    Those ASC bells sounded like WC Hayes but not in a sour tone that they have. The teardrops were amazing as always

    You’re filming all the crossings I used to try and catch 15 years ago (except I didn’t have an iPhone to record with), back when Woodward Rd (and Austin Rd for that matter) crossing was still mechanical bells. And seeing the hyper speed bell at Arthur Rd still going is amazing; it was running warped speed even back then.

    If you put it into the perspective of a fire alarm hobbyist/enthusiast, the mechanical bells are single-stroke and coded as continuous/steady

    I really miss the mechanical bells. Most of them in my region are gone. It’s one of those things I never thought much about until they were gone.

    The crossing signal at 30:08 has too short of a delay in gates going down, during initial activation. It should be at least 3 seconds of warning before lowering gates.

      @MobileRailSpotterRxR  3 года назад +3

      That crossing has been replaced fully with new signals now but the same gated masts holding the mechanisms. I haven't seen it active yet as so far each time I came the line is having shutdowns. First the whole route was dead because wildfires took out some bridges and then tried again today and the section of the line that this crossing is on was shut down for some reason.

    18:55 Which bell has the very rapid ding-ding-ding? I think this is the type Hollywood recorded for use as a sound effect in the 1930s, for decades in scenes which are set aboard a passenger train we hear the frantic bell with a pronounced doppler shift as it passes by two or three times per minute.

      Because most have been replaced in this era and to add to that on the West Coast they are pretty uncommon to find unless you are on a shoreline railroad and there barely some even on the shoreline railroads.
