Same intelligence? "Democracy is the worst form of government" and "Leadership doesn't matter". You can find a lot of those in Russia.

When I was in high school the football coach had to teach my political science class. He said his vote was more valuable than others because he studied the issues. The thing that I took away from this is that football coaches should not teach political science and political science teachers should not coach football. In a democracy the average, or uneducated voter in this situation, should be able to choose who represents them. A more educated person does not have any more of a right to this than anybody else.

To live in a Democracy mean the voters are expected to stay informed, follow news etc, make up their mind, discuss and make a decision on the day they vote, for this to work the media have an important role in informing the population, if people do not understand this, Democracy are only a hollowed out corpse

Russians built and still run megaprojects like trans-siberian rail or biggest dams, nuclear stations and nuclear icebreakers, space rockets and even only working space toilet. To support this level of engineering, you need an army of engineers. Not just a simple engineer minded people, but a real engineers. And Russia has them. When you hear that nuclear submarine is the most difficult construction in the world, remember that Russia also has them and still builds them.
So, my point is, Russia has a smart people. And those smart people don't disagree with Russian politics, otherwise they wouldn't built all those icebreakers, submarines, nuclear stations, they would just move to other countries and live there.

Aleksei is a very thoughtful man. Democracy does have some negatives. That is why the founding fathers of the U.S. created the electoral college. First to partially even out power between small and large states and secondly to allow a potential safety mechanism against mass idiocy. The problem with excluding the drunkard is that the elite will hold all the power and though they may be well educated they are still often corrupt and they most often vote in favor of their own interests but when there is a war they want the uneducated drunkard to fight it. Power needs many checks and balances.

Even religion can be corrupted because religion on earth is managed by men, and no matter how well intentioned men can be, the desire for increase and maintain their power is almost always too much for them to ignore. As far as democracy goes, the idea is sound, but our founding father could never foresee or take into consideration the money that is behind the special interest groups and the major corporations that are the real powers of a “democracy”. These are the groups that will always run our governments, and it does not matter who wins from which party. You cannot get the backing from any party without making certain concessions or agreements with these special interest groups and corporations in order to get the money you need to run your campaign. Even an independent candidate needs a large amount of money to run a political campaign for airtime, campaign ads, etc., which he cannot get without getting significant corporate backing. We just keep voting to keep these special interest groups and corporations in position to help themselves.

    • @TM10000
      @TM10000 Год назад +2

@@fadiaz1969 Yep, organized religion is just another power structure and can be equally self interest motivated. I agree that special interest groups and corporations are a huge part of the current power structure. It looks like we are going to end up with two major presidential candidates in 2024 though 2/3rds of the population say they don't want either of them. That should be a huge rallying cry for an independent candidate but the likelihood of that candidate winning are still small because too many people are part of the ingrained structure and afraid upsetting the apple cart. And even if an independent candidate did win they would be road blocked every step when trying to make change. Perhaps things just need to get really bad before there is real change.

Disregarding Russia open protests USA was installing their weapons along Russia's border since 1999.What is Israel doing to the Palestinian people is only possible with USA as a main contributor .Seeing these patterns why anybody sane would be willingly want such a leader.? and still is happening .That,s is a shame.

I told her no; I didn't. What I expected to do was show anyone else who was around, listening or reading the debate, that the view of the person I was arguing with didn't exist in a vacuum. That the points discussed weren't a universal truth, widely accepted. To show a resistance to whatever the person I was arguing with was selling, whether it was about social responsibility, criminal justice, government policy, military activity, or moral relativism.

Totally agree (almost)... Pure democracy often results in mob rule. In the U.S. we have many Democrats pushing for just that.. mob rule. In 1787, Americans gathered on the steps of Independence Hall to await the news of the government our founders had crafted. They asked Benjamin Franklin, ‘What do we have, a republic or a monarchy?’ Franklin replied, ‘A republic, if you can keep it.’ Not a democracy.. a republic! OTOH, it's a slippery slope to decide who can, and who cannot cast a vote...

I think your main problem is the two party system.
For someone from outside the U.S. it seems like a nightmare because all extreme movements split up on these two parties, which leaves room for extremists to actually influence government politics - more than in countries where there are several parties and political extremists may push the public debate in a certain direction, but not the government actions (except the extremist party win the election).
Think there should a reform of base democracy - somewhere between the US system and the systems aboard). Future will be „interesting“

Democracy need an equal frame to work, the problem in the USA is the unlimited funding that allow rich lobbies to push their candidates in order to fullfill their own agenda. Real democracies apply a fund cap for parties and candidates, a project and a vision vs. another project and vision. In USA is the one with the biggest budget that can speak louder in the media buying space, that's why you cant'have universal care that needs a more equitable tax system : the richs prefer to spend their money to fund candidates that will cut their tax. Etc.

Dear 1420, I'm so glad you came across yet another individual whose words were so powerful they were worthy of a separate video... There's a whole discussion in the comments about his appraisal of democracy, but I understand why an intelligent, right-minded person would speak so bitterly at this point. I found his silences, the time he took to answer some questions, very moving. I hope that he and russians like him manage to stay safe in the coming year, and bring about the change they so badly want. That includes you guys! My best wishes for 2024 ❤
Practical point: is it just me, or is the soundtrack slightly out of synch with the footage? It may be worth going back and fixing it if you can.

I agree, and there is something more then just bitterness in his appraisal of democracy: I think it was a provocative statement while he wanted to point out that people are responsible about the situation, in particular in Russia. I don't think he wanted to discuss about the "Platonic democracy" where rulers are themselves philosophers... that was not the point here.

Best comment I’ve heard from an independent thinking Russian . As an American who keeps tab on world issues and the worsening Politcal landscape in our own country I agree whole heartedly with his word. World citizens scrolling past , or switching the channel when they see the destruction of human beings right in front of our faces speaks volumes as to the problems . In our complacency we are co-creating and supporting individuals and governments to make life and death decisions that impact our fellow human beings . When enough people heal their fear we will stand united together and stop the travesties that are happening …United we can stop the wars.

Direct democracy is dangerous. I agree. There are many styles of representative democracy and liberal institutions, such as independent courts, to protect rights, or merit based executive departments to preserve expertise however. In the end, Russia as a central European country or Russia, the oblasts, districts, and territories, (Mir Rusky?) may require different different governing structures. Questions of that nature would be Russian questions for Russians to solve. Happy New Year 1420. Thanks for what you bring.

      Finally, someone reasonable!
I think Russia's administrave division is a mess. It should be redone completely, with equal units (at least at names, republic, for example). But I agree they should have different governing styles. What's good for Novgorod might be unacceptable for Tatarstan and so on.
In my ideal world, Russia will be a confideration of different republic with capital in Great Novgorod, not Moscow.
