Today was my beautiful Grandma Linnette's birthday. I just want to thank everyone for making this video so popular, by sharing, liking, watching and enjoying! Without my family's recipes, I wouldn't be able to share content on this channel! I hope you all enjoyed. Im grateful that she allowed me to record and share her recipe/method with you all. Grandma says thank you for over 300K views! 🇬🇾💛
It must have come from southern India. We have paratha for 100s of years. Many things I see south American culture being similar, so strange very less history though between
Never seen that folding before I will try it,I use an enamel cup for the edges & I no longer clap roti ,I put a pair of the finished product in a deep mug and shake & you get the same results
Please tell your grand-mother thank you a million times for me! I tried to make Roti before and each time it was awful. I tried this a couple of weeks ago and it came out great, I did it again today and it was perfect!! It’s easy and really works. Thank you Also for featuring her.
Boy this is it, the ultimate roti recipe! your grandma rocks! I am 35 yrs old and this recipe has enabled me to make a proper oil roti now... like a pro, clapping an so...thanks.
Your grandma know deh ting! The best roti I've seen made on RUclips. Fluffy, lots of layers, and just the right amount of crisp on it. Closest I've seen to my mom's.
Hello Matthew and grandma! these Roti's look fantastic! Thank you for sharing the recipe, and it was very easy to fallow the instructions. I will definitely try it. Thank you again. 🙂
Beautiful. I make rotis daily and I use whole wheat flour. Instead of cutting in half I fold it over again into a triangle and roll it out. But my initial dough ball is much smaller and I also add pinch of salt in my dough. The roti is very flaky and super soft. Thank you for sharing your Grandmom's recipe.
My dear boy Matthew, you are doing very well with these videos ( including the family members who help out in making these videos so explanatory). Your wife or husband or partner children, parents friends and family, and all your viewers are very proud of you. Keep up this fine, and excellent work. I hope to meet you sometime and give you a hug.
This is such a classic recipe. Roti goes with almost everything, it's such a big part of our culture and tradition. To see you master this recipe brings me great joy .. our culture and pride !! I followed this recipe and to my own surprise.. came out so amazingly soft and to perfection!! Thank you for making these videos for people to explore and enjoy their culture and for those who want to be a part of it !!!
Wonderful recipe In the Southern part of India 🇮🇳 we make a flaky bread known as Malabar Parotta which is made with Refined flour, milk and some people add eggs. Vegetarians only add Milk, Salt and Sugar and make it as a dough.
Hi Matthew! Tell grandma thanks for sharing the 2 roti method I never know that . It saves time. Enjoy your grandparents while they are around. Matthew hope to see more of your videos. My Guyanese style of cooking is tasting much better by watching your cooking videos.Which part of Guyana are your parents from? And which part of the USA are you living? Take care!!! 🇨🇦🇬🇾👏
Came across this video, it's been a while! Glad to see nano cooking and strong! 🙏🏽🤗💝🇨🇦 she reminds me of my grandma when I was young. We used to go to her apartment every Sunday after church and have supper there ....just watching her hands work brought back those memories so thank you!
My family is from Trinidad and i have been craving roti, i made a pot of curry and decided to try my hand at roti. Quick search later and i came across your channel. Tried this and it came out amazing thank you to you and your family.
Matthew. it's so nice to see you again with another of your unique recipes . I have never seen that way of folding an oil roti before . Everyone has their own style which I love . Make the food taste more delicious . Thank you handsome young man and your precious grandma to share with us your family recipes . God bless.
The words Tawa , Roti, Baigan, Choka.....are all Indian originated. The style of kneading dough, rolling the rotis with Bailan, layering with oil n final roti peda making are, all Indian. The whole process of layered roti making with Tawa, Chakla n Bailan has firm Indian origin. This kind of rotis are v v famous in Bihar, UP, Bengal n Odissa n eaten daily in breakfast with chokhas n bhajias!! Most of Island nations have huge settlements of Indian migrant. So Indian food is eaten fondly!!!
Hi Matthew, I made this roti with the 5 roses flour and I think the choice of flour brand made a difference because it has a lower protein level compared to other flours, which resulted in a more soft and tender roti. Thanks for sharingvyour family's secrets with us. No more hard roti☺!
I had to stop eating roti (all foods with dairy and eggs)because I’m lactose intolerant. I used ghee, now that I know I can use oil I’ll make it again. Thanks so much for sharing. God bless👍
Just finished making my roti, and it is awesome, gramma your way was so much easier and quicker, they came out soft, and nice just i i like. Thank you.
I really appreciate this. My family is from Guyana ( I am first generation born American ) and my mom never taught me and my grandparents have all passed away. They came here and didn’t show me the old ways, wanted to raise me American. I only have some memories but not enough to recreate. Now I finally have the actual measurements and I do remember the technique. I am very grateful you guys did this. I have my own kids now and they are curious, so I learn to pass down to them what I can. I hope my kids have things like this as we go on in life. ❤❤❤❤❤
I will agree with you Matthew, just from the way they look and her process, Granma makes "the best" roti. Will try her way the next time. I also like the short "rest" periods. Thanks for sharing.
I tried this recipe yesterday to eat with some stew chicken and man was it good! Her technique to make the dough balls is a game changer! I love how it saves so much time and it's so much more simpler! Plus the results are great :) Thanks for sharing another great video
WOW!!! 👍👍What a soft and delicious looking roti. I loved your grandma's way of folding to make a dough ball. I will definitely try this recipe. Thank you to your grandma and you
I am going to make some right now,,, love this fold never seen it before, i am going to try it out, it looks so much easier, thank you Gramma. on my way to make my roti now.
I made these yesterday and they turned out so amazing! I was hoping to have leftovers to reheat the next day, but my family ate it all up. 😅 They were the perfect addition to the curry chicken I made! Thanks so much!!
Thank you! I used your measurements and my oil roti came out just like my moms 😁. I am Guyanese living in TN and this lets me make food just like my parents.
My family is from Guyana, we love Roti. My mom makes it just like this! I'm learning how to make it, to pass on our Guyanese tradition. Thank you for this video!
Loved to see your video. It is a pleasure to see how skillfully she folds the dough, rolls the roti and turns the roti on stove with bare hands. Brushing oil gives it a soft crispy texture. We in India, sometimes brush ghee or melted butter on it. But in your process tearing the roti and thumping them make them super soft. I have seen this unique style of making roti in a street side shop in Kolkata. They call it Pittai parotta, that means beaten parotta. Oil roti is a better name no doubt. 👍
Thank you for watching and enjoying. My grandmother's both used to use ghee to make roti back in the days. But in the interest of health we usually only use oil nowadays
Good.grandma. I have never seen it wrap this way. Seems much easier. Will try your method. Thanks for sharing. You learn something new every day. Stay blessed and safe grandma and family.
I had to look roti up after a character made some in a book I'm reading. I wasn't at all expecting to be reminded so strongly of my mom making tortillas. She measures the same way your grandma does, and I leaned the same way your grandma did - by watching my mama!💕 To this day, I can't really give out our tortilla recipe because I have no idea how much of anything I use. 😂
I'm trini, so you know I'm used to making paratha roti with the cone method. But I must say, this recipe and the folding method was great. The roti came out so soft. Love it. Thanks to your grandmother for showing us.
We do make these layered ones in East Africa Tanzania we don't add baking powder though we fold them differently to form layers we call them chapati yes we use oil or ghee we love them soft in Tanzania if you make them crunchy you failed the lesson 😂😂 Thanks you for sharing this recipe 😋
Beautiful. We make this in India. Guyanese moved from UP India for rubber cultivation. We do not add baking powder. You could mix the oil and flour and make it like a paste and add between 2 rounds and make four rotis at a time. But loved it as I loved grandma wrinkled hands rubbing ghee when in tava melted my heart, so homely. One more tip is we put the roti in a lunch box and shake it vigorously, to avoid holding hot rotis for beginners. Thank you once again
I have never seen that technique in folding the dohn, I like it 👍🏾💕😊 Matthew, within the last two years I had to say no to what is still one of my favorite dishes, because of a gluten intolerant, do you have or can you please come up with a gluten free roti, I will forever be greatful. 💕🎉❤️😋😋😋😘 Your Grandma's roti is one if the softest I have seen on RUclips. Tell her thanks for sharing with us.
Mmmmm mouth watering, even though I am gluten intolerant i decided i am going to make it soon :) with a delicious curry mmmyummie, so looking forward to it
Never seen that method of folding the dough! I’ll have to try that next time! Looks very soft and fluffy for sure! Missing my mama’s cooking-the older folks really do know their way around the kitchen! 👍🏼

I hardly measure as well. Lol. I usually put a bit of milk powder in mine and it yields the softest roti. Yum 😋
Lol roti is one thing that is easy enough to average the ingredients. Oh wow that sounds like a nice variation.
I will try by adding little powder milk tqs dear
