    The 3-piece punch of When Acting as a Particle, Nong Eye Gong, and When Acting as a Wave is one of the most surreal experiences I’ve had with music. It’s so hard to describe the way Particle evolves from the minimalist style to the more batshit crazy riff-heavy sounds of Wave. It’s like Nong Eye Gong is the lit match that is thrown onto Particle that makes Wave sound as it does. Insane musicianship

    This is the album with the best flow in DEP’s discography. All of the transitions are so smooth! These songs just sound right together! And I’m sure Gil Sharone’s presence behind the kit contributed to that.

    • @TheMetalAllfather
      @TheMetalAllfather 3 года назад +3

After checking out a couple of their songs online, I managed to find this album in a used CD store shortly afterwards. It has been in heavy rotation on my playlists for the past decade, and I can't help but listen through the rest of the album whenever a song comes on. This is easily one of my favorite albums ever.

    Ire Works is full of ideas and in my opinion much more original than Miss Machine. Miss Machine is the first step, Ire Works its evolution. The last five tracks are simply sublime: a mix of blasting rage, melody and atmosphere.

    • @InTheDecay
      @InTheDecay 8 лет назад +1

      +Kyle Benson completely agree. Miss Machine is terrible but it isn't their best at all. Even the more calm One of Is the Killer is better than Miss Machine imo. It's just more completely and really well prepared.

    • @dclarkmusic
      @dclarkmusic 7 лет назад +7

      Carlo Cantisani I just can't get into the production on anything miss machine and earlier. I think Dillinger benefits from a clear, concise sound. The muddier the production gets, the less enjoyable the music is for me. That's what turns me off to other noisy bands - I can't even tell if their songs are well written, because I can't hear anything. That being said, I think ire works is their best album for sure.

    • @shredder213
      @shredder213 7 лет назад +3

      IMHO Miss Machine is THE definitive DEP album. Ire Works is a solid 2nd. Calculating Infinity I never really got into....it certainly did it's job announcing DEP as a bold new presence but I think their songwriting improved a lot afterwards.

    • @evildave2136
      @evildave2136 7 лет назад +7

      shredder213 Caculating Infinity was a fucking game changer in music. The Patton e.p was astounding....I remember being pissed off with the more melodic chorus parts in Miss Machine. I wasn't really a fan of the singer.. but I stuck with them and now think he'amazing. I think him taking a shit on the stage at the Reading Festival changed my mind about him...! I prefer him live than on record I think. As a band, they'll be missed. Absolute carnage as a live band too. Astounding band.

    This was the peak of the band, their creativity and adventurousness is off the charts while still retaining all the energy of their early work. After this they went off the boil and never really recovered in my opinion. I saw them play live on the tour for Ire Works and 10 years later it is still the best gig I've ever been to.

    • @projectleescape2885
      @projectleescape2885 5 лет назад +3

      Why must there be comparisons of one over the other? Ire Works is amazing, as are Option Paralysis, OoUItK, Miss Machine, and Dissociation - although it admittedly gets me teary eyed by the end. Ire Works is top for me, but everything from the Greg era is gold.

    • @gus26_77
      @gus26_77 5 лет назад +2

      Well, if we're truly to say, one of their albums is "mediocre", that goes for the debut, everything they've done with Greg on board, is an evolution of the previous record, respectively. So, I think Dissociation is their best, even though all the cds are masterpieces, practically! This is merely a personnal opinion, but I guess that it expresses the majority of the listeners anyway. :p

    supposedly the original vocalist is featured on Fix Your Face but i cant really hear him unless its him and greg screaming at the same time. Anyone know what part he comes in at?

    I love TDEP but... I don't know, this record never convinced me at all.
    The overall quality of the musicians has risen, without any doubt, but, all in all, seems that something was lost in some of the songs here, something that is no more Dillingerous, compared to Miss Machine; I take this last one record because in Ire Works they seemed to develop some of Miss Machine ideas, imo: just to make an example, FIx your Face, Black Bubblegum, Milk Lizard for me are twin songs of Panasonic Youth, Unretrofied and Setting Fire to Sleeping Giant but in a "bad" way.
    Still there are good and original songs just like Lurch, Party Smashers and Horse Hunter, just like ol' TDEP.
    If I have to put some votes to this and the records before: The Mullet Burden 7/10, Calculating Infinity 8.5/10, Irony is a Dead Scene 8.5/10, Miss Machine 7+/10 and Ire Works 6+/10.
    Don't get me wrong, is just my personal opinion.

      I was a freshman in high school when this album came out. At the time, I only liked Milk Lizard and Black Bubblegum. In retrospect, those are great accessible tracks for getting into the band from outside the realm of mathcore.

      @@WarHero56 I recame deeply into TDEP in 2016 circa when I discovered Calculating Infinity (I knew them since I was 16 beacuse of PS game Raw vs. Smackdown 2006 and everytime I was looking forward Unretrofied started to play), then I discovered Irony, Miss Machine and the rest of the records. Honestly, I've never fell in love with "the rest of the records" for the same reasons I wrote down in the first comment, in particular One of Us is The Killer; I think in Dissociation they have regained a little bit their original savage and especially weird nature.
