Good video as always. Just a word about airlines. We are weeks away from our flight to Thailand with our cat. Qatar airlines (and several other airlines that fly to Thailand) do not allow dogs or cats to fly in the cabin, they have to go in the cargo hold. We didn’t want our cat down there for such a long flight. We found Korean based Asiana Air that allows dogs and cats (provided they are of a certain size and weight) to fly in the cabin. Hope this helps someone.
Yes, I just read that today, I’m glad as I prefer Korean air. Each airline is different and Korean air allows pets under 15 lbs or 7kg total weight w/carrier to fly in cabin.

I'm so glad you had a positive experience with Qatar Airways but I feel obligated to share mine so people can be warned. When I moved my cat with me from Indonesia back to the States, I had an absolutely horrific experience with them. I had spoken to them at least 20 times over the phone to prepare for our trip back to the US, and had used every possible measure to confirm that she was booked for the same flight as me since she had to be in cargo rather than the cabin with me. So I flew from Bali to Jakarta (all animals have to exit the country through Jakarta), and when I arrived to check-in for our big flight from Jakarta to the US, they suddenly told me they could not take her on that flight because they didn't have enough room in cargo. Keep in mind, I had called nearly everyday for weeks leading up to this flight to confirm that she was booked and ready to go. But last minute they canceled her booking and pressured me to get on the plane while they sent her on another flight two days later. WHAT?! I told them absolutely no way, I would not leave her behind. So they also had to rebook my flight for two days later. We were stranded in Jakarta for two days, I had to look for a hotel in the middle of the night (because our flight was scheduled to leave around midnight and I went back and forth with them for HOURS), of course most hotel receptions were already closed for the night and so it took hours to find a room. She had to stay with me inside of this hotel for two days and I had to take her on a leash outside to use the bathroom because I didn't have a litterbox, the whole time I'm terrified she would run away because she was not used to city traffic/noise. It was the most horrific and traumatizing experience for us both. Once we finally got on the plane two days later, I felt some relief, only to land in Chicago and see that she was completely covered in her own feces and urine, and had not been fed or watered during the entire 30+ hour flight/layover. The worst part of all this is they never showed an ounce of concern, empathy or compassion during this whole process and gave me attitude and annoyed stares during every bit of communication during this whole fiasco. And when I reached out to them through email after I got home, I didn't even get a response or any kind of acknowledgement, much less any kind of compensation for our troubles (the extra cost of hotels/transportation/rebooking flights/etc). Again, I'm so glad you had a better experience as I wouldn't wish what I went through on anyone! I am now planning to move my dog to Thailand (my sweet kitty passed about a year ago) and came across this video, and you're right on the surface Qatar Airways seems like the only feasible option to take my dog but I am absolutely TERRIFIED of booking with them again. 😓
Forgot to mention, I had to carry 200+ pounds of luggage BY MYSELF in and out of the airport multiple times, up to the top floor of this hotel, etc. because of everything being rebooked. No one in the airport or Qatar staff offered to help even with that part. So mindblowing.
Omg that is just awful!!! I'm so sorry you and your kitty had to go thru such an awful experience! We would be just as devastated!!! We have four cats and are researching the pros/cons of a move and came across this informative video and your comment. Again, so sorry for your ordeal and for your loss of your kitty. We flew into Bangkok on Qatar Airways. When we moved here it was a few years ago and we had to quarantine in a hotel for 16 days in Bangkok. Hi, what kind of kennel(brand) you used. I will bring my dog to Thailand from the US, but Qatar Airways doesn't except Chihua mixed with Jack Russell. I found the airline that does except JackChi, Lufthansa. It's very costly but for my dog it ok. Three things they want for me to provide are: Dog must have Microchip, Health Certificate and Form CDC. The Form CDC, I'm a little confuse, because when I read about CDC Form, they are talking about importing dog into the US. Can you help clarify me on this matter. Thank you very much and hope to see in Thailand.

Here is a link to an embassy in the US that might help you sort out the dog paperwork, etc. washingtondc.thaiembassy.org/en/page/bring-pets-to-thailand. And we used the Petmate Sky Kennel crate for our dogs, we did have to change out the plastic screws for metal ones though in order to meet airline requirements. I was hoping you were going to do a video on this as a follow up to the one you guys did when you traveled for Covid. We are moving the end of Aug or beginning of Sep and we are taking Quatar airways also thanks to your video when you both first arrived about 2 years ago. But you mentioned someone also checks the pets during the flight? That would be amazing. When we leave the house we are practicing with our pets when they stay at home and turn on the sound of a large airplane to get them used to the sound! Lol

Tony a few questions for you: (1) We live in Hong Kong and have a 9 year old Jack Russell (long legged) would our dog need to be in quarantine? (2) Which area in Chiang Mai is dog friendly ie Apartment's? (3) If you have a local agent that would be wonderful (4) do you have a long term Visa to stay in Thailand? (5) How is the weather these days guess its the rainny season now appears January to April is the burning season?
oh forgot to mention that if were still in Hong Kong are there direct flights to Chiang Mai (I know Cathay Pacific has direct flights or HK Express) more about Dog being in the cargo hold does Chiang Mai airport have quarantine?
It may show different on the embassy sites because pit bulls and Am Staffs are a banned breed in Australia, whereas in the US they are not. I’d still do my research, we own two and are planning on moving to Thailand, once I find out more I’ll update my post.
As far as I’m aware pitbulls are allowed from the United States as they are not a banned breed here, I got my information when I emailed the embassy and was told all breeds are welcome!
Hi and thank you for all of your videos. We are moving to Chiang Mai in a few months from California with our 55 lb dog and we were wondering if we could ask you two questions. 1) One of the requirements we saw was that we need a Microchip Certificate. She does have the correct type of Microchip and is registered with 24petwatch, but do you remember having to provide this and if so can you remember how you got a certificate? 2) DO you know of a website or company that sells suitable dog crates for Quatar airlines? Hi Steve. Glad you found the video! No, we don't feed raw...the lady that watched them for us in Bangkok when we were in our quarantine hotel for 16 days fed them raw. I bet the pet stores would be able to help with this, we shop at one called PetMart in Hang Dong and they have lots of different types of food. Not sure if they have raw though because we haven't actively looked for it. Take care and I hope you are feeling better! :)
Do you have an email or messenger Want to know where you can walk your dogs We’re used to going in woods beaches around lakes up mountain Not walk around the houses on lead Is this possible
We always walk our dogs on leashes. I wouldn’t suggest letting them walk freely, there are too many Soi (street) dogs here. We are in a neighborhood and walk them around here, it’s a pretty large community and they are small dogs. There are dog friendly Facebook groups for Chiang Mai and other areas of Thailand. You could join and I’m sure you’d find lots of info about where other folks walk their dogs. 😊🙏🏻🇹🇭
I still shake my head when people take their pets with them overseas and act surprised when they encounter issues or additional ongoing expenses. My opinion, is don't take them. There are plenty of needy animals in the destination country. Also provides a better chance to get a pet that is acclimated and will have all the local shots.
But if you have a loved pet in you home country are you to leave them and then they become a rescue? Agree there are plenty of needy animals but that does not negate the pets you already have. We can always rescue another when we arrive in our new home :)

I'm in this process right now. Definitely stressful. Especially since he is 121 lbs. I can't just fly him on just any flight. I'm looking at a pet relocation service. But it's super pricey.
Dress him up and put on makeup. Say it identifies as your girlfriend. No one will care. ;)
@@darwinjina 🤣🤣🤣🤣
How did this work out for you? I have a 40lb pitbull 🥲
Which airlines did you guys use to get dogs to CNX? I'm from Minnesota.
We flew Qatar Airways into Bangkok and then hired a van to drive us to Chiang Mai. This was during COVID times when we had to quarantine for 16 days in Bangkok.
Which airline did you fly over from US? i thought I read that Qatar only if service dog. I have mini dashound.
We did use Qatar airlines and they were fantastic.
I was hoping you were going to do a video on this as a follow up to the one you guys did when you traveled for Covid. We are moving the end of Aug or beginning of Sep and we are taking Quatar airways also thanks to your video when you both first arrived about 2 years ago. The piece of mind Quatar airways gives for pets. I called them and talked to them about their climate controlled area for pets in the layover in Doha. And that made me feel better too. But you mentioned someone also checks the pets during the flight? That would be amazing. When we leave the house we are practicing with our pets when they stay at home and turn on the sound of a large airplane to get them used to the sound! Lol
Can’t you go to the temples in Bangkok (what arun etc) because of the street dogs? We’re doing 4 weeks of vacation in Bangkok and I already wanted to see a few temples, now I’m scared....have a little chihuahua
No quarantine for the dogs. Try Alice with www.mychiangmaihome.com/2021/
Weather is rainy. 🌧️
Nice vlog. What's a good vet in the Hang Dong area. We moved to this area this month and need to find a good vet.
Siri pet hospital
@@TheNarrowGate Thanks
I have a mini Doxie, so I know how prone to anxiety they are. How well your one took the travel in cargo?
They did real well. No issues.
What about for exotics like Osteolaemus tetraspis, Hemidactylus coalescens and Sceliphron sp?
Please try and import a Dwarf crocodile. I would love to hear how that went. 😉
It may show different on the embassy sites because pit bulls and Am Staffs are a banned breed in Australia, whereas in the US they are not. I’d still do my research, we own two and are planning on moving to Thailand, once I find out more I’ll update my post.
Thank you 🙏
@@TheNarrowGate you’re welcome!!! Thank you for all your informational videos!!!!
Do you have an update?
Thank you so much.
How exciting and welcome to Chiang Mai (in a few months)!!! 🇹🇭🙂
Here is a link to the video where we talked about the travel crate and provided a link in the description to where we purchased it. ruclips.net/video/DNAeOEMF82Y/видео.html.
Also, our vet had given us a copy of the Microchip certificate when we had them microchipped and I had to provide the number that was on their microchips on the paperwork for Thailand. I can't remember if I had to also provide a copy of the paperwork that went along with it. Thanks for watching and safe travels.
@@TheNarrowGate Hi again! We were wondering if you could recommend any decent Dog sitters/boarding. Looking for an outdoor facility for my medium sized dog we are bringing to Chiang Mai next month. Moving to SanSai district and may need to take a trip to Bangkok for a few days after arrival and want to leave our dog in a friendly and free environment. Thank you!
worried about snake encounters too, this can end up bad..
Is it any different for service dogs?
Not sure
What are the laws regarding service dogs? I’m a disabled veteran and want to move to Thailand
Not sure about that one…
Seems like it’s not recognized over there.
Great video Tony!
I was speaking with your lovely wife about this when I met you two with Alice at my now house in Saraphi. She mentioned you guys used Qatar and I meant to ask her how you got them from BKK to CNX. Any info would be appreciated as I’m bringing my 3 over at the end of October
Thanks
Steve
Hi Steve, Kendall here. Hope you are doing well! I bet you are getting super excited about your move in October. We hired a van to take us, the dogs and our luggage from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The price wasn’t cheap…I think it was around $400, but worth it to us because we had a lot of luggage and also the dogs. If you look way back at either our very first or second video that we made it should show us riding in the van to CM and also give a link to the company. They were wonderful!
Take care, thanks for watching and welcome to Thailand!!! 🇹🇭☺️🙏🏻
@@TheNarrowGate , thanks Kendall and I’ll take a look. I can deal with $400 for piece of mind 😀.
I’m super excited to get them over there and I head back myself from Aug 20 to Sept 20 and then one final trip back to Los Angeles to sell my life and bring the pup.
Sadly after I saw you guys and 4 day after returning to LA I had a motorcycle accident spending 11 days in the hospital, 5 or so broken bones in my dominant hand and 2 surgeries. But I feel fortunate that that’s all I suffered, yet laugh a bit thinking of the years riding in Thailand which is listed as the most dangerous country, but it happened here. Needless to say recovery is going well and I’m not letting it derail my plans, although I have switched from looking at scooter to cars now 😊
Thanks again and I hope you guys are doing great and enjoying the new house 😀
Oh no, we are so sorry to hear about your motorcycle accident in the US. How horrible! I don’t blame you for only looking at a car now in Chiang Mai! Safe travels. 🙏🏻
@@TheNarrowGate Hey Kendall, I found the video, and thanks for pointing me to it! I heard Tony mention raw food for your dogs. Mine has been on raw his entire life, and I was freaking out I'd have to change him to dry. Do you still feed yours raw and if so can you point me to where you get it and what brand? I found some on Lazada, but local would be great although Lazada I'm sure is cheaper
Thanks for the video!
Do you have an email or messenger
Want to know where you can walk your dogs
We’re used to going in woods beaches around lakes up mountain
Not walk around the houses on lead
Is this possible
We always walk our dogs on leashes. I wouldn’t suggest letting them walk freely, there are too many Soi (street) dogs here. We are in a neighborhood and walk them around here, it’s a pretty large community and they are small dogs.
There are dog friendly Facebook groups for Chiang Mai and other areas of Thailand. You could join and I’m sure you’d find lots of info about where other folks walk their dogs. 😊🙏🏻🇹🇭
Thank you I have not found the dog friendly on Facebook will try and find it
Can you take your pet breaded dragon with you to Thailand ??
I am not sure. 🤔
You should have introduced your dogs in the video!
there might be a difference, because some countries haven't eradicated some diseases like rabies.
And rabies is a thing in thailand.
I still shake my head when people take their pets with them overseas and act surprised when they encounter issues or additional ongoing expenses. My opinion, is don't take them. There are plenty of needy animals in the destination country. Also provides a better chance to get a pet that is acclimated and will have all the local shots.
Good comment. Who needs more dogs or cars here.
But if you have a loved pet in you home country are you to leave them and then they become a rescue? Agree there are plenty of needy animals but that does not negate the pets you already have. We can always rescue another when we arrive in our new home :)
I take it you don’t have pets. Lol
It seems like you shouldn’t bring your couple here, we have a lot of man/woman here.
Who takes their wives or girlfriends to Thailand...
