In the way you'd brush with egg wash or water or milk, it seems they brush the pastry with something to give that effect. I know it's not brushing with milk and sprinkling sugar because that doesn't give the bubbled, flaky effect I want. It's also similar to outside of fried pies, just a little bit but these pastries are baked. I hear there is a particular kind of sugar for finishing baked goods as well.

This recipe is the truth!!! The only variation is that instead of flattening the mix all together on the baking sheet, crumble it up and “fluff” separating with a fork and you can pretty much skip the processing step all together. Delicious recipe 👍🏽 have made numerous times and my family begs me for it!!

I made this for my son's fish bowl strawberry cake. I used it to look like the bottom of an aquarium. It was perfect So easy to make. So delicious. I'm not kidding it taste EXACTLY like the strawberry shortcake bars. The texture is spot on. We used the extra on our ice cream. Thanks for the amazing recipe. Others I found were dried strawberries and Oreos and that just wants right. 10/10 would recommend.

It is. I made strawberry donuts and chocolate ones and I made them like the strawberry shortcake and chocolate eclair ice creams. They were delicious. I enjoyed the chocolate one the most thought.

@@Proverbs31.10 if it’s too creamy/runny just add more flour until it’s stiff. it’s like that because the strawberry kind is a jello and the vanilla kind is a pudding!! i always make this and i just add more flour, the strawberry flavor is still very present!!

Jello was also creamy….it ca,e out great in taste but I was like hummmmm…… his didn’t look like that😟 but after it dried it was a good texture (some what) enough for me to use as a crumble. So next time I think I will add a lil bit more flour to the jello mixture😀👌🏽

For a crumble that’s more shelf stable and less greasy, use refined coconut oil or you can use shortening (I wouldn’t…it’s full of chemicals). Thank you for sharing this recipe, my grandchildren will be thrilled with having this sprinkled on cupcakes, ice cream, yogurt, cake and even mixed into cookie dough…yum! 💞

I spent all morning going from store to store trying to find the freeze dried strawberries. Came home and made it, and it did NOT come out the way it looked in the pictures 🙄. I will try this!! For the strawberry jello use 1/3 cup flour. It needs a little but more flour because the jello is more wet than the pudding.
