Easy way to tidy up the corners so they're rounded is to use a 10mm drill bit. Come in 5mm from either edge use a centre punch and drill a 2mm pilot hole so the 10mm drill bit doesn't wonder then angle grind up to the drill holes so you have rounded corners.
By far the best institution vid on RUclips, I'm attempting my own vent fit next weekend , this helped alot , thank you.
Finally someone with a brain. I've seen like 15 videos on DIY hood vents and everyone has used tape to "hold" the vents down lol My head kept shouting, put weight on it. Good job. 👍
And for all those asking about rain being an issue...the placement of the vent makes a difference, obviously dont put it directly above an air filter thats open or something..but you can grab a couple sheets of HYDROPHOBIC MESH (like used on ATVs/Motorcycles/AirFilters)...add it underneath and then rain wont pour in.
Great job looks nice
did you put the under-hood (bonnet for y'all across the pond lol) protectant fabric back on? I'm doing this likely this week (my vents are slightly thinner but a good bit longer and I'll have to cut into a little bit of the structural support)...But I'm going to get the holes cut then put the fabric back on, then cut them out. Its a good thing for the heat/protectant plus if you run an open top air filter (like the RS) is uses that fabric to seal in the filter.
looks good though, i second the eye protection and even gloves. Ive had countless metal burrs cut me pretty good so even when filing I'll be using gloves lol
You have the best looking MK3 mate!
Nice video!
Very informative. I'm gonna fit mine over the weekend. This helped alot great job 👍
Beautifully done 👍🏼 , Good job 👏🏻
Great simple and easy video to follow.
How are you going to deal with the issue now water and dirt can get into the engine bay easily?
Well done bro, you did a good job.
I've just ordered mine.
Such an easy and cheap mod that makes loads of difference.
Thanks man! Hope your fitting goes well :)
Another setting out option is make a cardboard template to fit tightly inside the bonnet support frame, where you want to cut and tape on(use an old cereal box or with masking tape mask the perimeter exactly then overlap each strip by 50% until the entire area is covered). Predrill the 4 corners with 1/8 or 3mm drill bit as per thumper 124cc. Peel off cardboard/tape template, turn over and stick on opposite side of bonnet. Mark out drill holes with a punch/pencil then drill 3mm holes through bonnet skin then the 10mm holes. Then using those holes tape from the outside of one hole to the next to mark out the vent opening cut lines.
I agree, also a good method 👍
Thanks for sharing. I will be using this video to help guide me through my install. Well done!!
well done for having the balls to do it.subscribed to your channel now
just come across this vid thinking about doing it myself have you had any issues with rain as the vent is right above your cold air intake?
Did the rain get into the engine? Was there any problems?
Brilliant vid, will defo do my own
Superb job. Well done. Inspired me to do mine. Fingers crossed
Great video , and yes I will try mine because of you cheers mate !!!!! ( ps it’s not on the Porsche In my pic!)
Would removing the bonnet after marking up not be the safest way to avoid damage on the paintwork whilst cutting?
Yeah, removing the bonnet would make the job easier and safer... just a pain to remove it
nice, going to run these on my side skirts ive got built. Wanted to see the install ty
Great video mate, thanks for sharing
No problem buddy, hope you find it useful!
I am gonna get a scoop to my stock bonnet too... it looks awesome on yours... been for 2 years...or water problem so far? if on the raining day ... any problem?
Thanks. No problems with water as the grilles inside help
Great diy video man! I just bought mine. Just a question though, is it legal? I mean, technically it’s compromising the structure of the body. Do i need to register this somewhere?
Did you have to do anything to waterproof any electrical connections underneath the vents for when it rains?
Good video lad! Just did my own thanks to you and this video
Looks good. Can understand you being apprehensive before cutting a perfectly good bonnet. I think they look good but with most other comments, concerns about water ingress.
Why out the hole ontop of your induction if it rains it’s not gonna be good for the Halfords special
Thanks for the confidence
How do you know where to actually place them in the first place.. I want to do mine following this video
It's all down to personal preference. Just got to decide what looks best on your car and make sure there's no obstructions on the underside
Love the video mate 👍 just a quick question on the front bumper…. Where did you get it from 🤔
Fantastic results
Thanks buddy!
How about water, snow, dirt getting in the enginge bay?
Where did you get the rs bumper and how did you get it to fit?!
How does the car manage under rain. With the vents ?
Is that the Maxton RS bumper for the mk3 ST?
How do you keep rainwater out of the engine??
I don't.. hasn't been an issue yet haha
F20Sam lmao, nice to see honesty. Has it been an issue since then?
Hi tell how is work with rain water don’t go to engine bay on electrical stuff
I know it's obvious but check position isn't going to foul any bonnet bracing and consider where rain will settle through the vents when parked up. I would have used gloves while cutting too.
The water that goes through,
What's the effect on the engine
Should put under bonnet vent plates to make it look better underneath but good job
Those wents let rain in. Is it no problem?!
How did you remove the marker pen and paint pen from the bonnet?
I didn't put marker pen on the bonnet? The paint pen was the cut line 👍
hello sir where to buy
Nice vid mate. Where did you get the vents from?
hi there maybe you can help me i fitted the same bonnet vents as you have they small blisters on them from engine heat they are uv protected from the sun but not engine heat thanks...
Wow bro! Work of art... what about water getting in??
Thanks man! Water does get in, but it hasn't been an issue as of yet
if you need to replace the bonnet vents how do recomend to removing them to rplace for some reason...
Haven't ever needed to.. tiger seal is very strong glue... may be possible to heat the glue to soften it. Be careful you don't ruin the paintwork when removing them
Well done.
PROBLEM.....where does the water go when it rains?..........engine or parts under hood will get wet???
gr8 video can i ask where you got the vents?
tony walsh ebay will do man
How they holding up, did they bend or melt
Holding up fine, no issues at all
@@samsmithrc6295 where did you get the vents from
nice job
Well done
That an rs bumper on a 13 or 14 focus st if so i wanna do it looks great
It's a 2011 Focus MK3 PFL, with a Maxton Designs RS Bumper 👌
What country is this? Because in most EU this is illegal
England 👍 Not illegal here
Just out of interest.
What's the reason for this being illegal?
@@fidodido8733 government control freaks
So what happens if it rains
Superb job, can do mine if you want
How do you deal with rain?
Hasn't been an issue as of yet 👍
don't you use the car on rainy days? and when do you wash your car?
Were do you buy Vent Hood
What if it starts to rain?
Any issues with water in engine bay?
No problems as of yet, although the engine bay does get dirtier
FCZSAM cheers mate. I'm getting mine done by nick wiley soon diceded not to do it myself
How about when it rains?
Nice
Neat!Where got those vents?
Got them from SiCo Developments mate 👍
how to protect when the rain ?
Mesh grill is installed under the vents to reduce water passing through, hasn't caused any issues
@@samsmithrc6295 YEAH but rain is rain, when it [ours for days water will get in engine compartmemt
How about the drain? Especially when It's rainy day..
Drive faster ;) just kidding. Engines and components are water proof. Water sprays under the bonnet from the wheels anyway
@@awestruck9075 NOT really, if you are driving or engine is running in park, try spraying your engine with a water hose....steam and spray will cause fogging .......need a channeling way of keeping water off hot engine
@@fortysaginaw1512 I've not had a car built in the last 50 years be affected greatly by washing the engine. Avoid spraying the ignition components with high pressure washers but other than that nothing will happen to it. My mini used to occasionally be affected during rain but that was because the water would pass through the grill and get into the distributor at the front of the motor. The amount of steam rising from off the hot motor would be negligible. The only consideration to be made, is that key electrical components aren't directly below the vents.
Does it cause problem when it rains
Never had any problems mate
Okay..nice..because where i live at has lots of rain and i wanna try installing those too
This guy sounds like he's from El Paso.
Does the British accent and the El Paso accent sound the same? 😂
I'm from el paso. You know el paso?
why not take the hood off, bonnet, sorry. Looks good though. What about rain, the vent is right over your pod filter.
Nice can you be RUclips friends 🙏
No actually I need you to fit them for me . How much 😎
should have gone to nick wiley he,s the man for that a real pro.. you should have fitted a stainless plate under the vents to cover the cuts looks 10 times better..
Why... when I can do it myself?
Why not cover the inside the engine I could see you rubbing down and all going on the air filter🤔 Great video by the way👍
Looks very fake
