The amazing talent this younger generation of artists demonstrates and their mastery of respective instruments is out of this world. Together they always seem to create magic that takes your breath away and in how they mesmerize their audiences! It is a pure joy to behold!!
Interesting to find the whole performance here.; just two weeks ago exactly the same performance, well only some minutes taans, were discussed during a musicologic conference dealing with the concepts of virtuosity (actually referring to a German virtuoso of the 19th century). I very much remember the said concerning the Ideas about virtuosity amongst Indian scholars - there the conception of "virtuosity" is rather a negative one and in fact the arguments againt it very much remind me on the arguments of European (esp. german speaking) burgeois scholars of the 19th ct. I asked myself, why is this so? Is there a word in Sanskrit/Hindi or other Indian languages, that knows a word analogous to the European "virtuoso?" Does somebody know?
Regarding Uttarpara Sangit Chakra, Sree Purbayan Chatterjee's sitar. My age is 80years,I have listened quite a few artist of vocal and instrument, but very sorry to say you,i couldn't enter the rag.I was thinking is it Indian classical music or I am in a factory? It was beyond my capacity to understand it's surgam, lay, chanda, sur etc.Music is something else.Pl.dont wrestle with music. You are a great artist, tallented artist,pl.listen how Pt.Nikhil Banerjee/Pt.Rabishankar/Ustad Vilayet Khan,/Ustad Halim Zafar Khan played.Pl.dont mind, you are talented artist, impruved yourself.God bless you.
