Shanty, I want to thank you for doing these videos. These videos done in your kitchen reminds me of my Grandmother who came from India as an indentured labourer and settled in Mayo Village, Trinidad. I never met her. But visits to the family home bore a resemblance to your kitchen set up, except that hers was smaller and under a little shack house. All I have of her is a photograph taken the day she died. But I live in awe and admiration of her courage to provide for her family of ten children in a kitchen similar to yours. Of course no fridge, stove or electricity. I never tasted her cooking but every one of your videos make me think that her food may be as good as yours. I haven't tasted your cooking either but everything tells me that it is GREAT FOOD! Love you, Shane Winner (Trinidad)
Good day foodie nation, you guys definitely found a gem.Shanty you are so authentic and proud lady i could watch you all day. Please allow her to be a regular she is fantastic. Thanks for bringing her on,stay safe and blessed.
Watching auntie Shanti cooking on wood fire reminds me of my childhood. My parents used to cook on wood fire before they had stove. And cooking on wood fire you got the best and delicious food. God bless you auntie Shanti.

I followed her lead on making some curry chicken and let me tell you everybody say it was the best curry they ever eat. Next time I go back home I definitely going to pay her a visit.

Shantie love looking at your videos. Also its wonderful to hear the chicken crowing in the background. I learned something today . I never knew you could freeze whole peppers 😇
Bandhania and tumeric root too! These ingredients are expensive in NY so when I see a "bargain" I snatch them up. There will be no spoilage going on in the fridge "crisper" again! BTW, peel and grate pumpkin (shredder side of box grater) portion out in zip-loc bags and store in freezer. Happy Cookin'!! 🤔
Girl u remind me of the good old days.your cooking is the original method.people now a days.change the real cooking of the Indian food.i cook just like u minus d CHULA.GOD BLESS U FOR SHARING YOUR TALENTS.☺😄😁😙
Wish I could get some over here. So sorry that it,s not possible because I live in England. I feel homesick. Real good food. Thank you my dear lady. Come over here.
We have forgotten the firewood. This type of traditional cooking is important for a sustainable economy. We use locally available wood for fuel. In remote villages, in India , this method of cooking, using locally available dry vegetation for fuel, continues. We need not kill the trees for fuel, we can prune them and pruned twigs and stems are used as fuel. Nice video. Thanks for bringing out the cooking skills of Trinidad. Your skills have the origins from Indian subcontinent. Am I right? Thank you , sister. Yes, you look like my blood sister.
You are correct our ancestors were brought from India in 1845 mostly from the states of Bihar and UP as indured labors by the British to work in sugar plantation after the end of slavery they were only payed 25 cents or less, we are their descents. You have to put plenty oil to bunge it that's how it does be more tasty
Its a lot of meat, in proportion the oil and salt is not that much

Omg ..curry just like my mother used to cook!!! In the fireside too!!!
Just curious what people used to do when there was no fridge or freezer? Did they just use dried pepper?
Many Trinidadians have pepper trees or guaranteed one of your neighbor's would have a tree, well that's my experience x
You froget salt 🧂 they use salt which is a powerfull preservetive they also use to ferment it.
Hi Shanty, i saw you have a big iron tawah, can you tell me where you bought it. I really need one just like that. Thanks .
Shanty I love hearing the roosters crowing in the bsckground
