    If the provided formula for earnings is accurate then it means that selling models online starts to work out only if you have 100s+ models... otherwise it's just pennies good for some income. It seems that most of the marketplaces sooner or later saturate the market, lower prices and they are the only one who benefit cause they are getting recognized. That is accross many digital industries. I'd suggest set up your site and sell them through one's own website, build the brand rather than relying only with marketplaces. Not saying they are good but putting all eggs to one basket doesnt seem to be right ;)

    • @Lazmiraa
      @Lazmiraa 3 года назад +1

      Also the people that benefit from this apparently also just steal your hard work. :) Like your models to sell for cheap.

    • @gorbashgaming1470
      @gorbashgaming1470 3 года назад

      @@Lazmiraa Did you see me saying anything that they steal anyone's work? No. However definitely they will saturate the market. If you were bothered to see how markeplaces work as a business model the sooner or later they saturate the market. Start small, once they build audience they will need to adapt to keep the machine going as every business they will introduce different pay models, freelancing, monthly fees. Look at other niches. Anyway, can't educate nor trying to educate everyone.

    She talks about getting views by describing the models well, which yeah is common sense, but the slide says "up to 20 relevant model tags", this really annoys me, you try and create 20 relevant tags for a model of a sausage for example, it's extremely difficult, which means that most people just throw in a few relevant tags and fill the rest up with random words, meaning the search algorithm gets thrown off and it appears in searches it shouldn't appear in, which is great for the seller, but really damned annoying for the consumer. Companies like this should limit the number of tags to say five and be done with it.

    • @winzmuc
      @winzmuc 5 лет назад +25

      You start with 70% royalty and by uploading and selling objects You get more and more "points" until You get 80% royalty. If You sell about 100 objects on two or three different platforms You can make about 90-250 $ a month. If You consider the time for modeling and creating the content for upload (export files, renderings, description, updates, etc.) it is not really good money. To make a living You would need at least 1000 high-quality objects online. Those models of course need to be relevant for the market. Nobody needs another dinosaur or an AK47.

    On her dragon example. Say it takes a week to make a u-beaut dragon. 40 hours labour for about 30 bucks an hour = $1200. I didn't see one dragon on there priced at $1200? The most expensive was originally prices at $949.00, but was only selling at 50% off at $474.00. The purchaser isn't getting 50% of a model!!! Somebody worked their heiny off to build that. Fine if you want to work for $10 an hour... Art is a creative industry, and these buyers are getting a 'steal' on creativity at those prices. You could empty rubbish bins for more than that an hour.

    • @joshkelly844
      @joshkelly844 4 года назад +1

      You have to understand more than 1 person can buy this model though, even if you sell the dragon for $500, if more than 4 people buy it you've made your money. Then it's still on the store for more as passive income

    • @yobeenocreative6984
      @yobeenocreative6984 4 года назад +2

      @@joshkelly844 Yes I do see your point. The sales model is beneficial to artists only when there is multiple sales. That's the risk as a creator I guess.
      And it doesn't stop the creator from creating miniatures of the Dragon and other revenue in the meantime... I just would hate for artists to get the short end of the stick.

    • @SoulGuitarMetal
      @SoulGuitarMetal 4 года назад +3

      It's no different from any other product-based business. You spend your own resources to develop a product then sell it for much less but multiple copies. Unlike movies and AAA games tho, you don't have big advertising prior to release so it will take time to earn more than the investment (You should post-marketing in social networks tho). Still, it's much better to profit 500,00 four times in a year for the same work than 1200,00 a single time on the first day. The effort and expertise it takes are the same for both. I'm sure a good "rubbish bin cleaner" earns more if he starts selling new bins for many clients instead. That's why quantity is key. If you upload one or two models per year, it will take forever to profit. If you keep releasing new models, eventually, your passive income will reach your hourly rate. That's my goal so I can stop freelancing and switch 100% to creating and selling online. If you ever did a personal project for portfolio, you already have experience creating your own product. Sell it instead of letting it lying around, that's how I started.

    • @Jez2008UK
      @Jez2008UK 2 года назад

      That's a crazy post. It's like saying an artist makes a song, and dang it, the first person who bought it only paid $5 for it. By your logic, the first buyer of that song should pay $100,000......

    The reason foe CEO/Founder/Manager being top is nothing to do with companies, it's because 99% of the one man hobiest 3D "artists" think they look better than they if they call themselves a studio and give themselves a big title.
    As to gaps in the market, i agree mostly, but be careful not to fall into the "gap in the market" trap, where the gap you find is extremely niche and the reason the gap's there is because almost nobody wants it, not because people aren't making it.

      Does anyone actually know what the heck they are talking about. You are dumb. I use cgtrader all the time to buy models. I also use Turbosquid and first started used them but now they are my least preferred. I prefer cgtrader now for many reasons. a) they are generally cheaper, b) you can *offer* a price if it's out of your budget and see what the artist says. c), the models are generally better than Turbosquids and finally, most importantly, it appears that since Turbosquid was acquired by Adobe, their Licencing terms have gone to being unusable. Literally everything you see on Turbosquid is on an educational licence, meaning you cannot use it for something commercial. That doesn't work for me.....
