If anybody wants to travel from Bengaluru to Mysuru, the best route is take Mangaluru NH, travel till Bellur cross and then take left to reach Mysuru via Nagamangala, Melukote, Pandavapura, Srirangapatna. I have been using this road for the last 20 years due to lot of speed breakers and heavy traffic on the Mysuru Bengaluru road. The road mentioned here is toll road till Bellur cross and the road from there till Srirangapatna is fantastic. It's 60 kms more than the normal route but you can reach outskirts of Bengaluru in 2 and half hours from Mysuru. Once you are into Bengaluru, you take Nice road and reach different places or inner ring road to reach Hebbal, KR Puram etc.

I don't know if you have used it. Though Mysuru to Bengaluru road is 4 lane, heavy traffic, countless road humps and erratic driving by many cutting lanes at high speeds put us to lot of stress, mental strain and if your car is a manual one without automatic transmission, your knees go for a toss. It warrants undisturbed attention to drive and one can't indulge in talking to his friends or who soever are traveling with him in the car which would be rather boring during our pleasure trips. The road which I mentioned is free of all such risk factors and though the road from Srirangapatna to Bellur cross is not 4 lane, it is pleasure to drive and potentially safe. It's really worth that extra 60 odd kms without losing any time.

We had been to Ooty just 20 days back and had the same experience of heavy rain on the first day with temperature dipping to 11 deg C. So we visited the thread garden (which is indoors) only on the first day. Second day weather was better and we finished the rest of the sightseeing places and travelled to Coonoor by the toy train which was a good experience. Ooty is famous for its chocolates and bakeries especially cookies.

I like so much this place travelling from Bandipur to ooty and ooty to Kotagiri, I use to visit 2 or 3 times to this place every year. I have travel from my bike, car and Bus. Enjoy every time.
