  • The Jacobin Cuckoo (Clamator jacobinus) is named for its pied black & white plumage, which resembles the black and white garments of monks belonging to the Dominican Order, who were also known as Jacobins.
The habitat of the species is mainly in thorny, dry scrub or open woodland avoiding areas of dense forest or extremely dry environments
The Jacobin Cuckoo breeds in Africa & migrates through parts of the Middle East to winters in India. It is not normally found in Singapore.
This individual likely got lost while migrating and ended up enjoying a massive feast at a caterpillar infested tree in Singapore Kallang Riverside Park from 17-18 June 2024.
Since the Jacobin Cuckoo was last sighted in Singapore in 2015, news of it's appearance attracted large numbers of birdwatchers.
Fortunately for all of us, it was so busy enjoying it's feast that it did not bother about the large number of humans surrounding the tree, all hoping for better photos & videos of it's pest control services.
We all want to know how it eats so much and often without getting fat.....
