The ones that don’t involve OOB are more interesting imo. You can’t expect devs to plan for you glitching out of the map, but when you can still get softlocked in developer-controlled space, it’s so satisfying.
I was kind of dissapointed that most of these are just getting out of bounds with propsurfing or backhopping or whatever. When I saw the title I expected more stuff like putting the barrel under Matt.

There was one time I softlocked on Water Hazard at the part where the chimney is hit by a headcrab shell and falls over. I don't know how, but somehow I managed to be far enough ahead that the rubble fell on top of me and trapped me in the boat underneath a large piece. I couldn't move or get out of the boat and the helicopter was shooting at me but it couldn't hit me. Also I am not sure if you already put down a way to skip using the crane at all in the highway 17 chapter, but if you bring a long metal panel thing (if you stand near the edge of it and punt it with the gravity gun, it can send you quite high) and you do some trickery with it to land on top of the fences near where the bridge you'd have to hit with something with the crane would be, you can do an accelerated-back-hop and fly onto the roof of one of the buildings, jump down and skip that crane (as well as the epic scene where you smash through a window with the jeep (you will not be bringing the jeep.))
Man these are all super creative. In some spots you showed I knew about some boring softlocks, but then you kept surprising me with new cooler softlocks in the same area
What must those CPs think when you're on the roof there? "Look, he's getting away!" "How?" "He's lifting that paint bucket underneath him and flying off!"
What a weird coincidence. I just started replaying Half Life 2 yesterday, with the goal of searching for softlocks. Then this pops up in my feed. Glad to see it!
On the roof escape level, you can also enter one of the APCs and softlock yourself there, provided you've skipped the trigger that enables damage in the previous map.
I found out that one with the guy landing on the explosive barrel the hard way. Funny that it soft locks the game considering that character almost always dies anyway.

A question, not counting any infinite spawn areas, how many combine units are in the game? Or what other levels can the airboat/car be somewhat properly used in?
Huh, I guess if Link can have a bottle adventure, Gordon Freeman can have a barrel adventure as well. Do all silent protagonists have crazy adventures with inanimate objects or what?
I once managed to softlock in Kleiner's lab by interrupting his walk to the small elevator he uses. The elevator went up without him and the cutscene stopped moving forward.
Huh, must admit, I didn't expect breaking Barney at the beginning to be THAT easy. I think some of these can be attributed to developer laziness and overlooking too many aspects of the game. The Barney sequence almost reads "Yes, it breaks if you do this, so why would you do it?" Well I uh...

The game automatically breaks the props underneath where that guy is supposed to land. I guess they didn't consider the possibility of someone putting an explosive barrel there, lol
Was hoping for softlocks that any player of any experience could run into. The speedrun strats (propsurf, quick-clipping, etc) make the game seem... less broken. Which it is, to be fair. I'VE never been softlocked in a Half-Life game ever. Shows you how good it really is.
I wonder if realizing this world is a simulation too too early in life is a kind of softlock... I think it's hard to softlock "real life" because it's so so much more optimized
Several of these were interesting but I think it's dumb you included so many that require intentionally prop-climbing out of the playable area. It's not like someone will do that by accident and if they really expect the game to keep working, they're a fool.

you can pres quick load to get out

Doesn't really feel like a 'Softlock' when it involves deliberately prop climbing out of bounds.
You know what they say: a softlock a day keeps the Interloper away
i think games should have a clear softlock button in the options menu
I love the implication that the teleporter accident at the beginning is because Gordon was a dumbass who dragged a cardboard box in there with him.
I watched this video because it looked interesting.
