for a 1.0l they are actually quite nippy !! the only only thing that lets me down about the car is the sound system but other than that everything else is perfect
@@4l3x50 I remember thinking the rear speakers in mine weren't working, but then discovered they're actually just grilles with nothing behind them. Think they offered an optional upgraded sound system but not many got it. Still fun to drive though, I think the 3 cylinder sounds pretty good at higher revs.
Andy T 001 yes i thought the exact same i spent weeks looking through settings to figure out what was wrong 😂 , and i also agree it sounds better than a 4 cylinder in my opinion and it handles corners very well for its class , it’s a brilliant first car , it has its negatives but the positives make up for it
by the way if you still have this car please please please could you do another pov video like this because it was amazing , love how you pushed it to its limits on the country roads , really shows its ability to have fun
Just found your video I have a 2013 High Up so 75hp like yours and it really is good fun especially as it steers so well. You can keep up the momentum on the twisties. I was relieved to note that yours sounds just like mine as they are a little bit vocal and mechanical sounding.
Glad you like your up! They are great fun on a twisty road. I was a bit surprised by some of the mechanical sounds when I first got mine - at a cold idle there's quite a pronounced rattle that almost sounds like a diesel, but I've got used to it as a quirk of the car. Over 30,000 miles it's actually been very reliable and only needed a new battery.
@@tadassmolskas3014 completely normal, they all do it. Vibrations from the 3 cylinder engine make the clutch release bearing/fork chatter. Once load is put on the release bearing the chatter goes away.
@@AndyT001 loved it..sensible driving and a great showcase for the capabilities of the car when handled with care and respect. this is one of the several car options i am considering next and love watching youtube videos highlighting cars i am interested in being driven in a real world way.....rather than thrashed. vw, skoda and citroen are three of my main choices in the small car range. small cars that are also refined and capable enough on faster roads as well as urban. although the citroen c1 82 bhp has my interest at the moment as many of my local roads are somewhat hilly and my daily commute entails faster roads...nevertheless every time i see a vw up or skoda citigo or seat mii it makes me smile. one of them may yet win my heart...lol
Thanks, even a basic car like this probably has higher handling capabilities than many people realise. They're very economical too, I usually see around 50 MPG overall on busy commutes and have got 70-80 from it on long runs. (Though only with a very light foot!) If you do go for one of the VW trio, the early models don't come with sound deadening in the rear wheelarches, DAB radio, boot light, passenger window switch on the driver's door or strings to lift the parcel shelf with the tailgate. Later ones got all this but fall under the £140 a year VED bracket from April 2017 vs £20 or less for the early models. The C1s seem quite neat, didn't think they felt quite as solid but the infotainment is much more modern and the extra power of the 1.2 wouldn't go amiss!
Good video! These standard Up's go quite well! I got the GTI model with 115HP. So much fun and they've messed about the the suspension too so it handles like a little go kart. if you wanted to upgrade. I'd highly suggest one. VW no longer produce them so get one quick!
Thanks, glad you liked the video. I had a quick drive in an up! GTI a while back and it was a great little car, it definitely seemed to stay flatter around corners with the suspension changes they made, and the extra pull was nice. I'm still happy with my car so I'll hang on to it for now, but enjoy your GTI. Shame they had such a short production run, but more future classic potential as a result!
You're welcome. Glad you got to drive one! The production run was about 18 months. So theres got to be just under or over 1000 examples In the uk alone. Mine is a year old next month with just 2,700 on it! So hoping it will achieve classic status!
Hello, I have a VW High Up! MY2018 non-turbo with 30,000 kilometers, and I think it’s an excellent car. The only problem I had was that a bearing (one of those magnetic ones related to the ABS) broke. My mechanic replaced it, and the problems were gone. Excellent car! Btw, dude, that's England right? Looks chaotic to drive on those streets for me, left-side driver :D
Good choice, in my experience they're great little cars. Hope yours stays trouble free now. It is England, and it is pretty chaotic to drive in that area!
Enjoyed the video but was wondering if anybody on here as ever drove the 59 bhp version on the 'Move' Up. Interested in buying one but is it enough power ? Could always get it re-mapped Iv'e been told. Any comments are much appreciated. Cheers !!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I've not personally driven the 59 bhp but a friend has some experience with one, and thought it felt quite similar to the 75. It seems like the power difference is only really noticeable high in the rev range, and both engines produce the same 70lb-ft (95Nm) torque which is fine for town driving. It's not a fast car but it's fun to drive enthusiastically. I've had mine 5 years and it's been great, no major problems and it's very affordable to run.
@@AndyT001 Thanks for the feedback. Yes, iv'e seen a road test where they state the 59 bhp version will hold 70 mph at a shade over 3000 rpm. This is better than my present 1.2 Corsa and took some believing. Must be down to the gearing. All the reviews praise the excellent build quality which is what attracts me after owning a Vauxhall so i think i'm going to after go ahead and get one. You just can't beat German engineering !!
I got my 2014 vw up just before lockdown for £4000 and just to see I looked on auto trader to see how much they are selling for and the are as high as 7 grand. The second hand marker is a mess at the moment but good for me😂 thinking of selling and getting an s3 😂
Yes there's a small dead zone around the centre, more noticeable than in some other cars I've driven with electric power steering, but I think it's just a characteristic of this model.
The Volkswagen dealer I used always said the timing belt was "for life" and never needed changing. The Skoda dealer nearby advised every 5 years or 50,000 miles. The original timing belt on my car was in it for 11 years (55,000 miles). It seemed fine, but I finally had it changed after a couple of friends wrote off their vans when the belts snapped.
We also have highways or motorways you know. We have regular 4 lane roads with 2 directions. It's not bad. This is the country side part of wherever the place he is driving.
You get used to it, guess its probably quite intimidating if you've come from the US where roads are incredibly wide and straight and you mostly drive autos.
I think it's fine for a city car, actually better at speed than around town where the gearbox and 3 cylinder can emit some knocks and rattles. I've also been impressed with how stable it feels at higher speeds for such a small car - it's much less affected by crosswinds and standing water than some others I've driven.
There isn't much sound deadening, no liners in the rear wheelarches and lot of noise from the gearbox and clutch linkages comes in to the cabin. They've somewhat improved the facelift models but the Hyundai i10 felt like a more substantial vehicle with the 4 cylinder.
@@AndyT001 I have the Skoda version, the Citigo, and it is the same. I have heard that cars in this class tend to be built down to a price because the class is so competitive.
yes they really cost cut but they cost £9000 and its as good as it gets at that price, When I get one I will sound deaden the floors, arches, doors and sides amd headlining. I also want to re trim with a higher quality carpet as I hate cheap carpets in cars, and put foam behind that squeaky sodding plastic dash. Then it will be silent, and feel like a VW should
Looking on forums it sees to be caused by a noisy clutch release bearing and minimal sound deadening compared to bigger cars. The dealer just called it "a characteristic".
The 3 cylinders really have a distinctive sound. I think the ForTwos are pretty neat, I've never driven one but I remember looking around one at Mercedes-Benz world several years ago and was impressed with the interior.
