Paretozen I was fortunate to be at this incredible event in 1986.....and it was indeed a very surreal experience! The spiritual energy, devotion, and sheer number of souls -- all concentrated in one place at the same time - for the purpose of uniting -- each in their own way with their concept of God or Higher Being ---- was a truly transcendental experience! It was and is --- a constant spiritual high -- that permeates the mind and soul --- and leaves an indelible mark upon your consciousness.

There is no equivalent word in Sanskrit for "Religion". The closest is "dharma". But "dharma" means "duty". So friends no such thing as "Hinduism". Just a modern term for something called "Sanathana Dharma". Which represents much more than just a religion. It provides an entire worldview, way of life and with a coherent and rational view of reality. So, if you are born as a Hindu, Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc...please don't die as a Hindu, Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc.. Make use of your life and explore and seek your God. Be open minded. Don't let your ego cloud your views and opinions. Seek and get enlightened. Don't get deceived by the looks of these people at Kumb Mela. There are many dimensions to this. While the video was a treat, trust me the real treat is not something that can be captured on video. It is larger than Kumb Mela or anything. Btw you don't have to be at Kumb Mela, if you dare NOT to know your God thru others but to explore yourself and seek your God/Super-conscience/Paramathman/Universal Truth. If you are half successful then you will learn how much we all are connected. For the scientists, Systems Theory needs no further explanation once you are enlightened.
H"ind"uism = "ind"ia = "H"indi" etc all these come from common source of "Indus Valley civilization".. People who named it Hinduism didnt know any better on what to call the religion/culture/way of living of descendats of Indus valley civlization... Right word which was used by local people themselves is "Sanatana Dharma" which means eternal way of life or eternal natural law...
Beauty of aghoras is they don't have any desires, lust, feelings and so called western life style people call ignorant and spiritual but they are far better than human fights cause of getting needs Cheras is for concentration I tell you every thing they do having a great reasons behind it ,understanding is difficult than criticising.guys don't make any sensible comments we as Indians proud to have aghoras than any Paris attackers or gun laws in USA (club attackers ).thank you
Great film! Kumbh Mela seems like a feast for the senses so I have little doubt that the real Guru's and Sadhus stay in their retreats. If I was there I would simply sit on a roof and watch from a distance.
No one is outsourcing IT to USA , im not American but im well in to IT , hardware side , no one is even allowed to enter those facilities let alone come in from uncontrollable source as india , Sandeep is talking about spiritualism , and indeed there is no way anything from west can come close to india and surrounding regions , but as well , you wont find atomic microscope in just a test facility in india or surrounding region in fact probably whole of Asia . IT's just the thing , materialism in the west , very good looking with eyes , and east very good at looking at the third eye , or mind, spiritualism . Why it is so , i can not tell , maybe it has something to do with Earth it self , or light , sun or stars , who knows . But Sundeep Jakhmola is indeed correct . I live in the middle . Between East and West , so my ppl know this for a fact . As we look to east or west we can see those differences very good . Maybe it is because mass migrations of ppl . Since Native Americans are spiritual as well but are taken over by more practical ppl . India it self is conquered by those , in every aspect but spiritualism . Cant have it all
yeah I am confused...I love seeing this stuff and wondering how it would be possible. It's so far from anything I know and consider "safe." And a part of me is in awe, another part is revolted, yet another part is deeply in love with this place I can only see here on youtube.
There are not 84000 postures as the commentary says, not even 84. Much less, the rest are just variations. This man is not doing anything else in his life than putting his legs behind the had. What is the point? The commentador is saying some bull shit about chakras. This old man is making a show with his twisting and getting money for it. Easy way to make a living.
the point is suffering. if you suffer in these ways then you never have the suffering of others on your mind. do you see? love from planet earth to you mr ;)
Thank you Ira Cohen, for a lateral view of my country and its ancient thought.. India is all this and more.. One can end his search where he finds the answers.. If one is not happy, do keep searching.. The answers will never end.. Many more will come looking, some pretend to find, some say there is nothing to find.. But for a chosen few, there is a marigold in eternal bloom at the other end of the rainbow..
Excellent insight into the Kumbh Mela Festival, so much more enlightening than the sanitised stuff National Geographic and other such corporate companies put out. Thank you for sharing what looked like a lifetime experience.
+ManlyMan (男らしい男) You saying absolutely right, “seeing this from my own perspective“ that is all and most important in life, to have experience and how we feel about it. Just wanna to say there is the difference to watching this on youtube and actually be there. I am not being offended :) Cheers
***** Are you unaware of the illusory nature of reality? Nothing in this third density is real, it's all an illusion. Materialism is a fallacy. The only thing that is truly real is The Divine. I suppose it doesn't really matter what you know or think, whatever lessons you fail to learn in this life will be repeated in the next. Over and over and over, you'll learn one way or another. Even if it takes a hundred thousand lifetimes. Eventually you will see the truth.

Funny thing is Hindu people dnt usually write bad cmnts on other religions video on RUclips bt Its sad why Christian ,Muslim n Atheist commenting bad in this video ?? ! Camon Guyz ! Get a life ! I m a Christian bt I still feel SANATAN religion is the BEST ! Atleast they r not killing people around the world in the name of Religion n So called peace ! They r nt harmful soo stop hating nd DO UR OWN RELIGION PERFECTLY !!
It's probably because they're not used to it and find it curious but disturbing (on some level). Buddhism and Christianity have their own definitions and examples of "religious insanity" - and it is not looked down upon. E.g. Zen/Chan Buddhism is very foreign in its theological concepts and mannerisms to westerners, but instead of putting people off initially, it fascinates them (generally speaking). These Hindu things are just on another level though, is what it looks like. I'd argue that even buddhist easterners won't understand monks (sadhus being the rough equivalent) smoking drugs and rubbing themselves with human ashes. They might even be offended. The cultural barrier is that high - so don't take it personally.
@@celticwinter Buddhism is a branch of sanatan dharma he was a born hindu just because he chose to be an atheist doesn't make him separate religion Buddha gave teaching which is somehow simar to hinduism he is believed to be an avatar of lord vishnu even his prayers are same as hindu deity how can be Buddhism different from hinduism he was not the first atheist and not the first to get enlightenment
@@celticwinter sadhus are vegetarian they did smoke but it doesn't affect them they live in harsh condition where humans can't live like Himalayan caves their god is vegetarian also known as pashupatinath(means animal lover or guardian of animals) so how is it possible they deny the wishes of their god
@@himanshunagarwal1019 I fear you might have missed my point. It was not about how Buddhism is theologically different from Hinduism (which it is). That's not what I was saying at all. It's that the Hindu initiates, monks, display behavior that is extreme enough to provoke extreme responses. Cistercian monks are pretty much extreme also, but different. It doesn't evoke this sort of angered non-acceptance. Many forms of Buddhist monks could also be very much thought of as "extreme" in their practice, but not like this. They rather evoke some sort of curiosity, even if what they're doing doesn't immediately look like it's a rational thing to do. Hope this clears it up.
@@celticwinter mostly hindu don't eat non veg and those who eat is because of the westerns influence in India and the westerns are now trying to become vegetarians like us I can tell u that they say that these sadhus eat human flesh it is wrong they are pure veg eater(and they barely eat for months and years ) first of all there were no such things as monks it given by the westerns they didn't give themselves they are the disciple of Buddha but Buddha was never a God I mean lord vishnu born as Buddha not the first time to tell the world that only by following religion and worshipping God cannot give u enlightenment there are many ways of atheist just because he spread knowledge in some region where hinduism didn't had much influence it doesn't make him separate religion even India alone is fighting for Tibet and we are guardian dalai lama and we fight until Tibet is freed and we are not doing it for greed we also freed Bangladesh but I don't know why these Buddhists hate hindus nowadays
11:08 This is "Hath Yoga" Extreme kind of Yoga you ever saw. He will keep his hand in air for 12 years. I personally knew some Sadhu who stood for 12 years. Jai Bholey.
Nice gritty view of sadhus and Kumb. Very authentic. Note that some of the weapons 'dances' are holdovers from the old days of the Akharas being military orders. The Nagas were some of the most dangerous warriors in India for many centuries. Many of their rituals and habits were designed to create huge amounts of shakti in sadhus which could be used for fighting or for spiritual work or both.
Fighting is not any religion and it depends on the cause for which you fight. if u call me to kill you for enjoyment I will not but if u attack me or my family I will definitely respond
Indeed they had to make spiritual sacrifice to protect the Indian continent. The rituals designed for wartime have taken over. There are two Kundalini forces , the heart based one has been mostly lost
He is talking about Muslim invaders like Ahmed shah abdali and aurangzeb when they entered the scared city varanasi and mathura and destroyed the temples after defeating the kings when the news got to Naga sadhus they came to rescue and they literally burn them all that the mughal army ran for their lives the Nagas are skilled warriors who live peacefully they are the protectors of sanatan dharma they are a neutral army when their it is needed to protect their religion they will and they don't interfere any other religion or believe in forced religion convertion they live in Himalayan region without clothes in approx -45C° without feeling anything there are approx 18 lakh Naga sadhus in India
What you say is true, the problem is not faiths, but people who practice the faiths as relegions, they negate the examples of conduct of God they worships at times and even the very scriptures they chant. All we can do is is disucuss, and some may change their ways. Best thing is, even if we do not debate, we still enjoy inner peace, knowing how things really are and get on with our mortal life in a goodly way. What else is there to do?
They join kumbh mela every 12 years, go to kumbh next time if you want to witness them. As sanyasis dont live in cities, they live solitairy life in wildness.
Irwan Santoso Increasing westernization and globalisation. Also massive infrastructure development has led to easy access to such places. Also people have become very materialistic these days.. our culture is being destroyed via influence of western culture.
akash thats a nonsensical comment. people could have said the same about the east (ie india) in olden times. People are just drawn to progressive and new ideas.
I love you all, i understand all misunderstandings and the fear that may arise in a western minds witness, try to maintain compassion for your fellow man these are your brothers and sisters, acceptance or blind faith is not expected, mindfullness and love will conquer all, seek union with all creatures,
These are the Jim Bakkers, Jerry Falwells, Robert Tiltons and Joel Osteens of India. I'm not buying it, from the U.S. or India, but India is much more entertaining than anything we have in the U.S., most of which is frenetic bloviating and retroactive prophecy (i.e., God caused the hurricane that just happened). I attribute the better quality of entertainment in India to the higher level of competition there and the tradition of "anything goes" in Hinduism - an ancient religion that has had much more time to morph and metastasize. Great footage and well made-program, kudos.

Ramram Respect Peace Love ♥ 1 !
+Arun Kumar Hinduism is not necessarily a modern term; it was a way for the middle easterners to lump the various tribes in India together
Nice , Respect !

This was my favorite documentary just 2 min into, at 17:40 I fell in love.
Great documentary and an eye opener on Sadhus.
Thank You for a WonderfuL Video...I wouLd Love to go to a Kuhm MeLa FestivaL in the future...😄💛👌
🌈🌻Namastè🌾🌈
Great film! Kumbh Mela seems like a feast for the senses so I have little doubt that the real Guru's and Sadhus stay in their retreats. If I was there I would simply sit on a roof and watch from a distance.
Go watch guru quest series

India is and will remain a mystery for west, and I think there is no harm in that infact it's good for them.
So why on earth are we outsourcing our IT to them.....
AHAHAHAHA
Look at these Yogi's they look so delicate and how powerful from within they are have no disease while living in such conditions
That’s rich!
It's amazing to see these guys in the 21st century.
India i must go
the 86 year old knows all the poses of yoga. thats amazing.
+Dharam Scriptures Of course, hes been doing them for 86 years
There are not 84000 postures as the commentary says, not even 84.
Much less, the rest are just variations. This man is not doing anything else in his life than putting his legs behind the had. What is the point?
The commentador is saying some bull shit about chakras. This old man is making a show with his twisting and getting money for it. Easy way to make a living.
Dharam Scripturesroop

the point is suffering. if you suffer in these ways then you never have the suffering of others on your mind. do you see?
love from planet earth to you mr ;)
Thank you Ira Cohen, for a lateral view of my country and its ancient thought.. India is all this and more.. One can end his search where he finds the answers.. If one is not happy, do keep searching.. The answers will never end.. Many more will come looking, some pretend to find, some say there is nothing to find.. But for a chosen few, there is a marigold in eternal bloom at the other end of the rainbow..
Great stuff!
Thx...
Excellent.. see you in 2022 :)
Excellent insight into the Kumbh Mela Festival, so much more enlightening than the sanitised stuff National Geographic and other such corporate companies put out. Thank you for sharing what looked like a lifetime experience.
Wonderful poetic commentary and great filming.
Just Amazing! #incredibleindia
great movie .... really interesting
@38:11 wow. wow. wow.... wow. not sure what else to say. wow.
My experience the same, watching this..... just wow. not sure what else to say. wow.
40 minutes. Incredible
This commentators vocabulary is extremely trancendant
Your life is incomplete if you have never been to the Kumbh Mela.
+Mayur Panghaal did u go yet
+ManlyMan (男らしい男) seems much better then being on youtube
+ManlyMan (男らしい男) yeah, people who work in corporations 9-17 are living so meaningful etc
+ManlyMan (男らしい男) You saying absolutely right, “seeing this from my own perspective“ that is all and most important in life, to have experience and how we feel about it. Just wanna to say there is the difference to watching this on youtube and actually be there. I am not being offended :) Cheers
NATURAL SPIRIT 👍 keep smiling and the world will smile back ..
I was here at this Kumbh Mela after my Class-XII in Haridwar.
Very cool thanks for sharing
This is probably in the top 3 best videos I have ever seen on RUclips

Thank you Ira, you make my soul richer with this film
so cool so gladto find it, shared
Such a interesting video
some VERY negative comments by people that do not know shit abut India or Saddhus
***** Well, until you curb that vitriolic attitude of yours I'd say none.

This is what I say the true explanation of Hinduism In raw form in India!!!
forever0042000 that's my First impression of India and religion in that country. And if I ever go there. I won't be disappointed when I go. To me India is like that Before other Major religions came In to India proper. Before otherI hope that explains it for my point of view. I "HOPE" I understood your reply? Too give This reply. India IS a Some Place I want to visit🙂
their sadhu culture is older than history is recorded and their are sadhus have immense knowledge let me tell u some examples what sadhus have given to this world-:ayurveda, yoga, earth orbit, 9avgrahas or 9 planets, discovered gravity first, the first surgery, Acharya Kanad Father of Atomic Theory. ...
Law of Gravity by Bhaskaracharya II. ...
Calculation about Earth by Bhaskaracharya I. ...
Acharya Charak - Father of Medicine. ...
Vymaanika Shaastra by Sage Bharadwaj - First Airplane of Earth.
Aryabhatta - motions of solar system
Baidhayana discovered Pythagoras theorem
The kung-fu was originated from kalaripayatu a Indian teach them kungfu
The list is nearly infinite this is what sages have achieved before scientists when britishers came they also stole the knowledge and still today we have the proof of the book that these things were discovered before rest of the world
thanks for sharing this.
awesome video Namaste
Jai Bholey.
And when he goes to sleep?
I think I saw three guys doing this austerity. Hatha = forceful 👍
Yes i have also seen a yogi who kept his hand in air for so many years that was unbelievable

RANDALL OLEARY
Indeed they had to make spiritual sacrifice to protect the Indian continent. The rituals designed for wartime have taken over. There are two Kundalini forces , the heart based one has been mostly lost
He is talking about Muslim invaders like Ahmed shah abdali and aurangzeb when they entered the scared city varanasi and mathura and destroyed the temples after defeating the kings when the news got to Naga sadhus they came to rescue and they literally burn them all that the mughal army ran for their lives the Nagas are skilled warriors who live peacefully they are the protectors of sanatan dharma they are a neutral army when their it is needed to protect their religion they will and they don't interfere any other religion or believe in forced religion convertion they live in Himalayan region without clothes in approx
-45C° without feeling anything there are approx 18 lakh Naga sadhus in India
India is freedom and all individualism.
Y
What you say is true, the problem is not faiths, but people who practice the faiths as relegions, they negate the examples of conduct of God they worships at times and even the very scriptures they chant.
All we can do is is disucuss, and some may change their ways. Best thing is, even if we do not debate, we still enjoy inner peace, knowing how things really are and get on with our mortal life in a goodly way. What else is there to do?
These guys are sooooooo stoned !
+rideforever whoooaaaa ride foreverrrrr
+rideforever holy stoned

great documentary
We dont get to see such Sadhus now-a-days. What a shame.
They join kumbh mela every 12 years, go to kumbh next time if you want to witness them. As sanyasis dont live in cities, they live solitairy life in wildness.
What's the reason?
Irwan Santoso Increasing westernization and globalisation. Also massive infrastructure development has led to easy access to such places. Also people have become very materialistic these days.. our culture is being destroyed via influence of western culture.
Akash Chhagani...mmrettrtyetrtttuioiueooo
akash thats a nonsensical comment. people could have said the same about the east (ie india) in olden times. People are just drawn to progressive and new ideas.
definitely better than organized religion..
Wow I wanted to watch this back in 2012 but it wasnt on youtube!
jay shambho nice video
Jim Bakkers..lol seriously?! Have you met one of these guys!?
very good film.....love them....
