Agreed Las Vegas has a lot of potential in space, technology and renewable energy manufacturing especially with energy abundance and with the new high speed rail talent from LA can also commute easily to areas around Las Vegas.
Between this and the movie studios Vegas is going down the drain for the poor or middles class….we will be like LA, and the Bay Area where all this tech is now. Not sure why they need another hub.
Jumping in to share a bit about Tech Alley. Tech Alley is the "meetup of meetups" where folks can get together to share what they know about entrepreneurship and technology. I founded Tech Alley in 2021 with the plan to bring all the meetups into one spot, so folks didn't need to scramble around town trying to find technology and startup groups. What it created was a community-led tech and startup scene where folks share insights on how to bring ideas to market, how to raise capital, or start technology careers. The Vegas event has been going strong every month for 3 years, with the next event happening this Saturday. The event is free, open to all, and is held the 3rd Saturday of the month in the Vegas Downtown Arts District. Yesterday's event was the first one in Henderson, which was exciting. I grew up in Vegas, and what I want is for LA and the Bay Area to want to be like us, instead of the other way around! Here is the site - www.techalley.org.
It's disappointing to see locals habitually turn down and shun incentives the valley creates to bring new opportunities. It's important to diversify the economy of the valley not only to support the influx of people but also provide a sustainable future for young locals who don't want to work hospitality. Fact of the matter is the metropolitan area has long outgrown the ability to rely solely on the strip. If you don't like the city looking and feeling like a city, you can always move to Mesquite or Pahrump. This isn't Winemucca. The film industry brings in jobs of every trade and becoming a tech hub would pressure the county into putting tax dollars that are being wasted time and time again into the schools to be able to create well-educated young people. This coming from myself, a product of the CCSD, we need to do better
"Don't California my Nevada" is a valid sentiment. What is invalid is pulling everyone down with you because you refuse to adapt to the changing world. Or we can just become Atlantic City. I'm sure hospitality reliance will work out on us long term
The amount of complaining that people in Vegas don't get paid enough and there aren't any good jobs , they cannot afford to rent or buy a home, yet want to fight real paying jobs.… Just weird.
It is cool to see Las Vegas grow in all kinds of areas, not just on the Strip. 😀
It's about TIME!! give some of these Las Vegas folks a possible taste of what it's like to earn REAL MONEY!!! LV needs a tech community.

And once again, cost of living will increase *serious eye roll*
Guess you want people to stay poor working distribution hub, casino and service industry jobs…. Got it.
A lot of new positive things are happening in our valley as well as the state! Looking forward to 2025 and beyond!

High-tech companies should be more centrally located to the Las Vegas metropolitan region. Eldorado Valley is over forty miles away from Skye Canyon.
Oh... great...
