Hi Shan, Thanks for the info about PacePro and all other videos about Forerunner 245. Frankly, you are doing a better job than Garmin itself in explaining the great features that Forerunner 245 has. Keep doing..
Thanks a million for this review, I was struggle with my Apple Watch 6 for accuracy, especially for my pace consistency and wanted to go for a Garmin, had no idea, which one. When I saw this video on pace pro, I realized this is exactly what I needed (a garmin with pace pro). So I purchased a 245 non music and I went from 2 failed sub 3:30 marathon attempt (3:36 PB with a plus or minus 1min range per Km) to hitting 3:29:55 with a +\-10 seconds per km range for the whole race. (Note: Race pacers cancelled due to covid so completely on my own steam). Thanks a million Shanebow and Garmin! Pace Pro is a super feature.
Just wanted to come back here and thank you again for this and all your videos. I ran my Half this morning and killed my record by 10MINS!!. I even corrected an over-zealous pacer who was running almost 6 minutes ahead of his 2:00:00 pace - HAHA. SB You the best Compa!! new half PR/PB 1:58:05. 1:45:00 I'm coming for you!! Have a great one!!
@@shanebow I just started a new routine (January) Run/Cycle/Elliptical/Rest. It seems to be working. PacePro is just one more tool added to my arsenal or weapons - HAHA. For my RUn days I either do a FAST 5K or a 6-8M tempo run. for Cycling I do 15 miles on a trainer unless it falls on the weekend. If it does then I go for a 40 miler minimum. Elliptical I just make sure my heart rate stays mid-top of my Zone 4 (1hr session). Going to do this for 6 months and tweak it little by little. However, without good tech it's hard to monitor. YOU (SB) helped me decide on the 245M, customize it's screen and now "the icing on the cake" Pace Pro. Owe you a lot buddy.
SB You are the man!! Been using my 245M (ever since you recommended the unit) for about 8 months now and I never noticed this feature added. I've been setting DATA fields and Alerts to achieve what this little feature does. Running a half this weekend and looking forward to using PacePro. PR here I come. Keep Posting Buddy Keep those vids coming!!!!
Awesome video Shane! Very detailed instructions on both how to set it up on the App and also the Watch view. I will wait for the feature to be generally available before updating it into my 245 for stability. :) Keep the great videos coming.
This was very helpful. Your video showing what the watch actually does during a run was especially helpful. I'm getting ready for my first 25K and as a slower runner I'm freaking out about being able to do make the time cut off. I'm three weeks out and am going to use my long run this weekend to test this pace pro and make sure I can actually do the distance in the time I need to make. Basically, a tune up race, by myself. Thanks again.
@@markoljustina I like how you can design the screens directly on the watch and there's plenty of space, very readable in the sun 🌞 current pace, well just did a very hilly 10 miler at AVG 04:40 pace helped by PacePro, designed it to be faster at the start and breaks the race up into smaller chunks when the elevation changes 👍 I got a 90s PB so really helped me 🙌
I love that you show what it looks like on the run. It annoys me that garmin doesn't have a test mode or screenshots on their website so you can see screens before you run. I just finished the 5K adaptive plan (coach Greg) and missed the 22:00 target as my pacing was off. A shame the race screen what not the same screen we get for training with the red-green-red pacing help dial.
Cheers Veg! I agree with you! 999 it's been really great watching it tick over to 1,000 this week. I really never expected this. I would have been happy with 50 at this point
Great video, now can you show us how to set it up for a particular route. Is it possible to use a previous run and set that up as a course for the pace pro?
Thank you for your great video. Please can you explain how to delete a pace Pro plan from the watch. By mistake I have more than one paceproprlans of the same race. I have Garmin 245. Thank you Shan.
Everything is fine but what to do when my run differs from my proper course and PacePro is showing me wrong time, distance and tempo? For instance I plan a course ( 16.3km) and run exactly the same path and end up at 16.05 km . The whole time pacepro was showing me the distance adjust to the course but not to a proper run? How to make it to be more specific?
Awesome video! Planning to use this for my (virtual) Marathon next week. I am wondering how it would work with the variance between what the course is and where I actually am... For example, if I started a PacePro and ran off the course, what would happen?
It'll still record your run it as if pace pro was off. You can always cycle to another screen if it was annoying you. I'd go try it out before your marathon starts so you know what it does and you're not doing anything new. Thanks for your comments.... Now Go smash that Virtual Marathon 😎👍💪
I think this is awesome. Do you think that this will be available on the FR45? I was torn between the 45 and 245 but opted for the cheaper one as I had only been running seriously for a couple of months. I still love my watch and it saw me through my first half marathon in a great time (for me - 2:07) 😊 Thanks for the brilliant videos, they have really helped me too!
Hey Kevin, that's a really respectable half marathon time! Congratulations!!! Will it be on the 45? I'm a real optimistic guy but I hate to say I don't think it will be. The 45 is still an awesome watch! Thanks for your comments and good luck on your next half marathon
PacePro seems to be part of a recent update as I have not installed the beta version but I used it on my 245 this morning. Thanks for the info on how to use it. Creating your own course with the editor is problematic when trying to follow a park path for a Parkrun especially when you need to do three laps with slight alterations at the start and end. Do you know if you can create the route whilst running/walking the route?
So can you start the pacer part way through a workout? Say I want to do a 10 min warm up, followed by a 5k max effort and a 10 min cool down? Or do I just have to do Three separate workouts for that?
I'm using fenix 6 sapphire and when i try to upload the pace pro on it, it says not compatible... So may you guide me on this one to how i can use the pace pro on my fenix 6 sapphire
There is no reason it shouldn't work that I'm aware of. The best action would be to ensure the software is updated and if it still doesn't work contact Garmin support
Shanebow - Running & Tech I wish I could sent you the picture but what I’ll do is try reset it tomorrow and try using the usb to upload it then I’ll give you the feedback
Hi. Really useful video - thanks. Pace Pro looks brilliant, and I'd love to be able to use it. I've got the Garmin Fenix 5s Plus though... Is there any way of getting it on my watch?
Hi mate I've downloaded the beta files but have no idea how to install on to my 245..the installation instructions make no sense to me 😬 what did you download it on...I'm using a macbook!
You have to plug the watch in with usb. And drag over some files to replace others. Just make sure you don't download 245 music ones by mistake as it won't work. Definitely follow the instructions to the letter as I'd hate to hear that you broke your watch 😎
...good Pace Pro detailed review; my one question is when you set up a course in Garmin - or download one previously created, and create a Pace Pro for it, how do you know where to start? Does Pace Pro guide you in to the right point? I guess you could be 10 metres off or more which would mean more time to make up on the course? Is that right?
If you're running on automatically created course does it show you your next turn or small map? I am getting Garmin 245 and not sure if I'll need to take my phone with you to use PacePro with course. Thanks
I was stuck between getting an 245 or 645 but after this I think I made up mind. It is possible that this feature may come to also 645 but meeeh, they are not very different anyway. I’ll get an 245.... as soon as I have enough money for it. Also, gotta admit that it is pretty strange to see someone in UK using miles for pace :D
Hi Shan, great video! Only one question: On the race, when pacepro changes the rhythm, does the 245 and fenix 6 vibrates/give some heads-up for the change? Or do you have to check the pulse every 5 seconds! Thank you and keep going!
I see how PacePro could be used for guidance in a run, where you want to speed up continuously, as you have shown in your test run. Of course, for a flat marathon, the best strategy is to run as evenly as possible. And for this you don't need PacePro, the virtual training partner (or whatever the feature is called) will just do the trick. However, the real use of PacePro would be when you are out on a hilly course, with steep climbs and decents. Unfortunately, for this PacePro is utterly useless as the split paces calculated by PacePro are unrealistic and completely at odds with what has been reported in the scientific literature, what Strava did with their grade adjusted pace study based on the data uploaded by its users, or what anyone, who has ever been in the mountains knows from experience. I was excited to use PacePro in my ultra and trail runs, but it has been a total disappointment.
