Wow AJ, that thing is a mess! The water was definitely not kind to it. You’ve got some work ahead of you for sure but I’m confident you’ll have that engine back up and running!
I'd ditch that mechanical fuel pump. Create a block off plate for its mounting place. Drill/tap the plate and put a hose fixture through it. Then run a Briggs style pulse pump that runs off crankcase pressure. They're reliable and dirt cheap to replace. But that's just me.
yeah, it will run but that cilinder is beyond honing, it will eat your pistonrings like hell, and its going to burn a lot of oil when running. if you want to repair it good, you have to bore the cilinder and then a oversized piston. cheers ben
Lóks like its out of a JD 317 , from the look of the stub shaft on ghe flywheel. Early engines were junk, and would blow up if leaned , if i remember to the starter side for to long. Oil pickup was not in the middle of the engine, and the would starve for oil. Kohler still has not learned after all these years yet how to build a good engine. IE the "discourag" and other abortions they have been building lately. How about they new high HP twins built with M6 bolts holding the connecting rod caps, had two in our shop with low hours in our shop, less then 100 that rod cap bolts came lose.maybe they should stick to plumbing.😢😢😢
I have done some research and found these engines really don't like inclines, starves for oil and busts a rod. Luckily my yard is relatively flat and if I were to load it on a pickup ill ratchet it up and not drive it up. if this engine eventually throws a rod Ill just do a v twin engine swap since spares for this engine is really damn hard to find in my country.
@@AJRestoration Small engine warehouse has some great pretty much drop in replacement Briggs Vtwin drop in kits to replace that engine it a lot of different tractors out there. We have replaced a bunch of M18-M20 Kohler engines in Gravely tractors with their Briggs Vtwin kits. Makes a very nice job when done.
So cool watching the restoration of an H-block engine. Looking forward to the rest.
This is not an H block, this is an opposed one. In the H block, the connecting rods are located on one crankshaft journal
Way cool. This is going to be great. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉The internals looked pretty good.
Ouch... I'm with you though. I'm reasonably certain everything will clean up and run again.

When I saw the water in the carb, the corrosion in the manifold and the fact the engine would turn and stop, I knew water got into the cylinders.
Nice restoration as always.great video 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Thank you Tom!😎👍

That is a good option, this one might still be good for a while, I have not opened it up yet.
@@danielprivate7442 excellent suggestion.
She's in rough shape alright but she looks well built and tough. Just waiting for someone to bring her back to life and make her feel proud again!
I hope I can save it, I am a little worried about the rust but we will see.
hey this is great. i have one of these in an old wheel horse. i'll be following along.

It might just make it. Ill see how long it runs. I can't find any oversized pistons for this engine so it will bee what it is haha.
13:48, Look, no nylon gears, a real engine, unlike today's junk.🥵
@@transmitterguy478 looking disgustingly at you Briggs & Stratton... hahaha
Nice engine to build a lekker little farm tractor
Hello AJ good job
Thank you buddy!
It looks bad all right, but my money's on you getting it back in running condition!
Hope you do this engine justice!
Awesome Video !
The charging stator is definitely nasty looking hope that you can rebuild this classic kohler k17 engine AJ
The stator tested okay luckily, cleaned up nicely.
@@AJRestoration glad to hear that AJ
👍thank you
Thank you too!
I belive in You!
Thank you! I hope all turns out great haha
What is that engine used for? I have never seen one like that.
This one came from a John Deere 317 tractor I am restoring.
@@AJRestoration sweet. Tractor engines are a completely different animal than car/truck engines, I heard that anyways.
Super moteur
What vintage? Early 80's?
I believe so yes, not sure about the exact age as the serial sticker was missing when I got it.
What is that maschin ????
Hi AJ ek Kan nie wag vir die herstel van die masjien nie😢
That's so dirty the carburetor engine.
Yo tengo un Kohler 593r no consigo los repuestos

Same engine in a stump grinder years ago on a big angle and it picked up on big end bearings
