    Thank you! As a CPST, most people have no idea that the lower anchors have a weight limit of 65 pounds combined weight of baby and seat in almost all vehicles. Thank you very much for mentioning that in this video as it is super important! I always feel bad having to try to talk parents out of using LATCH for their big kids when it’s the way they feel confident using.

    Update: We now own both the Cybex Sirona S and the Nuna Rava. I would only recommend the Cybex Sirona S if a) your car has a short back seat AND you plan to use a convertible seat from birth or b) you need the swivel function to allow an older child to access the center seating position. The Nuna Rava is way easier to install, and it gets a more secure install. The Cybex Sirona S will fit in the same amount of space front to back as a Nuna Pipa infant seat installed with the base. It fits at newborn recline without adjusting the front seat. If you adjust the recline you can also fully extend it without adjusting the front seat.
    Original Post:
    I just want to say that the Nuna Rava is excellent if you have limited front to back space. We have it in a Ford Fiesta (their smallest car), behind the driver. With the leg room extended and rear recline 5 (most upright) it takes up about the same amount of space front to back as the Nuna Pipa infant seat installed with the base. Without legroom extended it fit comfortably enough at recline 2, but most comfortably at 3. So in a very small car like mine, you would probably still need an infant seat. For reference I am 5'2" but my legs think I am 5'7" lol. I sit almost as far back as my husband, who is 5'7" with average legs. I am always the driver and my husband is always the passenger. We were originally going to get a Nuna Exec for this baby, but now that Cybex has released the swivel version of the Sirona here, we are getting that instead. I am sooooo geeked out that its finally available in the states.

      @@srejababu1787 I got the Cybex about 8 months ago. I like it a lot. The Swivel feature is really really nice to put in and take out the baby (really the only major feature to me). Now that sometimes I put my daughter facing forward once in a while when I drive by myself, it is great I don't have to reposition the entire seat. I see why people say it does move a tiny bit when install but it doesn't concern me much as I believe it is secure enough in a crash. I believe I used a coupon to get it so it was cheaper (like 10-20%) back then. Hope it helps.

However in an SUV or even a large sedan I would prefer the Nuna because it gets a more secure install, and doesn’t need to be reinstalled as frequently. Also the Nuna is way easier to install correctly. Also if you child has a very large head, you will find the head rest and harness in the Nuna fit better. The Cybex sits much lower, so there’s less bonking the child on the car when putting them in, and as mentioned by someone else, the swivel is a major back saver (it’s also great for abdominal separation aka diastitis recti).

    Not sure how I feel about the Clek Q-tether. I’m glad it’s an optional/extra accessory and not required because it screams misuse to me. I’m already careful about recommending Clek to most parents because their convertibles are awesome and cool and have tons of neat features but they just aren’t as intuitive and user friendly as something like the Rava or Britax Clicktights. I tell them they really need to get to know their Clek car seat and commit to using it correctly as baby grows - obviously this always applies but Clek seats aren’t as easy and quick to adjust which is important for parents to know when they make that choice. Rear tethers are an awesome safety feature but the extra step of hooking/unhooking to get baby in/out seems unrealistic for all parents to do correctly every time. :(

      Personally not a huge fan of all in one seats like the Exec. They sound great in theory but tend to have drawbacks in real life. Often hard for kiddo to use/buckle as a booster (I haven’t played with the Exec so I can’t say if it’s worse or better than average) so I see many families buy a separate booster down the road and end up regretting the $$$. No matter how easy it is to switch between booster and harness modes, there is room for user error which risks leaving kiddo unsafe. And ~10 years is a long time for one kid to use one seat - car seats get gross with use, and who knows what new technology will come out between now and then. I love the Rava and would not personally spend the extra $200 for a booster mode that may or may not work well for your family in 6-7 years -CPST

    • @megankuchta9145
      @megankuchta9145 4 года назад

      We have a Rava which we love, but for baby 2 (also due June :) ) we were leaning Exec. My main reason was that the Exec has integral AR while the US version of the Rava doesn't have ARB. It's worth noting the price of the Rava + Aace = Exec, but the Aace is much wider than the Exec. If width is a concern I would say Exec, if not Sandy makes a very good point. The width of the Exec is the same as the Baby Trend Hybrid, which is one of the narrower boosters. I also like that the Exec doesn't have arm rests because arm rests increase the risk of seatbelt misuse in boosters. Additionally, it has a nice open beltpath.

    • @SF-pe3qf
      @SF-pe3qf 4 года назад

      Definitely a fan of the anti-rebound feature - the ARB is why I stuck to Britax Clicktight seats instead of getting a Rava myself :). The Rava is 0.5” wider than the Exec, but the Rava also has a smaller front to back footprint when rear facing. OP, if you’re close to a Nordstrom or other store that carries floor models of Nuna seats, I’d suggest going and getting your hands on both seats before making your decision. Try the Exec install in your car if possible (most Nordstrom stores should let you try it out if they have enough staff for someone to walk you to your car with the seat(s), I’ve done it a few times!) to make sure it’ll fit at a safe newborn recline. You may also decide you prefer one seat over the other based on size, inserts, or other features that are important to you.

    Cybex, what are the dimensions? We are expecting our second and would like to keep our uppababy Mesa, in the middle of the back seat of our SUV for now. But I worry both won’t fit. 😥

      DSchultz83 the Cybex is 20 in wide at the shoulder. Front to back it takes up about the same distance as a Nuna Pipa installed on the base. It fits rear-facing in a Ford Fiesta at newborn recline. Adjusting the recline, you can fully extend the headrest without adjusting the front seat at all.

      @@MagicBeansVideos My usage of infant car seat would be very less in the first 6 months of baby's birth. And I read somewhere that infant car seats are mostly about convenience carrying baby while they are asleep, safety feature of infant and all in one convertible car seats are same. Since you are an expert, it is good to your opinion before I make any decision. I have to make purchase decision in june.

    • @SF-pe3qf
      @SF-pe3qf 4 года назад +1

      Surbhi Mittal the one4life is a really, really nice seat but I don’t love it for newborns. For a rear facing kiddo, the harness straps have to come from at/below baby’s shoulders. The lowest harness slot on the one4life is too high to safely fit a smaller/shorter newborn and it’s just too hard to accurately predict a baby’s torso height in utero to know whether they will be tall enough to safely use the one4life from birth. The Britax Clicktight convertibles (Marathon, Boulevard, Advocate) fit newborns better because the harness goes low enough to sit at/below an average newborn’s shoulders. If you really prefer the one4life over the other convertibles (personally not a huge fan of booster mode on all-in-one style car seats) just make sure you have a backup plan, like a cheaper convertible car seat known to fit newborns well, just in case. Then that extra seat can be your backup seat/babysitter’s car etc when baby upgrades to the one4life.

I’m looking for a super safe car seat, easy to use and easy to install plus comfort. I like the idea of the steel frame of the Diono but not sure the comfort level in terms of reclining (forward facing) I’ll be worried if the head is hanging forward while sleeping. Also, I don’t know much of Cybex as a brand.

    Review for the Nuna Exec please

  • @bjjjaron
    @bjjjaron 3 года назад +1

    For the nuna rava- if you install it in a car with down sloping seats, even at the most reclined position of the carseat, it is still quite upright. What are your thoughts about wedging a rolled towel/pool noodle underneath the carseat to fix the angle issue?

    • @MagicBeansVideos
      @MagicBeansVideos 3 года назад +2

      We always suggest checking with CPSTs before using accessories. You absolutely do not want a towel under there according to most recent guidelines but the pool noodles are commonly used by CPSTs for angle adjustments. As for how exactly to do that, I'd definitely suggest reach out to the experts at your local fire or police station.

    When would you suggest switching over from the Mesa to a knox in terms of age/weight.

    • @SF-pe3qf
      @SF-pe3qf 4 года назад

      Both are equally safe as long as kiddo is within the limits. Personally I get tired of lugging around that heavy infant seat early on and I’ve switched as early as 4-6 months. Once baby is able to sit in a stroller seat out of the car instead of car seat/bassinet I’m ready to switch! I’ve found that my kiddos are more comfortable and prefer to sit a little more upright than the infant seat allows by 6-8 months. But really you can switch anytime before baby reaches the Mesa height or weight limit (as long as they are within Knox minimum weight). When baby reaches the height or weight limit of Mesa (usually height first) you must switch. -CPST
