  • Back in 2006 a convoy of pre-1958 Series 1 Land-Rovers was organised to travel from Oxford near Christchurch to Cambridge in the North Island to mark 50 years of the OXFORD and CAMBRIDGE ‘First Overland Expedition’ from London to Singapore in 1956.
In 2011 Leon Zwetsloot sent an email to the convoy contact list - to see if anyone would be interested in getting a few Series 1s together to tour some back roads and talk ‘Land-Rover’ for a few days.
Seven Series 1s answered the call and travelled from Taumaranui via back roads to Taihape and then on to Napier over the weekend.
This year we headed back to where it all began in 2011 to the Motor Camp on the eastern outskirts of Taumaranui, but instead of travelling on, we used the camp as a base and travelled out each day to explore the Pureora Forest and the valleys to the west around Ohura.

I have travelled through the area many times and still amazed at the number of remote valleys that have access. I was working up the Paparoa Road on the way to Kirikau. The access is like entering a hidden valley. Thanks for the comment

Hi - thank you very much for the feedback. Very grateful that you appreciate the work that goes into producing the video. There was over 20 hours of video recorded and several hundred photo all compressed into 30 minutes - so yes, a lot of work. Thank you for Subscribing to the channel

Hey folks...just got a notification for your video...
    Excellent, as usual...
Slowly winding up all that is left to do here in Canada, and we are listing the house, then here we come!
Looking forward to tracking you folks down and getting into the country side with you.
Been a long haul, but be damned if there isn't light at the end of the tunnel.
    I WILL find you...
And looking forward to getting greasy on rigs...
    Lucky, lucky me!
    I married a KIWI!
    Introduced by her daughter...
Best thing that happened to me...
    Natalie and Joe..

@@Kevz110 Hey , thanks for the reply...
I prefer to call it "research"...has a much more acceptable flair to it, don't you think?
Initially, we have to be in Auckland...(short term), then we are looking at Lumsden or New Plymouth...
But, the sky is the limit, once we get there..
It's been a long grind so far, but all the ducks are lining up, the stars have moved into position and we have a few full moons on our side....
That and selling the house here....
      New bathroom going in.
      New yard just about finished.
      Gardens planted...
Just a few more "little" things..
And then we are on the Sky Bus to my new life...along with my wife of course...
Without her, this dream would never come about...
I will always love my step daughter for introducing us..
Who just happens to own .... In Knead Massage & Therapeutics, in Jindabyne, Australia...(shameless plug here).
My eternal thanks to her for trusting me with her mother....alone...in the sticks...here in the Kootenays...

@Kevz110 I used to own a series 2a, but sadly I wasn't able to repair as injuries and illness, so I adopted her too a family, I ex army in the 70s, and was a driver in the infantry here and overseas, that's when Land Rover were king,

    • @Kevz110

@@warrenjohnknight.9831 Its always a sad day when you part with a Land-Rover. Most have names - which makes them part of the family. Had a mate who sold his Land-Rover and his wife and kids didn't speak to him for an uncomfortable time. BTW - Land-Rover is still king. I notice in many Aussy 4WD Videos there are few Land-Rovers invited along, but when they are on the trip - they kick some serious butt!
