Phantom has been out of their setlist too long, so I hope that performances in other countries include it, but with Marco (or who knows - maybe Troy?) as The Phantom.in place of Henk. In this show Floor performs Opera in German in one episode, a Spanish song in another, And Dutch and English songs in a wide variety of genres, and nails them all. She also sings in Latin, Italian, and I believe Finnish, which just goes to demonstrate just how versatile she is.
Believe me, you've only scraped the surface!

For this rendition Henk sang disturbed and Floor came back to the more classical sound. This why imho the rendition is the best ever. That band behind is so good, there is no one better in the world. For the proof discover early years of the show and btw found out that we have real world class singer with a great level of versatility. Lesson material available for years.

Floor is a goddess and vocal beast! With that said, why isn’t Henk more of a big deal? His voice is so powerful, and he can hold his own best to Floor. I could totally see him singing symphonic!

The most operatic performance of the Beste Zangers 2019 season was Floor's performance of "Vilja Lied", a tribute to Henk Poort, her Phantom partner. "Vilja Lied" was the first performance of BZ 2019 and it was quite a surprise for her co-stars who had never heard of Nightwish. Metal is not popular in the Netherlands, a country more attuned to folk music. It quickly became evident during the weekly performances that Floor can sing any genre of music. Her opera voice appears again in the new 2020 Nightwish song, "Shoemaker" which is a tribute to the scientist Eugene Showmaker, the only human buried on the moon.

Floor has had a crush on Henk since she saw him in Phantom at 13. Floor is very smooth when she changes in transition. She has admitted that she s a vocal technique nerd.

Now you also have to do the nightwish version of phantom of the opera with their original singer Tarja Turunen. Preferably The End of an Era live version. Then you notice how much the beste zangers arrangment has Tuomas Holopainen's arrangment in it. Tuomas is the keyboard player and the main composer of Nightwish tunes. :)

You have just scratched the surface of this incredible singer. And I known you have already got a lot of excellent suggestions for the next song - but - if you really want to be impressed, then it is the acoustic version of "How is the Heart" from Planet Rock Radio. It is only her and Troy - and a microphone - performing an extremely difficult song, techniques do not help them here. No wonder why Troy calls Floor's voice for Stratospheric - this is insanely difficult - just try ot yourself - and Floor makes it look easy and a piece of cake. She has told in different interviews that their new album really challenged for the first time - and sve loved it. This one is from the new album and one of tricky ones. Phenomenal performance, also from Troy by the way - and look at his faces when they are finished!!
Go for it - and greeting from Denmark 🇩🇰 👍 🤘🤘

Henk was the Dutch Phantom and Webber's favorite one. Floor has been a fan of his since childhood. They are doing the Nightwish version so he is distorting his voice for her. By the way, pulling back the corners of the mouth is not necessary at all. She does it, but belcanto singers only lengthen, not widen. If the note is imposto the shape of the vowel is not so relevant anymore because the core of the sound is concentrated in a much higher spot than the mouth.
