There was war in Vietnam from 1946 till 1975. It ended when the North Vietnamese troops conquered the south. Vietnam got reunified under communist terms. How did the country recovered from these devastating wars? And was war really over?

    Wonderful introduction to "postwar" Vietnam.
Considering how the media played such an important role during American involvement, it would be interesting to ponder: had "postwar" Vietnam and the happenings therein also been portrayed in the same volume as during the time of American involvement - it would be interesting to see the general publics reaction to said happenings.
It would have - particularly in the context of the time, then completely justify American involvement inside of Indochina

Thank for your reply! With the American withdrawal from Vietnam (1973) it also meant the withdrawal of it's journalist. See, the US troops weren't there anymore so I assume the American public interest in the country with also decrease. I would assume "news" from postwar Vietnam would reach communists states like the USSR and Eastern bloc.

And in the end Vietnam would become our friend again even though it was ruled by the side we fought against. Vietnam and America were always destined to be friends, so it's nice to know that that is the truth even in the timeline where the communists won.

Um yeah, no- those 2 million est. "prisoners" were slaughtered wholesale, starved (quickly) worked to literal death in work camps, and/or executed in large sums. Mass graves are still being found. The thing overlooked here it was the result of the US pulling out, mainly to protests by the left. Of course, after the war ended, no one from that camp went to Vietnam or surrounding countries to protest that. They/we forgot about it. Nice for a short vid, and I did not know about the Chi-Comms invasion and retraction. Classic, they figured out they lost after the fact. Governments are idiots.

There was no proof of the north Vietnamese having labor camps. Those camps were concentración camps used by south Vietnam government to enslaved ethnic minorities

They didn’t learn anything either. They did the same damn thing and Afghanistan after seeing Afghanistan beat the Soviet Union a country we would never have fought because they were ridiculously OP. We had to create an entire coalition of countries just to keep them at Bay. These stupid Democrats are doing the same thing again except instead of sacrificing people sacrificing money to Ukraine.

@HistoryHustle Since most of your replies to other "disagree" comments are "OK." I assume you are not open for any serious discussion of any sorts. Please do not waste people time by posting videos on the History you yourself have not conducted adequately detailed research on.
Ps1: Hints for you if you're still reading this comment, try to read about the Khmer Genocide and the act of Vietnam.
Ps2: Help yourself and go to Cambodia, learn about the history and relate that to Vietnamese history.

You don't want to mess with Vietnam, trust me. It is indestructible. It cannot lose. It fought wars nonstop from 1946 until 1991 and won all of them. It was one of the first places COVID ravaged and it survived.

This is a very biased point of view. After the unification of Viet Nam the traitors did go to work at reeducation camps. They had little food and had a hard time of it but everyone in the country had little food along with them. The country was in ruins from American bombing and chemical warfare. It is a miracle what they have done to greatly improve the lives of all Vietnamese. Long live the socialist revolution in Viet Nam.

The country improved when capitalist rules were made to improve the economy.

    • @thomasfx3190

In 1975 the communists got what they wanted and proceeded to starve the population and imprison capitalists from the south and their military leaders. They tortured the people with ideological differences from the south and a million of them were never seen again, just like our prisoners of war that you never returned and worked to death after 1975. In 1996 they wanted our money again and opened their country to investment and allowed western capitalism all over the country. So who won? You people from Hanoi had your victory parade and then quickly figured out that collective agriculture and other communist policies just starved your population. The western world came back and now the economy booms. Did you learn anything?
