I will be mostly using mine in hospital to avoid walking so will give an update on ease of transport in and out of my car. i presently use a Zoom stryder ex but i think they are out of business so I got this one for a back up.

    Really like the Spider! I was about to get one but decided on the Compact instead. I was able to try all the Dualtrons at the retailer near my house. I kept getting flats even with Slime injected (both pinch and road hazard) and was getting tired of walking or ubering my way to the train and then walking or ubering my way to work or home. I was able to easily fix the flats once I got home but being stranded made me rethink my ride. I rode the Raptor 2 and then the Compact and was convinced to go with the Compact. It was great that I had a retailer near my house that had all the Dualtrons and even had other scooters there I could try out like the E-Twow GT and some great Wepeds. It is just much more solid in the 35-40MPH range and the acceleration off the line is hard to beat. I thought I would miss disc brakes but dual drum brakes can lock up the tires easily and I have already had to do some emergency stops. I have enough miles on the Compact now to get used to how it rides at the top end. Keep up the well done videos!

      @@mychaelpierce8049 They don't have the lateral grip of pneumatics but I will take that over dealing with being stranded with a flat. I still hit 40mph on straights and it is very stable. I just slow down on turns quite a bit more when compared to pneumatics.

    I've learned so many things about charging from this video. I'll recommend the 80-20 regime to all my customers to prolong their battery health

    • @electricfuture7456
      @electricfuture7456  4 года назад +4

      It makes such a big difference for the battery lifetime! If you want to be perfect, in addition to 80%-20% cycles normally, it's good to charge to 100% every 20 charges or so, to balance the individual battery cells. After it gets to 100%, I usually go for a quick ride (instead of leaving it at 100%) to minimize the time it spends at full charge. :)

  • @lanceguilin

    Hello friend. nice review. I like your slower, calming voice when you're narrating. ;-)
    2 questions. 1) Is the height of the handle bar fixed or adjustable? 2) Does the right handbrake brake the front or back tires? (for normal bikes, right handbrake usually brake back wheel. is it the same for this Dualtron Spider?
    Thanks!

    • @electricfuture7456
      @electricfuture7456  4 года назад +1

      Hi Lance! 2) The right handbrake is front wheel, like it is on normal motorcycles. Most motorcycles - right lever is front wheel, right foot - rear wheel, left lever - clutch. Since I ride motorcycles as well, it's very important not to break this habit since I switch back and forth between Spider and a motorcycle. (My mental model is not to squeeze right hand too hard). Since there's no right foot pedal, the next best thing is left lever for rear brake instead of clutch. 1) The stock handlebars are fixed. You can maybe adjust them an inch by varying the angle. You can get adjustable ones from Carbonrevo that are pretty nice, and can be foldable, but for an extra cost.

    • @lanceguilin
      @lanceguilin 4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the prompt response ElectricFuture. I've never ridden a motocycle so I was not aware that motorcycles have right handbrake for front wheel. But you would be able to understand my exact concern. My GF now rides a normal foot powered bike to work everyday. I'm considering getting a nicer escooter for us to ride around with on weekends for fun. I am concerned with these escooters having right handbrake for front wheel because she'll have to change 'mental models' constantly between riding her normal bike and using such a escooter with opposite handbraking model. It's nice that it works well for you as you ride motorcycles, but for a normal foot power cyclists, this may not work well. I wonder how difficult would it be for me to change the brake cables between the handbrakes so that it'll work for us. Do you think it's possible to change the brake cables from the two handbrakes? Thanks!

    • @electricfuture7456
      @electricfuture7456  4 года назад +1

      @@lanceguilin It should be pretty easy to change cable routing at the top - if you're a little mechanically inclined, or even bringing to a bicycle shop. You can either swap entire brake levers around without disconnecting the cables (but it'll have to be upsidedown on the other side), or disconnect cables and swap just the cables. Yup - makes sense for bicycles. The current cable routing is pretty neat - imgur.com/a/SDgOR1l - but it probably won't look too bad crossing these cables. Most electric scooters have rear on the left - even my affordable xiaomi m365 (which has a single brake), rear is on the left, and there's nothing on the right.

    • @lanceguilin
      @lanceguilin 4 года назад +1

      Thanks for your input. Yeah, I'm just starting to do my research and it seems left for back is the convention for escooters. That's why I wanted to confirm with you on this. I was hoping the expensive Dualtron would have the brake modeling aligned with regular bikes but I now understand they have it aligned with motorcycles. Makes sense. Thanks again for your input!

    Does the steering column wobble or flex? What's the stopping distance on the brakes? Can you look them up into a skid, or get thrown forward on account of braking to hard?

    • @electricfuture7456
      @electricfuture7456  4 года назад +1

      There isn't too much wobble, however it seems my Xiaomi m365 has even less flex and seems more solid. Maybe that's the price you pay for keeping it lightweight. I tightened all the screws, and while riding, it seems to feel pretty good, I don't feel unsafe or notice it during use. Brakes - they're pretty good, however hydraulics would certainly feel better. I can lock up the wheels just fine. Unlikely to get thrown forward, especially since I start braking with rear brake first, then add the front. I have regen braking set to level 3, and I wish it wouldn't kick in so hard right away (i wish it was gradually apply it, or vary with how much you're braking). But I don't want to lower it below 3, so that my range is good when stopping at red lights. Honestly, I like how the regen braking works on $350 xiaomi that I have better

I ride the Dualtron Spider to work mostly (16miles one way). Xiaomi also makes a perfect “guest” scooter when some of my friends wants to join exploring some area. I’m thinking lately to upgrade it though, to maybe either m365 pro, ninebot max or etwow gt. GT would be amazing, but then again not sure I want to lock up 1k outside. I also ride electric unicycles, for fun, especially on weekends and evenings, and preordered a V8F. I wouldn’t want to commute on it for a long distance though, like on the Spider, but it’s a ton of fun to ride!
