    I made this cardigan with a 100% cotton yarn. It is one of my favourites and I always get compliments when I wear it. Very clear instructions. However, Susannah, I decided to crochet mine as one piece. I did not have to sew the back together, as I didn’t want a seam at the back. Love this pattern 💞🇿🇦

    I love this pattern, especially the diagrams. I discovered them a few years ago and they make following a pattern so much easier. I also like that you show that everyone makes mistakes at times, and you leave those parts in the video instead of doing an edit and removing them. I can't wait to make one of these for myself and for my sisters for birthday gifts.

    • @SusannasHobbies
      @SusannasHobbies  4 года назад +1

      Thank you very much for your comment. I always make mistakes and I thought it might be our help to remind us which parts are difficult and which points we often misunderstand during reading written patterns. Patterns sometimes skip the detailed points that we need.
      I'm very satisfied with your comment that you understand what I want to tell you all.
      Please enjoy your crochet life.

    Suzanne, I love this cardigan!! You are so talented! If I crochet this for my daughter who is 5'10" 's tall, will it be long enough?

    • @SusannasHobbies
      @SusannasHobbies  8 месяцев назад

      Thank you for your asking. You can increase the length of multiples of 3 stitches while making the foundation stitches. Basically this is designed for the American, so I heard it is a little too long or a little too wide from some Japanese. Also you can check the finished length from the pattern linked below. Please read through first, and make a gauge swatch to check the measurements.
      cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0711/5132/1403/files/RHC0129-016177M.pdf
      101sts in total for the length and 21sts will be 8in, so should be nearly 40in with 101sts.

    Hi Susanna - I followed your instructions to the smallest detail but the cardigan did not come out right! It’s too wide and bunches in the back and also short! What did I do wrong? Maybe I shouldn’t have used acrylic yarn?

    • @SusannasHobbies
      @SusannasHobbies  3 года назад

      Thank you very much for crocheting.
      A1 : I don't know how slim and tall you are, but one of my subscribers once said this size is too wide because of US size.
      A2 : Also, this pattern uses the fabric vertically, it means this cardigan tend to be wider because any crochet fabrics stretch side to side when we use them vertically, so in this case, please check fitting time to time during crocheting, if you need length, please add 3 stitches each till your favorite length.
      A3 : If you don't like the bunches at the back, please try one way crocheting, it means when you finish one side armhole, please crochet the back panel in one piece, then please open the other armhole in the same manner as before, then please crochet the other front panel, lastly sew the shoulder openings. Some viewers recommended this way. This way gives you more flexible fitting on your body, and less sewing, but the one weak point is that the sage stitch goes one way.
      A4 : Original pattern also uses acrylic yarn, and many people use acrylic yarn, but they are satisfied with it, so I don't think this is the cause, but before starting, it's a nice tip to crochet a gauge swatch to check the softness, if you feel not soft enough, please try larger size hook or narrower yarn.
      I hope these help you in some points. God bless you.

      Hi Mariska, thank you very much.
      The pattern says "2 balls 6631 Morning Star, RED HEART® Hygge Charm™, Art E882 available in 7 oz (198 g), 432 yd (395 m) balls", so 14oz or 400g, and 864 yd or 800m.

      Susanna's Hobbies hey, I already made one but it definitely seems a little too big for for me. I did started with 103 then did 16 rows of the sage pattern to armhole then after armhole I did 20 rows. How do I make this an extra small?

    • @SusannasHobbies
      @SusannasHobbies  5 лет назад

      @@jessicamartinez1333 , if you want to reduce the width, please decrease multiples of 2 rows. If you want to make smaller armholes, please increase and decrease multiples of 3 stitches on L and R. If you want to make a shorter size, please decrease multiples of 3 stitches on FDS. Or, please wear your work on your body to check the fitting, and check how many sage pattern you don't need, and reduce rows of front panel and back panels. For slim bodies, the difference of 4 rows of front and back is too much, I think. If you make it as 2 rows difference, it still has 4 rows difference when you attach both L and R into one.
      I hope this advise will help you.
      Please ask me anytime.

    • @SusannasHobbies
      @SusannasHobbies  5 лет назад +1

      Margaret, anytime.
      Ch is for the length, so usually every size uses same ch. Rows are for the width, it varies according to the size.
      Please check the original pattern.
      www.redheart.com/files/patterns/pdf/LW5851-Sage-Stitch-Long-Cardigan-Free-Crochet-Pattern.pdf
      Details are described below.
      [Length]
      101FDC or, ch101 + ch2(additional) and divide into ch3 + 100dc (count as 101dc).
      [Width]
      XL and 2X are 20 rows (10 pairs) in total to the armholes, 3 rows for the armhole, and 24 & 26 rows more, it means 47 & 49 rows in total including armhole split, then finish with V-st.

    • @SusannasHobbies
      @SusannasHobbies  2 года назад

      This pattern is made up with multiples of three stitches, so please count by three to your preferable length and after that crochet three chains to count as a double crochet, and this chain three is the first double crochet. This pattern starts with foundation double crochet and this technique is not suitable for beginners, so that I recommend the way which I described above. After deciding foundation chains, I think you can follow by this written pattern.
      I hope this makes sense to you 🤗

    Lovely pattern, thanks for the English tutorial. I have question I am using a thin cotton yarn for this cardigan with 3.75 mm Hook so it will be much smaller than yours if I worked with the same no of chains, so is there any increase I should consider or just work till get the required written length? also any suggestion concerning the arm holes?

    • @SusannasHobbies
      @SusannasHobbies  4 года назад +1

      Hi, thank you for watching my video, if you would like to increase foundation chains with smaller hook, please increase by multiples of 3 stitches till the written length you need.
      Also, when you work armholes, please skip same group number both LH & RH after recalculating the length according to the difference between written gauge and your gauge. I remember the original pattern that we have to skip 8 groups, and they are 24sts, I don't remember the gauge, but if written gauge says 12 sts, and your gauge is 24sts, it is double, so please skip 48 sts, and they are 16 groups, for example.

    Following the you tube instructions using 103 chains and it doesn’t seem to be the length of the picture. I think something is wrong or I did not measure right length. I need some help please.

    • @SusannasHobbies
      @SusannasHobbies  4 года назад

      Please make a gauge, and check your tension, there are 2 possibilities : 1. wrong hook size for you, 2. too slim yarn for this project. Cause 1 : please change the larger hook. Cause 2 : please use thicker yarn or use 2 strands together.
      Also, there is another easy solution, please make chains with multiple of 3 stitches plus 1 to fit the length, in that case, you have to crochet more than tutorial, more stitches and more rows. If you don't care, this is the easiest solution.

      Hi, Susanna,
      thank you so much for your help. I do have a copy of the pattern however I’m still learning how to read them so I’m stuck, regarding Body piece 1, Body piece 2 I thought I was making one piece. Watching the you tube video is a little confusing for me because you are making smaller sample using two pieces. I’m sure I’ll get it eventually.

    • @SusannasHobbies
      @SusannasHobbies  4 года назад

      Do you want to make it seamless one piece?
      Body 1 and body 2 is LH & RH, the difference between 1 & 2 are armholes way.
      Body 1 is starting from top, body 2 is starting from bottom.
      If you want to make it seamless one piece, I believe the way of armholes of RH & LH is totally same.
      If you are strugging with the pattern, please look at the last photo, and please make a very small sample with left over yarn like I did.
      Sometimes, it is a good practice to make a small sample.
