Even with a TAS, I am still impressed that you can shave this down to an hour. Usually it would take me 2-3 hours to finish this game. Sometimes my brother was able to get the Shamrock without the Dragon Egg from Grand Dizzy, so I knew that was possible or without a TAS. I find myself chuckling that's what it takes to speedrun the game: leaving Grand Dizzy to remain sick. @_@
This is the first game i rember that i use walkthrough from newspaper ;) When i first beat the game with that it was 3 hours and then i recognise if i carry more items i can done it faster and almost 1 hour.
@@fuan6420 I just tried hacking my star count lower in a Red version, and it does underflow to 255. I'm afraid to find out how the Blue version would try to render a three-digit number, though...
This actually happened to my brother. He had finally got all 100 stars for the first time. He collected the extra one that pops up and it underflowed back to 0. Softlock after hours of playing.
@@ryn2075 Yeah, it shows up as "05" or something like that, right? It seems as though this bug actually happens on the regular; I just saw it again in a new speedrun!
Yes you can definitely skip Dylan. The question is whether it's faster to catch Pogie or faster to go down the rapids for the pickaxe and bring it to the bay to get the coin, then take said coin all the way to the market.
since you don't need cheese to catch pogie in this game, it might be faster to go with that? then again, you need the pickaxe anyway because there are stars down there (if i recall correctly, i haven't even watched my own video to confirm this)
@@fuan6420 Oh yeah I forgot about the stars. I guess maybe the coin would be faster in that case unless you're already near Dylan when doing another task. Multitasking different item missions makes a TAS difficult to plan out as there are many different combinations you can try. This game also has very few exploitable glitches so it doesn't seem possible to skip much. In the 100 star version as a kid I used to get onto Blackheart's ship by touching a butterfly, walking backwards and jumping over him which makes you lose a life but brings you onto his ship without using the gold coins or the rum. I discovered it before I knew what the bag of gold coins was for.
@@RickyRockstarTNS sometimes the glitches would just discover themselves, or present themselves to you because of silly accidents :P i lowkey want to plan a new route and try redoing this tas, but it's sooo difficult to start / pick it up

a necessary sacrifice
Good job! I gonna try your strats in rt speedrun. That glitch with select is awesome! Have not heared about that before.

that's honestly quite an impressive time. i failed to finish the game back in the day of playing this on a console, sadly.
Such a great and eclectic game.
finally I saw that at the end of the game
55:39 How did the star come back?! You already got them all!!
i honestly have no clue, it's likely a glitch. i wonder what would happen if i tried collecting it

@@fuan6420 I saw the same thing happen in Zaks' castle in someone else's live play. Very mysterious...

Spiders don't hurt you, but I imagine it's a hitbox problem
that's what the select glitch does - if you open the item menu while getting damaged by most enemies, you get temporary immunity to them
@@fuan6420 wooooow cool!! Thank you for explaining!
Ah, i'm Reading thé description right Now!! Sorry!!
