  • 3rd May 2023. The Wansdyke footpath we are walking today is believed to have been built 20 to 120 years after the Romans left Britain, by native Britains as a defence against the Anglo-Saxons. It is some of the best preserved, with banks up to 14 feet high and a ditch up to 8 feet deep. We will start our walk in West Wood near Marlborough and make our way eastward to Morgan’s Hill finishing at the Smallgrain car park a distance of 12 miles.
