I personally like a lot the beautifully done new cutscenes and understand the reasoning behind no longer doing pixel animated cutscenes. However, I think they could have been a bit darker and less "cartoony" in order to perfectly match the tone of the game.
The transition from dark, gritty, pixelated gameplay to bright and flashy anime cutscenes was a bit jarring, especially since I was so fond of the previous game's pixelated cutscenes. I think the Sunny animations would mesh better with the Blasphemous artistic theme if it had a darker palette.
..Apparently potentially a warm take, but tbh I like this games cutscenes even more than the first. I did love those dark, pixely cutscenes of the first , but these rrally were just next-level. I get most of the reasoning for ppl prefering the first games (except stuff like calling it too "light" and/or cartoonish maybe, that range of criticisms does admittedly baffle me), but overall I think this was the perfect aapect to try and go a somewhat different direction for new game without too much deviating from the basic spirit of the world building. Honestly, I think GK nailed it 100%
This is the best source of knowledge about video game creation. I could watch these videos and the documentary a thousand times and still learn new things.
i loved the cutscenes in the first game, and i love the new style for the sequel; it gives the artists a lot of room to communicate detailed designs and backgrounds and have them move really smoothly. i hope they bring back the CRT filters from the first game because i have a feeling they'll look great on the cutscenes
I love the animations in B2 but I still wish they kept them pixel art… the game lost some of its consistency when they took away the cutscenes. Still they look great and Sunshine did an awesome job.
Fuerte Abrazo y a seguirle dando a Blasphemous 2!
You did a good job. It's a decent second act. I'm sure there'll be some DLCs coming our way. If you do a third one with Crisanta, filling the time gap between her laying the Penitent One to rest at the end of the first game and him finding her stabbed with her own sword at the end of the second one and then release it as one giant anthology/trilogy - the three games combined into one huge world with transitions between the chapters to ease the "time passed". We'd replay it like it's a whole new game.
Amazing job from this passionate team! If you have some time in the future, I would love to see an updated version of the artbook to include written descriptions and the references behind each concept in the game, as we had in the first game. Some of those gorgeous images showed in the video I think are also not there. Please don't get me wrong, the artbook of Blasphemous 2 is great even without those things I mentioned.
@@thegamekitchen8429 You did a good job with the time you had. We appreciate it. It's a decent second act. After all It's only been a year. I'm sure there'll be some DLCs coming our way eventually. Saludos.
These developers in this video are not being honest about the cutscene animation thing. They changed cutscene style because the dude that made them decided to leave the company. He didn't only do cutscenes, he also did most of the huge, amazing, grotesque NPC animations in B1. His missing in the development of B2 really shows.
First of all I want to say that I love You The Game Kitchen! It's great sequel that has many inspirational ideas, I' ve played it twice! But I feel like there's not enough grotesqueness in some NPCs and locations. Many bosses have great idea but they are lacking some interesting grotesque details(For example Eviterno. Odon and Afilaor too much remind anime by the way they move and some appearence details that doesn't really fit to the game). I miss some crazy grotesque but pretty aesthetic locations like Jondo or vertical graveyards or dryed sea (Mourning and Havoc). Game's locations need more diversity. So the sequel has lost a bit that grim cold desperative and grotesque beautiness/ romanticness. Many characters like Eviterno or Anunciada appear too rare and I don't feel them as part of the story and most of the quests are lacking of unexpected development. Some of the tracks sound too cute, not enough romatic desperation! Carlos Viola is one of the greatest composers(to me he's like Akira Yamaoka or Metallica but in his style and vision) and these tracks are awesome but in my opinion this game needs darker music. And please change lasers and boss in "Two Moons" , they look too much futuristic! Also I hope you gonna return to old cutscene style. With love and respect to you guys! Gonna buy a second copy for my friend to help you!
Hey Team17, I have a question: I bought the Deluxe Edition on Steam and I was wondering if the digital Artbook of approximately 60 pages is complete, or if will be released a longer and complete version in the future? The Artbook for the first Blasphemous was approximately 160 pages! Thank you in advance for your reply!
There most probably will be. We had a similar thing happen with Elden Ring, where the full artbooks came much later, and were several times bigger than what we initially got
I liked the cutscenes in II. However, the art is so different it’s jarring and removes you from the experience. They’d be better as a separate short film than in the game. While expensive, the pixel art is integral to the visuals of the game IMO. While I enjoyed II, it was overall a blander less flavorful followup IMO. The voices were off, the cutscenes were off, the weapon choices while cool became pointless except for puzzles because the mace worked amazing for 90% of it. The story itself wasn’t as intriguing; and there were loose ends / items that just didn’t tie. Again, I enjoyed it, but as an original KS backer, I is better. II just feels too… commercialized.
Anime cutscenes were my biggest disappointment in the second game. Its the dark pixelart make the game more charming but the bright color anime cutscenes make it more cartoonish.
Just tone down the anime style in the cutscenes for the upcoming content. It doesn't fit and anime is dogshit. Cleaner animation is fine, just make it more like Blasphemous 1.

Blasphemous 2 art book now!
It's actually available now on steam from what I can tell.

Thanks to the studio for the wonderful game! In my opinion, the pixelated cutscenes were much more atmospheric.
Both games are 10/10. Now what we need is a Crisanta-focused DLC :) ... or a Guillermo del Toro-directed film adaptation/TV series.
So cool seeing the greyscale sketches for the levels. I want a game mode that lets you play the whole thing like that! Placeholder assets mode!

Good? Decent? You're selling them short. This game was a marked improvement and a stunning experience beginning to end.
Love these content guys, the game is awesome! Truly a work of art. Good job 👍🏻🫡

cant stop playing this game cant wait on the dlc for my penance is far from over!

Beautiful work 👍🏻
Another video, another like! Waiting for the next 😄

Habrá artbook a la venta de Blasphemous 2??
Ya'll are some disturbed individuals, and I mean that in the best way.
Why didn't they talk at all or explain about the miracle even though it was in the title
The "Sunshine" decision for cutscenes is possibly the only design aspect that I actively disliked in B2
It's a new age, an age where things were getting better and took a dark turn
The atmosphere for 2 was amazing since it wasn't a copy of 1
Physical art book please. xD
GOTY IMO
Jesus is relentlessly handsome.
I want to kiss him relentlessly.
Mi gusta!
I really hate the new cutscenes. They're super generic looking compared to the beautiful dark pixel art cutscenes from the first game.
The pixel cutscene designer left, so they chose this style
A little toned down and less bright version of them would be an improvement

Sorry, but the cutscenes are a huge step back.

I agree 100%. The new cutscenes look horrible and like a cheap fan anime done in flash. It's a major disappointment.
I think they need to be darker, duller and stop-motion type of animation.
