Hey Luca I remember you were the coach at Newport beach when I was playing those UTR matches around New Year this year. Good to see you playing man you look great! take care
After I seen you hit, well you hit the ball like I do big bad and nasty. Keep in mind that running all around hitting inside out with the forehand all the time will get you more tired as that is a physically demanding shot to do. It will tire you out quickly within hours in the match. You want to use that sparingly so you don't get too tired. You have a normal backhand slice that drops the ball in about 4-6 metres inside of the baseline a little past the service line which is still good, but it sometimes also pops the ball up high in the air so I think you are missing that big deep low flat penetrating slice drive that drops the ball in just only a few feet to a couple of metres inside of the baseline that digs up into people's legs and shoelaces and pushes them backwards on the baseline because of the depth and the pace and the skid.. Because I do that all the time to the club players and they hate that type of low deep skidding ball that goes more deeper into the court. Because I do that with pace. Swing with no brakes with that buggy whip forehand, well I do like your idea because i do the same as what you're doing swing with no brakes on but I only do that if the ball keeps clicking in the court. When it comes to the serve I have no brakes if the ball is clicking in but i do put on the brakes if the ball starts missing.
Lucas uses the Nadal buggy whip forehand. That's why hes dangerous. He hits the forehand with tight spin with like I do that's why he hits those big crosscourts. The club players don't like those big fast crosscourts.
WoW! This was the first player (that I recall) that had several love service games against, Hermont. *Lucas is the real deal.* You can tell he's not in prime shape, (would love to see that version of him) but none the less, he gave Hermont a run for his money! A re-match between these 2 is a definite *MUST!* Looking forward to it!!!
Insane intensity made me hold my breath during many points, more like this please. Hermont obviously has vast match experience, the way he organised his game and neutralised his opponent bit by bit is simply amazing.
Lucas is a big hitter of the ball. So its nothing new for me to see a power display from him for I do this same stuff down at my club to blast all the club players. Lucas uses the swing backhand. I use both the swing backhand and also the push backhand that Freedman been teaching his players to use. When it comes to the slices I like to keep the ball down low in the court rather than pop the ball up high in the air. As I know what happens if you pop the ball up high in the air on your slice, and it falls weak and short in the court, someone always comes along and crushes it. That's why I don't like sending up slow high floaters when it comes to slices on both wings.. Lucas don't have that big slice that stay always down low in the court for his backhand slice sometimes does unfortunately pops the ball up high and weak in the air or it winds up going the wrong direction sailing up and out of the court into the back fence. So hes not as solid on the slice as he is on his forehand. But he is strong on that reverse forehand. hes dangerous on that forehand. He does have some difficulty dumping the serves returns down into the net making mistakes because of trying to take full swings at the serve when he don't always have enough time to do the full swings so he gets jammed and cramped up with the ball as he is a big guy and takes a little bit longer for him to get his body out of the way of the incoming ball... This is why i use that little push drive instead when i don't have enough time to do a full swing whether its fast groundstrokes or fast serves. That's why i made the switch to use the push drive instead for the serves and approach shots. Hes just your normal big power server, sometimes his serve works and blasts all in and hes deadly on the court and othertimes it dumps all down into the net or misses the lines. So the serve is not fully tuned in yet probably due to being a little bit rusty. But still a dangerous opponent to face.
@@samster978 It looks like to me that Lucas was going for broke on some of those balls not sure if hes hitting at 80% or is going for max power in everything in some of these balls that hes crushing. Kareu tells us to stick to 70-80% power but if you are hitting at near max power and are missing the court, and you are down in points then its best to drop the power level down to 70-80 power at match speed level (serving and groundstrokes), but if you are smacking them in at your max level and they are clicking in at 100+ mph then by all means we don't fix what is working but when that wave ends and the ball starts going long then its time to go back to match speed. I think Lucas may have been trying to go for broke sometimes when hes behind in points. And that is a bit risky to do.
love how respectful these guys are -- they're proper competitors who just love good tennis. Lucas has an unbelievable forehand but Hermont's serve and return of service are just massive -- really incredible stuff thank you Winston for bringing us this. This is the kind of stuff that every club player aspires to be -- you as well Winston -- your progress is inspiring
This matchup was hilarious. It’s aggressive vs ….. even more aggressive 😂. Lucas is no joke aside from massive serve and fh his backhand slice is super low and deep. Enjoyed this video! I appreciate Hermont’s willingness to play any comp. Shows he’s a true competitor
Incredible match. Definitely a testament to hanging in there even in the face of an absolute beast. Lucas has incredible pace and spin, but Hermont weathered his best and just kept coming. Lucas def looked like he tired, and he couldn’t get enough lift on those lower forehands as much toward the end. But man, high high quality match! Well done to both of them!!!
I've seen Hermont hit the ball with a lot more pace on this channel, but I'm sure he figured out Lucas prefers those so he slowed them down a bit, which worked in his favor. I'm impressed by how he returned Lucas' serves, he kept almost all of them in play and had maybe one or two return errors the entire set.
I have watched most of Hermont's matches here, and you hit the nail on the head. In addition to his physical game, he is mentally tough. Not an easy guy to beat!
WOOOOOOWZA ... what a match, so exciting, didn't know which way this was going until the end. Great sportsmanship by both players, both Hermont and Lucas have a great attitude and obviously both are at a very high level. Love Lucas's serve + forehand (both are bombs!) and thought his slice backhand was very effective and was even used quite offensively ... refreshing to see a healthy dose of European nonchalance as well =) Loving the channel Winston, you've made great progress yourself in a very short amount of time.
Best match on the channel so far. Lucas power is so easy for him and Hermont is relentless. And the sportsmanship made the match that more enjoyable to watch.
Luca's game reminds me of my own. As a fairly big guy (6'2, 235lb), I can say that while producing amazing winners, it's hard to maintain consistency in the long run. Lucas, being a big hitter, often gives away free points with balls stuck in the net or going too long. It's more of an impulsive game than a calculated one, relying on feeling rather than technique. His backhand could also use some work. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this match. Amazing forehand, powerful serve, impressive slides, and great overall performance. Hermont as always made great use of the court, knew he was overpowered but manged to use it to his advantage! Great match!!
wow, should have brought the radar gun out for this one! nice match. thanks again for the gear breakdown. Amazing that Hermont hits so powerfully w/ a light racquet like the F500!
Winston you said it at the end, but about halfway through the set I was thinking I gotta comment about the sportsmanship Both gave each other credit, but not in a fake way, and both kept their competitive focus It was great to see high level competing and good sportsmanship And contrasting styles
Great players, lot to learn here. Lucas started killing Hermont with huge forehands until 4-1. Then he definetily got tired, miss lot of shots, double faulted a entire game. Hermont on the other side, has patience and keep the consistence the entire set, keeping the footwork and balls on the court. Great game to watch, congratulations to both!
What a great match. Fitness and consistency proved the deciding factor. Lucas has the shots which he proved early. In the end they were really only separated by a couple of points. Thanks for the inspiration.
At first I was like “why hermont been using slices on both sides too often?” Then i realized he was exploiting Lucas’ struggle to lower his stance to hit the ball well and lift it up the net. Very clever for Hermont. On the other hand Lucas was a really strong player, you can clearly see he must’ve had higher level when he was a bit younger. Kudos to Winston for arranging great matches like this. Exciting and a bit more relatable than the pros
Fun match and impressive hitting! Hermont is mentally and physically tough. Lucas has some serious, easy power off the forehand wing. It would be great to see you two play again.
Super high quality tennis. Lucas welcome to the channel! Lucas is fast, can't wait to see him in the future when he's fitter. Still very impressive even now. Vermont is Diamond. Thanks Winston as always. M
this was a great match to watch. Hermont definitely got more comfortable as the game went on with returns when Lucas wasn't getting his first serve in. Both have amazing first serves so it was good to see them adjust to blocking the ball and starting the rally. Those backhand slices from both were very low and difficult to hit. Very impressed from both players.
Good quality, great sportsmanship. Lucas has a good slice backhand but his level dropped towards the end due to fatigue I guess. Hermon is very consistent and tough to beat.
this was amazing! Lucas' serve and forehand are unreal. Can we get hermont to do a serve and forehand tutorial haha Got to get tips from someone under 5'10!
Hes serving about 120-130 mph, same as I do. Every one who has been taught the power serve can serve the ball with power like that... I was taught how to this type of serving by a national coach as this is taught in the tennis academies. The power serve usually takes a second or so to reach down to the opponent so its pretty fast and you don't have much time to react.. Its done with pronation that's what gives the ball that zip. Lucas has definitely got height advantage here so he doesn't have to focus so much on reaching up to the ball like the more shorter guys have to do in order to to hit it because hes already got the long reach with those arms because hes taller..So its a bit easier for him.
@@spooky1304 Second or under is usually the speed that the pronation goes at if the ball is in very good condition and weather conditions are good. If the ball Is Hard and Crisp, not Soft or Wet or Damp or Fluffy.... But depends on conditions also of the weather, dry air, dampness, heavy air, damp wet balls, windy days, Rain, ect Affects the pronation speeds also on the ball. I don't like Fluffy or soft or wet damp balls to serve with.
@@germanslice Really..? Even a second sounds too long to me. I can react in 0.24 (measured) and sometimes I can't get my racket round quick enough and I shank the return and thats with no takeback just a block. How fast was Lucas' serves? How is it compared to ATP tour players (I'm talking about the average player not the serve bots)? The interesting thing is Hermont didn't even try to move back one bit and keep returning from the baseline. Superb anticipation.
Fun match! Lucas inside-out forehand is amazing. A few scorching winners. Seems like match turned Hermont turned to a more defensive game. Also, Hermont didn't have a great first serve percentage but was able to tough it out. Enjoyed watching.
For a second i thought hermont was going to finally lose haha. Lucas has a killer forehand, but stamina got the best of him for sure. Amazing players and awesome to watch.
Great Match! Lucas fatigue towards the end probably contributed to a few of these missed forehands, but Hermont came through again with that aggressive while steady playing style.
The impressive thing is that Hermont is no slouch in the power department either. He’s not just some consistent retriever type player. For his size he’s probably more impressive than Lucas in the power department, especially on the serve where a lower contact point compared to Lucas’s puts him at a disadvantage.
Really interesting video (thanks Winston). Lucas knows himself and his game better than anyone, so whatever he says, is more than likely right. He came out hard, but looked to be flagging from around the middle of the set onwards. Hermont just had to survive the heavy artillery in the beginning, and then was able to get back into it through a combination of his own consistency, and Lucas dropping his level. Winston, just a small point for you; I've said this to you before, and I think this video is a good example; when you have, and GO FOR, a big serve, it can win you a lot of points. You're a tall enough guy, so try training your first serve, and actually train to GO for it. Whether you decide to hit big on the second serve or not is a different discussion, but you should at least get that weapon in your toolkit.
Crazy out Hermonts counter punch style is evident against someone of his level and is a power player. But basically against anyone lower Hermont is always dictating play
Lucas! I've only seen the first 2 points and I'm going to guess he's going to be handful and toughest opponent. Dude is ballin, hope he keeps it up and isn't tired
Lucas started off super well, making incredible winners, breaking Hermont in the first few games. Then, his level of play began to decline; he began to make a lot more errors. This is all because of the mental game of tennis. Patrick Mouratoglou, one of the world's most renowned tennis coaches, told a story of him playing golf for the first time as an adult. Out on the course, in the first hole of his lifetime, he made par. In his mind, he thought, "Ah, this sport must be so easy." From that moment on, he expected himself to make par. After the first hole, he never made par again; he always hit above par. Upon reflections, he realized that having no expectation for himself made him play better, and once the expectation was set (after the first hole) of making par for the rest of the 17 holes on the course, he played much worse. It is expectations that drag us down mentally. Lucas, being out of competitive matches for so long, had absolutely no expectations for himself. After the first few games, only after the expectation was set for him to beat Hermont easily, he began to play worse. The stories are identical. So once again, I repeat, expectations drag us down in the mental game of any sport.
Big serve and big forehand but looked a lil gassed. But Hermont did an excellent job at not missing, putting pressure, making him hit excellent shots. Solid overall just wish he had bigger weapons. Overall great! Love these videos.
Man, after that first game I thought Hermont had no chance of winning! If Lucas was in great shape, I think Hermont would certainly have lost. Lucas is no UTR10 judging just by his strokes, but add in the fitness factor and I can see it. Lucas' backhand was a bit shaky at times, but overall was still pretty effective. I think Lucas lost mainly because he was taking more chances and couldn't quite sustain the excellent start, but kudos to Hermont for hanging in there and running down all the shots he did to wear Lucas down! Very engaging match!!
It was a lot of fun Winston, thanks for having me, gave me motivation to get in shape again and potentially play more matches!

Fun match! Lucas inside-out forehand is amazing. A few scorching winners. Seems like match turned Hermont turned to a more defensive game. Also, Hermont didn't have a great first serve percentage but was able to tough it out. Enjoyed watching.
Damn lucas hits hard 😤
5:11 😍😍😍
Bro Hermont came back grinder way to go fellas good game .
Very good Content Winston!
Great match really enjoyed it
For a second i thought hermont was going to finally lose haha. Lucas has a killer forehand, but stamina got the best of him for sure. Amazing players and awesome to watch.
Lucas is using my racket. So let's go! Rooting for the vcore.
I also got the same shoes for my birthday! Great style. :-)
Great Match! Lucas fatigue towards the end probably contributed to a few of these missed forehands, but Hermont came through again with that aggressive while steady playing style.
What camera and video editing software are you using?
I like the sponsor labels on the side fence.
The impressive thing is that Hermont is no slouch in the power department either. He’s not just some consistent retriever type player. For his size he’s probably more impressive than Lucas in the power department, especially on the serve where a lower contact point compared to Lucas’s puts him at a disadvantage.
Great match. Why don’t you use the swingvision app and a fence mount for making these videos even better
Would love to hear from Hermont why he switched from the extended pure drive to the fx500 normal length
Looks like a sponsorship deal with the outfit being Dunlop too
Hermont why did you switch to the Dunlop Fx500. What racket were you using before? Thx
Hermont! Not only does he serve well but his returns were sublime against Lucas’ big serves. Hermont remains the final boss!
What a game! There's gotta be a re-match!
Big serve and big forehand but looked a lil gassed. But Hermont did an excellent job at not missing, putting pressure, making him hit excellent shots. Solid overall just wish he had bigger weapons. Overall great! Love these videos.
great video mate
They really both serve some wicked heat! Lucas got the reach advantage. But man, Hermont is good.
great match, monster serves from both, monster FH from Lucas. A few questionable calls, but with those serves it cant be easy. Applauds to both!
Monster serves...fun to watch
Man, after that first game I thought Hermont had no chance of winning! If Lucas was in great shape, I think Hermont would certainly have lost. Lucas is no UTR10 judging just by his strokes, but add in the fitness factor and I can see it. Lucas' backhand was a bit shaky at times, but overall was still pretty effective. I think Lucas lost mainly because he was taking more chances and couldn't quite sustain the excellent start, but kudos to Hermont for hanging in there and running down all the shots he did to wear Lucas down!
Very engaging match!!
Power’s forehand is a thunderclap. So dangerous!!
Calling it now - Match of the year candidate
16:00 was that a Truls Möregårdh type of celebration?! lol
I know how Lucas feels, never fun to play with compromised limbs/shoulders. But damn he is powerful, hats off to him for playing so well.
