Paretozen I was fortunate to be at this incredible event in 1986.....and it was indeed a very surreal experience! The spiritual energy, devotion, and sheer number of souls -- all concentrated in one place at the same time - for the purpose of uniting -- each in their own way with their concept of God or Higher Being ---- was a truly transcendental experience! It was and is --- a constant spiritual high -- that permeates the mind and soul --- and leaves an indelible mark upon your consciousness.

@@ShirleyMarieBradby their sadhu culture is older than history is recorded and their are sadhus have immense knowledge let me tell u some examples what sadhus have given to this world-:ayurveda, yoga, earth orbit, 9avgrahas or 9 planets, discovered gravity first, the first surgery, Acharya Kanad Father of Atomic Theory. ...
Law of Gravity by Bhaskaracharya II. ...

I prefer this sadhu life the life of freedom rather then living a life of a corporate slave.... It is slave that earn through out his life and make rich more richer and eventually die not taking anything in graveyard... This life of freedom impresses me... I will be very happy to see me dying and giving nothing to this world rather then feeling sad before dying and giving so much labour to this cruel and ugly world in which i'm temporary and this world is using me not that I'm using this world..... Free your self from all the bondages FREE yourself do not let this world USE you.... Do not waste your life for things those are temporary but focus on the stuff that is permanent that that is one true GOD

Some spectacularly dim people commenting here. But this is the collective subconscious when it's not just the collective id, so I guess we shouldn't expect very much wisdom.
The Kumbh Mela is one of the few gatherings that gives rise to even a spark of optimism for the future of humanity. 130 million people in total attended the last KM. Did you hear of any conflict? Any unnatural deaths? Whilst it's true that many of these sadhus are only performing tricks which entertain people and provide them with food and shelter, for very many of them there's a great deal more going on than can be seen by the, er, naked eye.
Anyway, thanks for making it Ira Cohen. For those who didn't realise it, the apparent dedicatee whose photo we saw floating down the river at the end was Julian Beck, founder and inspiration of the Living Theatre.

I'm sorry, bro. In hindsight, I see my comment was not well thought-out.

      Jango Cashato
Maybe you should send him a message asking for forgiveness.
Also, I should be asking you for forgiveness for not treating you with the unconditional love that everything deserves. Even though I acted in a way that was influenced by my unchecked emotions, I want you to reflect on the inappropriate nature of your comment, and I also ask that you ask this dude for forgiveness. Would you like to be treated that way? I imagine you wouldn't
So, I'm sorry bro. I could have explained this in a better way and since I didn't I made you uneasy, and I could have easily corrected your misinterperetation of correct conduct in reality by other means. So, here's a paraphrase of one of Confucious's teachings, which I'm sure most Americans have heard
"Do onto others as you would have done onto you."

There is no equivalent word in Sanskrit for "Religion". The closest is "dharma". But "dharma" means "duty". So friends no such thing as "Hinduism". Just a modern term for something called "Sanathana Dharma". Which represents much more than just a religion. It provides an entire worldview, way of life and with a coherent and rational view of reality. So, if you are born as a Hindu, Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc...please don't die as a Hindu, Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc.. Make use of your life and explore and seek your God. Be open minded. Don't let your ego cloud your views and opinions. Seek and get enlightened. Don't get deceived by the looks of these people at Kumb Mela. There are many dimensions to this. While the video was a treat, trust me the real treat is not something that can be captured on video. It is larger than Kumb Mela or anything. Btw you don't have to be at Kumb Mela, if you dare NOT to know your God thru others but to explore yourself and seek your God/Super-conscience/Paramathman/Universal Truth. If you are half successful then you will learn how much we all are connected. For the scientists, Systems Theory needs no further explanation once you are enlightened.

H"ind"uism = "ind"ia = "H"indi" etc all these come from common source of "Indus Valley civilization"..
People who named it Hinduism didnt know any better on what to call the religion/culture/way of living of descendats of Indus valley civlization... Right word which was used by local people themselves is "Sanatana Dharma" which means eternal way of life or eternal natural law...

No one is outsourcing IT to USA , im not American but im well in to IT , hardware side , no one is even allowed to enter those facilities let alone come in from uncontrollable source as india , Sandeep is talking about spiritualism , and indeed there is no way anything from west can come close to india and surrounding regions , but as well , you wont find atomic microscope in just a test facility in india or surrounding region in fact probably whole of Asia . IT's just the thing , materialism in the west , very good looking with eyes , and east very good at looking at the third eye , or mind, spiritualism . Why it is so , i can not tell , maybe it has something to do with Earth it self , or light , sun or stars , who knows . But Sundeep Jakhmola is indeed correct . I live in the middle . Between East and West , so my ppl know this for a fact . As we look to east or west we can see those differences very good . Maybe it is because mass migrations of ppl . Since Native Americans are spiritual as well but are taken over by more practical ppl . India it self is conquered by those , in every aspect but spiritualism . Cant have it all

Much less, the rest are just variations. This man is not doing anything else in his life than putting his legs behind the had. What is the point?
The commentador is saying some bull shit about chakras. This old man is making a show with his twisting and getting money for it. Easy way to make a living.

If one is not happy, do keep searching.. The answers will never end.. Many more will come looking, some pretend to find, some say there is nothing to find.. But for a chosen few, there is a marigold in eternal bloom at the other end of the rainbow..

Law of Gravity by Bhaskaracharya II. ...
Calculation about Earth by Bhaskaracharya I. ...
Acharya Charak - Father of Medicine. ...
Vymaanika Shaastra by Sage Bharadwaj - First Airplane of Earth.
Aryabhatta - motions of solar system
      Baidhayana discovered Pythagoras theorem
The kung-fu was originated from kalaripayatu a Indian teach them kungfu
The list is nearly infinite this is what sages have achieved before scientists when britishers came they also stole the knowledge and still today we have the proof of the book that these things were discovered before rest of the world

It's probably because they're not used to it and find it curious but disturbing (on some level).
Buddhism and Christianity have their own definitions and examples of "religious insanity" - and it is not looked down upon. E.g. Zen/Chan Buddhism is very foreign in its theological concepts and mannerisms to westerners, but instead of putting people off initially, it fascinates them (generally speaking).
These Hindu things are just on another level though, is what it looks like. I'd argue that even buddhist easterners won't understand monks (sadhus being the rough equivalent) smoking drugs and rubbing themselves with human ashes. They might even be offended.
The cultural barrier is that high - so don't take it personally.

@@himanshunagarwal1019 I fear you might have missed my point.
It was not about how Buddhism is theologically different from Hinduism (which it is). That's not what I was saying at all.
It's that the Hindu initiates, monks, display behavior that is extreme enough to provoke extreme responses. Cistercian monks are pretty much extreme also, but different. It doesn't evoke this sort of angered non-acceptance. Many forms of Buddhist monks could also be very much thought of as "extreme" in their practice, but not like this. They rather evoke some sort of curiosity, even if what they're doing doesn't immediately look like it's a rational thing to do.
      Hope this clears it up.

Nice gritty view of sadhus and Kumb. Very authentic. Note that some of the weapons 'dances' are holdovers from the old days of the Akharas being military orders. The Nagas were some of the most dangerous warriors in India for many centuries. Many of their rituals and habits were designed to create huge amounts of shakti in sadhus which could be used for fighting or for spiritual work or both.

All we can do is is disucuss, and some may change their ways. Best thing is, even if we do not debate, we still enjoy inner peace, knowing how things really are and get on with our mortal life in a goodly way. What else is there to do?

These are the Jim Bakkers, Jerry Falwells, Robert Tiltons and Joel Osteens of India. I'm not buying it, from the U.S. or India, but India is much more entertaining than anything we have in the U.S., most of which is frenetic bloviating and retroactive prophecy (i.e., God caused the hurricane that just happened). I attribute the better quality of entertainment in India to the higher level of competition there and the tradition of "anything goes" in Hinduism - an ancient religion that has had much more time to morph and metastasize. Great footage and well made-program, kudos.
