@Britannia Peaky Blinders; drawing attention to the fact this sectarian song was created by a British Fascist, then popularised by Rangers. Good to know where they stand
@Britannia Billy Boys originated in the 1920s as the signature tune of the Brigton Boys, also called The Billy Boys of Brigton Cross, who were a Protestant street gang in Bridgeton led by Billy Fullerton" "Fullerton was a member of the British Fascists who was awarded a medal for strike-breaking during the 1926 General Strike and formed a Glasgow branch of the British Union of Fascists" Sounds like a charming lad.
Reminds me of a scene from Get Smart; "...and [the captain of the ship] lost two vessels during the war." "Allied or enemy?" "...One of each" "A man of divided loyalties ay?"
Isn't it just? I'm an Irish Catholic from the North of Ireland with nationalistic views, but this is some tune. What's the craic from Derry/Londonderry?
@Evan O'Uaill Billy Fullerton led a razor gang called the Billy Boys. Protestants and Catholics were killing each other left and right. This was the Billy Boys song...
we have no problem with irishmen or regular catholics. Practice your faith, celebrate your history. Our problem (in scotland) is with wee bitter ira wannabe republicans who want to destroy our union and tarnish our heritage. That’s all.

What a great melody and catchy phrases. I was taken to many Rangers games by my blessed dad and took buses to Ibrox, the whole bus would sing as loud as they could, and it still happens. Numbers dropping as people don't go to pubs as much and just drink and take the train/subway. Yes it is sectarian and could have adverse effects on those targeted by the song, I accept that, and I won't go into the double standards etc whataboutery. Point is I grew up with buses full, stadiums full, and pubs full of people singing songs and this was the number one favourite... joined with a couple others. I can't help but start to sing it sometimes and I know I could get into trouble if someone hears and reports it, but thankfully my neighbours are bluenoses so I can sing along and reminisce in nostalgia of my past. I need to watch myself tho. At 18 I was at a house party full of catholics (my friend was catholic, and celtic supporters) and the police came to stop the party and tel everyone to get home. I started singing the Billy Boys outside a kebab shop without even considering someone might want to knock me out or worse. Thankfully a fellow bluenose friends laughing his head of told me to stfu and it was honestly difficult to shut up because I just wanted to sing the song that my dad, friends, buses and stadiums full of people sung.
@@99oilers55 Actually the main reason is that when I watched Peaky Blinders TV series, I was curious about Billy boys and of course I enjoyed their song. Their not "pure badass." Their leader beat up a boy who couldn't defend himself since if he did he would get shot. They do put them to shame brutality wise sort of. Since lots of the other brutal scenes we're on the side of the people committing the violence. Such as Tommy beating the IRA member to death or him fighting and killing the British soldier who tries to shag Lizzie. The Billy boys scene is supposed to make you uncomfortable because it's one of the villians committing extremely gory violence on a character the viewers are attached to and care about. It's supposed to make you wince not make you go "aw yeah."
Ionic Grenade If it was the peaky’s who did that to one of there enemies they would be “pure badass” so he isn’t wrong. It was the best entrance for them possible.
@@Jamie-kv9eg no no I'm saying that it was a great introduction to the Billy boys. It does everything it's supposed to. It makes me uncomfortable and uneasy. If the Peaky blinders brutally beat a poor gypsy boy and strung him up on a cross while his father was forced to watch. It would not me pure badass it would make me just as uncomfortable and it would horrify me just as much. It would be like Arthur killing Lynda's friend it's a scene with horrific violence it in that's supposed to make you uncomfortable.
