I've been a huge fan of Richard Barbieri since his early days with Japan. This is stunningly beautiful and he has been creating marvelous arrangements for decades now. Just love this.
On the keyboard and sound design side of things there are many influences in my life but the two most important ones are Brian Eno and Richard Barbieri. As someone said simply sublime
I love Buying New Soul on Porcupine Tree's album Recordings (maybe a compilation of non-album tracks but I like it better than several of PT'albums released after In Absentia), an dnow we hear the original of the track... Very mysterious and moving. I do wish those Variant albums would be available on CD....
Never knew of The Variants' until recently. Not as abstract as his non variant material which i love. But there is solemnness n both to these variants through elongated piano notes as time is stretched in both directions as the atmospherics kick in between each verse of orchestrated notes and scaling up and down on the piano and synthesizers. Beautiful music Richard!!
When the world crumbles, when the structures of a civilization falter, it is good to return to that which in history does not flex, but on the contrary recovers courage, gathers the separated, pacifies without bruising. It’s worth recalling that the genius of creation is also moving in an history devoted to the destruction 💥
Can you translate in English please? I checked 'dope' in the Oxford English dictionary and it has mainly negative connotations. On the other hand 'af' is not even a word. Cheers.
I had the same thought, came down to comment and it was the first post. Given the title of the song and the album, clearly intentional. Nice stuff nonetheless.
But it IS the music that was used on the splendid track Buying New Soul by Porcupine Tree, on Recordings, which is credited to all four members for once, like a number of other tracks there, that features some improvisations, i guess. Now we have Richard Barbieri's own contribution (or a part of it) for the song.
This feels therapeutic
This is utterly sublime. Sad and comforting at the same time. Desolate yet cozy. Supremely beautiful.
La sintesi delle sensazioni di un sogno. Grazie Richard. Paola
this song heals on so many levels.

When the remaining members reform on maybe a final world tour? I’m there …totally, mentally and physically.

I should have sold out when the devil came for me
I love your creative stuff man!! Cheers, Jeroen Simons, Independent, ex - Epica.
It sounds a lot like a reprise of Porcupine Tree's "Buying new soul".

Hi friend
Porcupine Tree > Recording : ' O
Più passa il tempo, più mi convinco che l'anima dei Japan fosse lui e non David Sylvian.

That's unheard of in RUclipsland, but this guy does it.
