Hi Chris. I am in Houston and have been without power since Monday. I live in a condo building with 3 floors. I have a bottom floor unit with a patio. I bought a generator just for times like this as I need to keep medicine cold and myself and pets safe from the heat. My HOA is now trying to fine me 350 for using my generator. Heat related deaths are climbing but I cannot have a generator. I am a lawyer and I intend to fight their abject stupidity. Houston is strong but we are storm exhausted. I was without power for 5 days during the storm last month. I just purchased a larger jackery power station to try to alleviate the issues but stay prepared for the season. I do not know which is worse hurricanes or HOAs

I'm so very sorry that you're going through this. You sound like you have a really good head on your shoulders. Stay strong. ✨
Just a thot: If you're using a window unit ac it's obvious to the HOA that you have a generator. Portable, indoor ac units on wheels work really well for keeping one room cool enough to live in, and they're very quiet. Although you do have to vent it to the outside, it's still less conspicuous than a window unit. If you don't have one you might want to check it out - I have one and it's been a godsend - I live in FL. And thumbs up on the Jackery.✨

I’m in south Houston and went 4.5 days in sweltering dangerous heat without power. We just got it back on but many still don’t have it. I run an animal rescue and my kitties would have died if it weren’t for my oupes. The room was 90 degrees when I turned on the window ac unit that I had to go buy since I’m in central air
This hurricane really pointed out the holes in my preps. I realize I need multiple solar generators to rotate and re-charge. Also that we go through a lot more water when you are dealing with 100 degree weather that included water for your pets too. Also the fact that once it’s dark out you are SO bored with no phone, no internet nothing! You just sit there twiddling your thumbs. Make sure you have books and cards and board games!
What a nightmare but it could have been worse!
    Keep prepping
Note: for those with gas generators let me just say no power no gas pumps and those that had their own generator the gas ran out after you sit in a line of 50 people to get 10 gallons (because they limit it)

Just get a duel fuel generator and store propane - much easier to store than gas. Cheap and I can store several large tanks in my shed, which could get me a week of usage, easily. I live in Alaska and we lose power fairly often, sometimes while it’s below zero outside. I’m going to get one of the battery systems as well, but not as a primary power source. It’ll be used to power items while my generator is shut down and I’ll recharge it by running my generator later on. Anyways, good luck with everything

Power just came back on 30 minutes ago. We’ve had water for a couple of days but under a boil order. Food trucks various entities (Red Cross, etc.) have only just arrived and started serving. People here have been hurting but due to our prep efforts, we were able to ride this out fairly comfortably - whole house generator for power, emergency water supplies for drinking/cooking and a year’s worth of canned and frozen food. Being prepared made the difference between being miserable and hungry and surviving in relative comfort. Thanks for your advice.

Focused on personal fitness, and getting ready for a yard sale and taking books to sell at the used book store. Some think we should never stop prepping, but when one has dry foods in mylar, canned foods, and freeze dried as well as a fridge and freezer full. And, items necessary for everyday life. And, a DIY hydroponic system awaiting assembly, medicines and medical needs up to date, electric tools and manual, bicycles, electric bike, generators and solar panels, and RV sorted, sewing and carpentry needs, the means to make cleaning issue, camping gear and the like, think I'm covered. I'd like to have chickens but barely eat an egg or two occasionally and already have dried eggs, and other unmentioned items.

Im in Houston and just got hit by Hurricane Beryl, the third in my life as an adult. Thank you for your channel and helping me learn more to prep better for my family. I got into prepping about 15 years ago. When I found your channel a few years ago, it really helped me level up and think about things at a broader systematic level, from having more supplies and more tools, to having better plans and layouts and having skills to survive and function and replenish even after 6 months of shtf when stored supplies eventually run out. And always tryong to learn more and do better. We didnt get power back until the end of the 4th day luckily after hurricane beryl, many neighbors will enter day 5 with no power. Even though I bought my generator in 2021 after the houston snowstorm, and always tested it to make sure it worked and was ready every year leading up to this storm, and even thinking I was smart for buying a dual genereator that runs off of propane or gasoline, i learned that i didnt calculate how long it lasts. I learned a propane tank lasts about 6 hours, but pleasentaly i learned 8 gallons of unleaded gas lasts me about 14 hours on my 12 kw generator. Luckily I had 4 propane cans and about 35 gallons of gas.I also planned out putting it under my covered gazeebo 20+ feet away away from the house so it could run protected from weather but far enough away not to carbon monoxide poison anyone. Luckily we didnt have a boil notice, but i still stored 40 gallons of water in advance of the storm with 3 months of food. Im always trying to improve my plans and learn more. I often like tonrewatch your videos on the first 90 days of shtf to remoid and reinforce my prep updates.Thank you again for your channel. 19:13

Most people don't take anything seriously. We live in Houston and I'm now following this channel and others as a result of Beryl. We've been lucky in past storms and either havent been without power long or at all. However, now we have a 2 year old son and we lost power for 3 days. Last time I want to deal with that - starting out with an Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultra that should be here next week along with a 400W solar panel (for now we want to keep the fridge up, a small ac unit or heater and other small appliances). I plan to expand more this year or next because it's just a matter of when we have another loss of power and not if. This channel and others have helped lean me in that direction.

Then why did Phoenix approve building if 2 huge Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing facilities - each of which use nearly a TRILLION gallons of water per year to create these semiconductors? Why would you build it where there is a water crisis? Any chance that all of it will fall apart when they run out of water? 🤔 Or is it possible that the water crisis isn’t as serious as the climate hawks scream?

It's going to continue to get worse for Americans until Americans put a end to the foreign owned and run Washington DC criminal enterprise taking every penny they can steal, put Americans in debt for to fund Washington DC and israels wars, bullying ,invading other country's. The majority of Americans I don't think can comprehend why America is being invaded at the rate it is today, last few years. It's because Washington DC and israel stepped up their invasions, slaughter of foreigners, theft of land, bullying, invading of other country's. It's embarrassing to me to hear other Americans saying things like all those Palestinians, muslims need to go back home when the only reason most are here is because israel had Washington DC bring them here as refugees while they invade their countrys. Americans that's crying over muslims, Palestinians fighting back against the invasion of their country by Washington DC, israel while they do nothing but whine while America is invaded. It literally turns my stomach. The houthis wouldn't be attacking those ships if not for what Washington DC and israel is doing. Americans are suffering because of the traitors, democrats and Republicans in Washington DC and israel. That's a fact

Howdy again from the SE suburbs of Houston. We lost power for 13 hours when Beryl hit (the 5 am wake up call no one wanted) and then again *today* for a few more hours just from a brief heavy rain! The infrastructure here is a joke. Many surrounding neighborhoods have been without electricity since day one in the boiling heat. My best friend finally gave up and retreated to visit family in New Orleans. You *know* it's bad when you have to evacuate to a place that's 8 ft below sea level. So many people wrote off preparing for this storm because it was "just a Category 1". Now they're cropping up on NextDoor with conspiracy theories that it was actually a higher level and "we were lied to" lol. I'm relieved to say our worst damage was a fallen tree that took out part of the back fence. If you can, it's better to be over-prepared. Stay informed and stay safe, y'all.

Northern Indiana we receive 8+ inches. We did sandbags around our basement windows. Worked well. Our area is a flood zone. The city refuses to put in a wider storm drain. The street drains down to our end and floods our cul de sac.. so thru all of our issues in our end of the street (electric, water system, the city won’t address the issues) , we have learned to plan .

It is almost as bad as New Orleans and the government and utilities companies neglect the infrastructure on top of that, making it a perfect storm type situation. Electricity should not have been off for this long due to a cat one hurricane. It is unbelievable. Centerpoint Energy has enabled this fiasco by their mismanagement of resources and emoloyees and monetary greed. But we wont hear much about that. Instead it will be blamed on climate. A category one, folks!!

I was camping with my daughter earlier this week in central Ontario, Canada when we were hit with continuous heavy rain falls (remains of Beryl) that flooded our camping site. Far from life-threatening, but definitely a lesson learned.
