Toxic appears to be made for metal, not for pop. Don't know what went wrong in the history of that song, but it seems like it's where it should be now.
You should also check out Lauren Babic's version, which is a more rough version of this. I also agree this genre fits the song more

I thoroughly enjoy the pacing and feel of this, really gives a chance for the instruments to hold their own amidst the vocals. Tied for my favorite version of this song with Lauren Babic

I would advise you to check out the versions of "a static lullaby" and "Our last night"! A static lullaby really nailed it for me!

My oh My, the drums and guitar in here is so great and they don't overpower the voice too. This is totally going into my warmup music for workout 'cause this is really good.
