Y‘know, for the fact that they rebooted the series a second time now, they really couldn’t have done anything actually new and unique with the characters? Cyrax and Sektor basically still play the exact same role except genderswapped and with accents. They made the radical decision of making Kuai Liang Scorpion, but just copypasted Hanzo‘s entire origin story on him and called it a day, wasting every actual cool potential that decision had including Bi Han just being the evil brother again. So instead of making Kuai Liang Noob Saibot as an ironic twist, they just made him Bi Han again.
The worst part is, there are characters that show a great new take on the character like Reptile, Baraka, Kenshi & Johnny and Mileena, but then you get sloppy works for most of the other characters.
I agree with everything except one thing, the new take on Johnny Cage. He is the same again. And they are basically telling the path of the hero for Johnny for the third time. (maybe more).
@@mstevensh that’s why i combined Johnny and Kenshi because instead of having a romance story with Sonya again, this time it’s Johnny and Kenshi becoming great friends and building respect to one another + Johnny has a deeper origin story too with him being married and now divorced. And as a cool little extra point, no green powers whatsoever, meaning he might not be the god-slayer he was in the previous timeline.
I don't mind Shao's and Reiko's take, but yeah, most of the characters are just copypasted with rarely any alterations

In the old Midway games, he was actually a pretty cool headed and cool general of Shao Kahn who was somewhat supposed to be Shao Kahn‘s replacement, but also secretly planned to backstab Shao Kahn too. He seemed like a guy with actual interesting potential.
In MKX, we know it was him who created the rules everyone follows to keep a stable relationship between all the realms.
In MK1, he‘s the quintessential goon who is following the bugger bad guy and everyone beats him up.

Did Kuai get killed by Bi-Han? And lose his family to him? Become a vengeful spirit? No. No he did not.
I'm not too plugged into the MK universe, but I always love seeing the doods get together for some MK story mode nonsense. This was a fun watch!

@@ScorchZane different bi han different timeline brodi, if we go back to mythology bi han, that whole thing was admirable but cringe as all hell.(I like it for what it is and I still play it on my N64) And remember sub and scorpion switched from neutral good and neutral evil and it reversed as sub was more neutral good and is now neutral evil. And for Scorpion it was neutral evil to good.

From the start, the story's just been flimsy excuses to get the characters to turn each other inside out
Honestly, I don’t expect an incredible story from fighting games. They exist so characters can beat the hell out of each other. People buy it for the fun, not for the story.

There’s a lot of misinformation being spread in this comment section, so I want to help prevent the spread of it. Warning that I will mention some intros and post Khaos Reigns stuff, since it is connected to this.
Old timeline Cyrax was from Botswana, but New Era Cyrax is from Nigeria (specifically the Air Mountains are where the Zaki, a sub family of the Lin Kuei, are based.) Sektor’s family consists of former Master Armorer Longwei, Madam Bo, and Sektor has some siblings. Seemingly the meta reason why they made Cyrax and Sektor women, is because Cyrax and Sektor’s relationships with the brothers are deeper than before (Cyrax had a relationship in the past with Kuai Liang and may replace Jacqui as Takeda’s love interest, while Sektor’s in love with Bi-Han and he has feelings for her as well, which both of their feelings of love manipulate their decisions in the story) and not because they didn’t have enough female characters in. Cyrax and Sektor are just codenames like all Lin Kuei assassins (Johnny asks if Sektor is her real name and it’s pretty clear that it’s not.) Genderbending isn’t new for MK1 or MK11, as Madam Bo is meant to be Bo Rai Cho in the New Era and female Fujin and Nightwolf are in their respective Tower Endings of MK11 (Raiden also has a sister in MK1, which could be Fujin or the theory that she is a take on Amaterasu.)
WB is responsible for MK9-12, they didn’t start with this MK (NRS wrote Jax and Fujin’s Tower Endings in MK11 along with everything else and they are also canon via the multiverse.) A side note is that Longwei is coming out of retirement, Sektor is not the Lin Kuei in Sub-Zero’s Tower Ending because her uniform is red, and the Lin Kuei still follows Noob and are ok with his methods, but Madam Bo is secretly crying (Kung Lao found out) that her daughter is going down a dark path. It seems Cyrax’s wish from MK11 came true and while she has technology to assist her in combat, Cyrax escaped becoming a cyborg and is now part of the Shirai Ryu and helping train Hanzo (Liu Kang instructed her to train him.) Sektor and Bi-Han’s love is mutual, even when he becomes Noob (when he found out Shang tried to capture her, he got angry, despite her being unharmed and other intros with Kenshi and some others directly mention their relationship.) Also, regarding the Lin Kuei codenames, MK9’s Kuai Liang was Tundra and Sub-Zero was passed to him and if Frost inherits the name, it would be a similar situation (in this New Era, Cryomancy in the Lin Kuei of China is genetic and why Smoke had to learn minor smoke magic, which would debunk young Hanzo from Japan becoming Sub-Zero.)

People cannot grasp
Sektor, and Cryax are codenames for the units/suits not the person or entity inside the suit as multiple have been made, and most of the concepts in mk1 are very consistent in mk lore.

I do like they’re not straight up gender bent but instead the next warriors to take the names of Sektor and Cyrax.
Also Max & Friends calling them robots when they’re cyborgs is like DBZ calling the cyborgs androids.

Sektor, and Cryax aren't gender bent.
Those are code names for the units that not the characters ACTUAL NAME.
Also they aren't cyborgs either, those are Suits.
That's kinda why the old cyber protocol was an issue because, you were giving away your free will.

Sektor, and Cryax story was pretty decent, and gave the Lin Kuei Legitimate reason to dislike earthrealm.
Old Sektor story in general was VERY rushed.

I haven’t seen the full story yet. But a lot of people have been pretty harsh about it.

Dude street fighter 6 year 2 dlc is 40$ characters and color's with each character need 4 month to be released and if you want 2 new stages that will be 50$ same with tekken mk1 like or not dlc add a lot of things

This "Scoprion" stole actual Scorpions waifu. Remember, this ain't Hanzo here, this is the second Sub-Zero. Hanzo actually is in this new universe, but he's a kid, shows up in like Scorpion's ending.

I think I’ll probably be done with Mortal Kombat after that lackluster expansion. I’ll probably still grind for skins, but when I stop playing MK1, NRS are gonna be hard pressed to get me back on board.
It has nothing to do with Cyrax and Sektor btw, the story overall was just very lousy

I am watching a scene between an alternate Tanya and Rain and I think they wanted me to feel something there but I don’t know those people lol

I blitzed through it. I was on haviks side to be honest though. You can't have mortal Kombat in a world of peace.
I love the story I just wish it was more. Havik has always been my favorite especially from the comics so I was beyond excited. It’s just disappointing how short it is. It could have been amazing except it feels rushed. There’s very neat throw backs to previous entries. I just wanted more Havik causing Chaos.
Honestly. This entire DLC was pointless. And the final fight was so underwhelming. But i have to admit. All 3 Noob, Cyrax, Sektor (especially her) are the most fun they ever been.

I don’t get the gender swap thing, if you want more female representation in the game that’s dope, just add existing women, Jade,Sareena,Skarlet etc. Changing up fan favorites just ain’t it, I been waiting for my boy cyrax to return since mk9 and I get slapped with this pretender.

I don't think it's necessarily a female representation thing. I think it's mostly a new design direction for the characters following the reboot after MK 11, like how Reptile has a human form and Tarkat is a disease. It's not like Sektor and Cyrax being male was an essencial part of their characters, anyway.

I thought that as well. Maybe some African dialects would just tackle English like that, but from all the African accents I've heard, I don't see any reason Cyrax should talk so slowly. It's not like she's the struggling with the language.
Honestly, as someone born in South Africa, I can say not all Africans who speak English sound that slow and all that “African”, but most I've met tend to have more of a British accent.
(I went to a private school in South Africa and Botswana (where Cyrax is from), so im not 100% sure. 💀 If im being honest, she sounds like she is trying to be in black panther movie)

I know. I just thinking the writing sucks. The designs of the robo chicks look cool and they need to just deal with it. They'll be dudes again later if people liked it or not. MK is just a what-if/multiverse story without any weighted story now. Gameplay will always come first over anything else

repeating the exact same fight multiple times on multiple separate occasions for no reason, the rate at which the main beats are rushed through and brushed past, half of the story mode being characters that we have literally no background for (alt rain/tanya), the fact that it just kinda *ends* with no fanfare... my expectations were low but holy hell
