This is such a comprehensive supplement that definitely appeals to the types of players who get into Runequest, with the focus on culture and history. However I think your points are a bit of a harsh generalisation on other equipment books, given that some do great jobs of giving you other ways to interact with particular rpg systems instead of just flat stat increases.
Absolutely fair! Perhaps the generalization should be that not every equipment book appeals to every gamer. It is a supplement-style that needs investigation. The good news is that RUclips solves this problem as anyone can get a taste before they buy!
RuneQuest is the best system that has ever been created for table top gaming. ;) Detail is so imporant for our hobby and this is the sort of thing that makes it easier for GMs and players to play.
This underscores the biggest difference between Glorantha and other (lesser) settings. The drill down on everyday culture is amazing. It really does feel like a living world unlike other settings are merely a mass of semi-related combat encounters. [HARD EYE CONTACT WITH EVERY 5E MODULE I'VE SAT THROUGH.]
After playing RPG's for nearly 40 years, I'm just getting into Runequest. I appreciate the overview. This is another product that Chaosium puts out, that really just surpasses anything put out by other RPG companies. Thanks!
again, agree with the physical side and mentioned before that i too can better read it in print. Just refreshing still to hear that from a reviewer. and likewise, i have a gripe with the title too, its pretty dull and doesnt cover all the things the book gives you. a poetic title would have been better (or sth like guide to everything/this and that). and yes, thank you. the Fluff is most important or we wouldnt have that hobby hehe. I just got the first books, i will only get the next Runequest ones next year (gonna pay down my investments). but really looking forward to have this one (and the scenario books and maybe others than come out til than). plus, i have 2 kickstarters delayed both to march (email on the same day as if they agreed on it lol) it can be noted that you can get the part about crystals for free on their page at least, which is pretty fair yesh, it is nochet aeh not just a typical equipment book ;) couldnt resist

The earthly equivalents of gloranthan metals are not exact. Lo-metal is stated in the text above the picture to be red in coloration. But it is odd that there's two pictures for lo-metal but none for ur-metal (and the second one looks more like silver than iron, so I dunno if it's just a label error). I also agree with you that the hu-metal sword only seems to have a hilt of bronze. Another note about the metals is that they call sa-metal both mercury and quicksilver in different places. Yeah, I know that's the same thing, but still.
I've never played RuneQuest, but this video made me a bit curious. May I know why they use such strange names for metals? Wouldn't it be miles more intuitive to call them something like what they already are supposed to be?
Just to point out that debt slavery was absolutely a thing in the world & was around for a lot longer than US-style chattel slavery. Also slavery of captives taken in war. Many cultures had a tradition of Jubilees whereby all captives, slaves and prisoners were freed, all debts forgiven, usually every 7 years and/or on occasions of celebration like the King's birthday or suchlike. Slaves would sometimes be freed on the death of their master or gain manumission by effectively buying themselves.
