      Could have had a channel with successful videos just by doing a bit like that (holding two mice like maracas or turning the mouse upside down and hitting it with their forehead, etc). Just playing a character who thinks he's nailing it while either dying over and over or blatantly unpausing Windows Movie Maker and pretending to try to hide it.

      I love how he treat's each run like he knows this is going to be the one - like the head nod before the attempt. Like did he do that cool head nod at every one of the 2 million attempts?
      Honestly though, good for him. I certainly think this is more interesting than just being another guy who is good at some dumb game. Maybe the meta for gaming at these random nothing games should be more about cheating successfully than about beating the game. Maybe we should stop celebrating lonely people sitting there burning electricity running through level 1 of some random NES title for 3 years straight in order to gain a couple frames - like that's flagrant mental illness IDK

    • @anomaly3215
      @anomaly3215 14 days ago +8

      @hansolo631 bro..? all video games are arbitrary pixels on a screen 😂 "random NES title"? "m-my pixels are better than your pixels 😭" you left a wall of text with the SOLE intent of being negative, why not act like a mature adult and spend that time on a productive hobby, maybe go to the gym to improve your mental health, because how are negative walls of texts EVER going to do anything to improve your situation??

    • @NotSomeJustinWithoutAMoustache
      @NotSomeJustinWithoutAMoustache 20 days ago +6

      @shlonk The camera adjustments probably refers to Queen Pwnzalot who constantly adjusted her in-game camera while doing a blindfold speedrun, which obviously wouldn't be necessary if you were actually playing blindfolded since you wouldn't even know where the in-game camera is pointing in the first place. Karl's video on that one is titled "This FAKE Blindfold Speedrun Fooled Everyone..." The celebration dance bit is likely referring to EpicSeastar, a Jump King speedrunner who at the end of his fake speedrun played Surfin' USA and did a goofy dance to celebrate his new record. Karl made a video on it titled "The Dumbest Fake Speedrun Ever". I'm not sure about the heart rate monitor bit though, I guess I'm not unemployed enough to know yet

      @JoannaFalkowska U guys are trippin, before the adpocalypse here on yt, creators were making boatloads of cash from monetization. It wasnt about watch time then it was basically per view and if his videos were getting millions of views for every upload he was EASILY in the 6 figure a year range if not much more even if his uploads were infrequent. I hate cheaters but the guy figured out a way to make a great living for 10 plus years FAKING playing a stupid video game. U may not like it , i sure as hell dont BUT we gotta respect the hustle.

  • @GGsquared
    @GGsquared 23 days ago +600

    I think the main reason he wasn’t exposed sooner was because despite his popularity, he was isolated from the rest of the community. He was never considered a “top player” (and never received the scrutiny that most top players receive). And “beating a level blindfolded” is a niche enough achievement, at least in Geometry Dash, to the point where there isn’t a popular “list” for it. Most people are not actively trying to beat main levels blindfolded, which is why so few have done so.
    Also, the vast majority of his audience were casual/amateur players, a large amount of them being children, who would be impressed with his achievements but wouldn’t scrutinize them as much as a professional player would. His videos often spread by being recommended to people who watched other Geometry Dash videos, rather than word-of-mouth, and he was less memorable than other notable players as a result of that.

    • @CyrianT
      @CyrianT 22 days ago +18

      This and also the fact that most of these achievements don't seem impressive for an experienced player (except clubstep and the 2.2M att) so it was neglected.

    • @chasekemp6915

      Your comment makes no sense. What we see on the mouse should actually be what we see on the screen cursor. That’s the whole point of going through the effort of masking. Also, his mouse does move at the exact same time the cursor moves. I agree the movement is pretty subtle, but a man just has high sensitivity.

Geometry Dash is also a game with only one button that uses music sync and memorization, so it makes sense that people would assume he’s learned how to time and memorize his inputs over time using the music sync.

    I find blindfolded speedruns of games to be such an insane thing in the first place, that I almost always suspect cheating.

    • @yeshevishman
      @yeshevishman 23 days ago +42

      This is the issue with ACTUAL blindfolded runners...the fact that it's possible and people do it in a verified manner (and EXPLAIN their methods in ways that can be duplicated) makes it that we can't assume. I suggest looking into a recent video by Bubzia, a LEGEND in blindfold runs and what he has to say about this assumption. It's a nuanced and interesting take.

      @Valmerixhow do you know they are legit or people are just better at faking it? I just don’t find it interesting even if it was real. I want to see skillful playing not just memorizing movements.

    • @Nico2718_
      @Nico2718_ 23 days ago +17

      @bltvd boiling down blindfolded gaming to "memorised movement" is ridiculous at best (I'm not trying to criticise btw 😅): so many blindfolded strats require a lot of precise excecution and in depth knowledge of the game and the physics behaves, especially for improvised backups (which happen way more often than it seems), otherwise if it was just about remembering most of the runs would take 1 attempt 😅

Then you could try different games, encourage community interaction by catching errors, and improve your own video editing skills by incorporating the fixes and explaining them? You'd also get 10x the views since such a series could be game agnostic.

      @muffaloRUclips is actually doing this as a new feature, they’re putting comments with timestamps at the top when you’re at that timestamp. I think it’s pretty cool, you’ll usually get comments referring to the area of the video you’re watching.

    • @rat-gang-
      @rat-gang- 10 days ago

      @PurgatoryyMusic it's not particularly new tbf, they're literally phasing it out again because nobody liked it 😅 (i think mostly because it meant if you tried to open the comments, sometimes you'd accidentally skip to the timestamp you were at 30sec earlier when the comment popped up, and if a comment faded away and you tried to find it again, you'd have to scroll for AGES, so now they're rolling it back and implemented the 'Timed' section lol)

    You transformed the video quite a lot from the original, good videol! Very good point about how beats it first attempt everytime, i cannot believe no one spotted that (the original video doesn't even mention it as well). And it was hilarious what you said about him taking off and putting on his blindfold every attempt.

      I know hindsight bias and all but i would've thought these weird behavioural cues were quite obvious. The masking is a bit more technical and provides the sufficient proof but the fact that he can beat the level right after he 'locks in' is so obvious especially with the crazy amount of randomness being blind presents.

      i always just thought he got really consistent with it and is then doing the act for the video, i don't think beating the main levels blind folded is that hard (not sure though)

      @C@Cr34ky it is WAY harder than it seems. Just try stereo madness for example.

      A lot of people did find that weird, as well as the attempts-to-jump-counter discrepancy. He has been suspicious ever since his clubstep blindfolded completion, it is just that nobody bothered to actually expose him until now.

      The original video does mention this point, though it did not point out that it’s like this for every one of his videos. The original video mainly focuses on the absurdity of having an intro to every attempt for 2 million attempts

    5:35 Also worth noting most of these are levels that have reasons for having extra high attempt counts.
    #1 - VSC, one of the hardest levels in the game despite being extraordinarily short. It's all of the difficulty of something like Slaughterhouse packed into 15 seconds. Additionally, the first few clicks are some of the hardest. Both of these things cause attempts to be incredibly short.
    #2 - VSC again
    #3 - Sakupen Circles is fairly short, and gets the vast majority of its difficulty from a couple of specific sections, meaning a majority of your playtime will be spent practicing the same brief bits of the level over and over. This jam packed difficulty ends up having a similar effect to VSC, albeit slightly offset by normal attempts taking longer than normal (since you'll be getting TO those hard parts rather consistently).
    #4 - VSC again lol
